In part, I think it's another example - alongside Thank U, Next - of very personal, timely, honest, real-to-life lyrics after her break-up with G-Eazy. It's practically in real-time. Audiences are invested in personal lives so much these days, it's a selling point, and quite the built-in hook/marketing tool. 

Aside from that, I personally think it's a good song.  I love the pre-chorus - it's super effective.  And her voice/tone gives it even more of an emotional vibe, rather effortlessly.

TBH she sat on the song for way too long without the music video, and with her current Offset divorce/publicity stunt drama, idk about her general public approval. "Money" gets slightly less airplay than "I Like It" right now, they're at numbers 47 and 48. It might go top ten but it is not getting near #1 at all it seems.

Moments like this makes me happy that Ariana grande made her video really fast while the hype was still there. Cardi b is amazing, but Money has somewhat died down. I feel like with the new billboard rules + streaming, it is much more beneficial to release a single with a video.

That should be the strategy from now on with all artists, regardless if it underperforms or not. It would just seem more prepared with the way things are quickly consumed now.

Wow, I thought the freeze only referred to the week after Christmas when much of radio staffing takes off and they play the year-end countdowns; here they are referring to it as the whole holiday season, pretty much most of November and December, and even into early January! (this does seem to be a Canadian article though, but a lot of it can apply to the US as well). I guess if you're a brand new artist, this wouldn't be the time to release because there's so much competition with all the big hits that were released earlier starting to boom and reach their peak, and radio programmers are busy scheduling and devoting airtime to Christmas music, but I think if you're already an established artist the cutoff would be early to mid-November and you could release a single and still have a reasonable chance or it enjoying success, of course depending on the song and artist and if the label would be willing to take that risk. Of course this was the case with Thank U Next, which blew up right from the beginning (and she was already competing with herself with a couple other songs out already).
