HDD finally released their top 50 most streamed songs of 2018. Finally? 2018 is still going. What happens to streams these past few weeks? Are they grouped into 2019, or do they not count toward any year? They'll probably count for the next year. Spotify and Apple Music released their year-end lists on the 5th of December, even earlier than HDD released theirs. Everyone's year-end lists is out by now. Anything else would have to count for the next year, I'd imagine.

Streaming data from November and December will not be included in the following year's Year-End list.

AIWFCIY will get its biggest week next week. Well, it will only have 5 days of major streaming, so it should be interesting, but I don't think it will be enough. As had happened every year prior, though, its strongest days for streaming are still coming. It will almost double its daily streams between now and Tuesday, more than making up for the lost days. Hell, even with airplay, two of its five strongest days will take place in next week's tracking period. Its airplay will still come below this week's, but streaming and probably sales will be up next week compared to this week.

Maybe Apple Music does the same thing, too.

True...I can see it dropping to #7 and then moving up to #5 or #4 and then falling off.

But to have a peak week as that poster suggested, those high days have to more than make up for the loss of days. I can see it happening with streaming since it's only 2 days of loss, but I don't think the 2 days of high airplay can make up for the loss of 5 days.

Spotify said their tracking period ran for only the first 10 months of the year because they needed time to comiple the data for their year-end lists. I'm guessing that also includes streaming data for every single artist.

For one, you'd think most of it is "computer" generated and takes no time at all. Even if some components are not, they could be working on it throughout the year and just make updates by the time October/November hits. Mostly it's just odd to me to say things are the biggest of the year when a full 2 months aren't included. At least include December from the previous year or something.

I don't know what Spotify does but some REAL year end lists do not come out til the first couple weeks of January, long after people have celebrated the end of the year.
2018 reminiscing happens now, before the year is over

Am i reading this right or will Thank U next be counted for next year? Well, apparently it won't really count period. I mean, if plays from Nov/Dec aren't counted for these year-end lists, it likely isn't going to place high on too many lists next year since its peak months will be left out.

Y'all, it's just the Spotify year end list, it's not like that affects literally anything else. It really is insignificant. Don't have a cow.

^^ True. For 2019 Billboard Hot 100 Year End, TUN will lose its first couple weeks sadly, but the weeks Dec 1 onward will be counted. So it will have the week of the music video is what I'm saying.

I wondered the exact same thing since their systems are really what compute and tabulate such a large array of numbers every single day. The Spotify support account on Twitter said that that's just how they do things, but everyone has their system. Billboard don't account for the full year of activity. Their cut off date is at the end of November.

For Spotify it sounds like the data from November and December is never counted toward any of their year-end charts.

I can virtually guarantee the last week of Nov 2018 will not be included in the 2019 year-end. That week may as well have winked out of existence.
Billboard has a somewhat soft cut-off for the end of the year, but I'd bet any money that "fiscal" 2019 in Billboard will start Dec 1 2018. And, like 2018, it'll probably include only 52 charts, again leaving off the last week still in November.

^The articles that had to do with the 2018 Year-End charts mentioned that the charts covered were until November 17, 2018 one. I don't think Billboard will throw away the November 24, 2018 charts, so that they would count toward the 2019 Year-End.

Nothing about it screamed "hit" when I first heard it, to me it's just another Halsey song. Congrats to her regardless though.
