Ok, predictions made. The obvious ones were obvious. The not obvious ones are... well, still kind of obvious. It's the wildcards I have zero idea on this year so I kept things relatively safe. Album of the Year Ariana Grande – thank u, next Billie Eilish – when we all fall asleep, where do we go? Chance the Rapper – The Big Day Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper – A Star Is Born Lana Del Rey – Norman Fucking Rockwell Lizzo – Cuz I Love You Maren Morris – Girl Taylor Swift – Lover Record of the Year Ariana Grande – 7 Rings Billie Eilish – bad guy Lady Gaga – Always Remember Us This Way Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus – Old Town Road Lizzo – Truth Hurts Post Malone & Swae Lee – Sunflower Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello – Señorita Taylor Swift – You Need To Calm Down Song of the Year Ariana Grande – thank u, next (songwriters: Ariana Grande, Victoria Monét, Tayla Parx, Njomza Vitia, Kimberly Krysiuk, Tommy Brown, Michael Foster, Charles Anderson) Lady Gaga – Always Remember Us This Way (songwriters: Lady Gaga, Natalie Hemby, Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna) Lewis Capaldi – Someone You Loved (songwriters: Lewis Capaldi, Samuel Romans, Thomas Barnes, Peter Kelleher, Benjamin Kohn) Lizzo – Truth Hurts (songwriters: Melissa Jefferson, Eric Frederic, Jesse Saint John, Steven Cheung, Mina Lioness) Maren Morris – Girl (songwriters: busbee, Maren Morris, Greg Kurstin) Post Malone & Swae Lee – Sunflower (songwriters: Austin Post, Khalif Brown, Scott Lang, Billy Walsh, Louis Bell) Sam Smilth & Normani – Dancing With A Stranger (songwriters: Sam Smith, Jimmy Napes, Mikkel S. Here are my predictions! I tried adding some wildcards, but I know ill be surprised no matter what.
ALBUM OF THE YEAR • thank u, next - Ariana Grande • When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? - Billie Eilish • El Mal Querer - ROSALÍA • A Star Is Born - Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper • Heard It In A Past Life - Maggie Rogers • Cuz I Love You - Lizzo • Honey - Robyn • Homecoming - Beyoncé
RECORD OF THE YEAR • bad guy - Billie Eilish • Truth Hurts - Lizzo • 7 rings - Ariana Grande • Old Town Road (Remix) - Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus • Without Me - Halsey • Sunflower - Post Malone & Swae Lee • Someone You Loved - Lewis Capaldi • Señorita - Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello
SONG OF THE YEAR • Truth Hurts - Lizzo • bad guy - Billie Eilish • thank u, next - Ariana Grande • Sunflower - Post Malone & Swae Lee • Without Me - Halsey • Light On - Maggie Rogers • Speechless - Dan + Shay • Someone You Loved - Lewis Capaldi
BEST NEW ARTIST • Billie Eilish • ROSALÍA • Lizzo • Maggie Rogers • Lauv • Lil Nas X • Lewis Capaldi • Juice WRLD
NOTE: I just changed Yola to Juice WRLD. Realizing he wasn’t nominated for anything last year totally means he could get a nom this year. Hoping I’ll see Yola tho 😭

