I'm curious how these people are able to find all the music they listen to in order to judge all the albums. Are all of those albums major label releases? I've only heard of 6/50 acts.

I've been curious about how magazines and publications put together their lists. My guess is it's all arbitrary or maybe they all sit around a boardroom table and apply some arbitrary numbers to albums they each reviewed throughout the year and let the resulting math decide. The most I've ever been able to put together in a single year was a Top 40 but for the most part I've always stuck with a yearend top 20 for albums. This year I suspect I'll only get to making a Top 10. soooo full of sh*t. only 1 rap album. Paste is a website (former print magazine) that caters toward fans of folk and Americana music.

it's not a sh*t list just different
also there's two rap albums - two great ones to be exact
blood orange should be higher and Kids See Ghosts should definitely be on there somewhere

My personal "best of" choice for 2018: 1. Not a goddamn thing It's very sad if you didn't like anything from this year. But that's obviously not true. You definitely do like music from this year. There was no reason for you to make that foolish statement. Also why would you be browsing threads about 2018 music if you didn't like anything from the year. Posts like this really annoy me.

Why would that annoy you? Just because you like music released this year doesn't mean he has to. There hasn't been a single album this year that I can say I thoroughly enjoyed. I found myself listening to a lot of early 2000s albums. This year was just straight awful in my opinion.

I can safely say that there has to be something you liked this year.

Iβm sure he was being facetious. Granted, this year would be hard for me to give you a top 20.

^^Wow, only two hits on that list. I do wonder where they even find those artists/songs. Is there like a point of reference for alternative artists, like how the Hot 100 is one for us regarding mainstream hits?

most of these albums are easy to find on the internet, just watch Fantano's reviews or go on rateyourmusic or something

I think Stereogum has my favourite list so far, not really in terms of placement but just looking at what albums they picked

I think Stereogum has my favourite list so far, not really in terms of placement but just looking at what albums they picked I really liked Stereogum as well, and Billboard's Critics' Pick List (above) is pretty darn good too.