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=318834&title=GRAMMY-SHOWDOWNSGRAMMY SHOWDOWNSWhat will the matchup card look like going into music’s biggest night? Billie vs. LizzoAfter having breakthrough years that propelled them to superstardom, Billie Eilish and Lizzo are expected to go head to head in Best New Artist, Song and Record of the Year and Album of the Year. The first half of the year belonged to Eilish, whose debut LP exceeded every expectation, as she opened with the second-biggest bow of the year at the time. The teen phenom’s ascension made her a household name, and “bad guy” became her first bona fide smash single. Will an AMAs performance—her first awards-show gig—along with the release of a new single shift the momentum back in Billie’s favor? Lizzo has been riding a hot hand since summer, as “Truth Hurts” hit #1 at Pop radio and topped the Hot 100 for seven non-consecutive weeks. As “Truth Hurts” begins to fade, recycled single “Good as Hell” is now climbing the charts. Billie and Lizzo both have enough acclaim and numbers to lead the field in nominations. Will either one sweep? In the Best New Artist category, who is the favorite? And from there, will voters lean toward “bad guy” or “Truth Hurts” in Record and Song? Beyoncé vs. TaylorOn the other end of the spectrum are proven icons Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. While neither are a lock for SOTY or ROTY, their star power holds plenty of weight, which could lead to nominations in any category they’ve submitted in. Also, the Secret Nominating Committee and Grammy voters could feel like they have a lot of making up to do with these two icons. In 2017, Beyoncé earned nine nominations but won only two, losing in Album, Record and Song. Swift’s reputation earned just one nomination in 2019, for Best Pop Vocal Album. Next-gen vs. veteran starsHow will newcomers like Billie, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Lewis Capaldi and Maggie Rogers fare against seasoned stars like Taylor, Beyoncé, Ariana, Lady Gaga, Jonas Brothers and Lana Del Rey? Will the SNC embrace the of-the-moment stars who kickstarted their stardom in 2019, or will they opt for the familiar faces?

WAIT A SECOND... Ok, did the Grammys messed up royally with their website leaking the amount of nominations acts are getting this year?? When you go to Lizzo's page it says she's got 8 nominations ( )... on Billie's page it says she's got 6 ( )... Maggie Rogers has 1... Ariana has 11 nominations total (when in reality she only has 6 as of the last ceremony)... Lana has 6 total nominations (instead of 4) I mean all this years contenders have more nominations than they actually do, which may be because they have added their nominations for this year to their totals ahead of tomorrow's reveal on the website

They are probably updating the website and they forgot to hide this. Either way, ROSALÍA is expected to receive two nominations this year, being one of them Best New Artist.

Apparently Lizzo (8), Billie (6) and Lil Nas X (6) are the ones with the most nominations.

So, apparently Jack Antonoff got 2 noms... considering he's probably nominated for Producer of the Year, I wonder which of his albums got into Album of the Year: Lover or Norman Fucking Rockwell ... I'm betting on Lana considering she got 2 noms and I can't really see her getting anywhere but Pop Album and AotY

They locked them again. I didn’t get to see if Gaga has an increase from her 24 noms haha
Never mind, I see above she was listed for 3. I wonder which ones?

Bradley only had 1 new nomination this year on the website, so they probably missed either Soundtrack or Album of the Year
Of course, judging this is true

If true, It’s more likely they’d get Soundtrack nomination over Album, rather than the other way around, and Gaga’s other two noms would be Pop Performance and if there’s a submission for song from a soundtrack, perhaps? I would be a little surprised to not see any mention of her in the big four though tbh

i got a good feeling Lizzo will bet Billie Eilish for Best New Artist and then the curse will happen and Lizzo will have a significantly less successful next era.

So, Good As Hell (2016 song) and Truth Hurts (2017) will probably be nominated at the 2020 Grammys. Great.

I'm guessing Beyoncé will have Best Song Written for Visual Media, Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, Best Music Film, a genre nod for HOMECOMING and maybe AOTY for HOMECOMING? Definitely didn't expect her to snatch 5 noms. Ariana Grande is likely getting AOTY, ROTY, SOTY, Pop Vocal Album and Pop Solo. I don't expect music video or Pop Duo/Group here. Billie should be up against Ariana in all of those 5 categories, plus BNA. And my girl Lizzo is not playing! YES! i got a good feeling Lizzo will bet Billie Eilish for Best New Artist and then the curse will happen and Lizzo will have a significantly less successful next era. I think Dua Lipa is currently shattering that phenomenon. We'll see how the remainder of her new era turns out but I think the curse may have been lifted! skskssk

WILL THE SECRET COMMITTEE HELP BRING STAR POWER TO THE GRAMMYS? It’s not the first time we’ve asked this question, but it bears repeating: Given the way new artists are dominating the marketplace at present, will the Grammy Secret Nominating Committee furnish enough top-tier noms to established superstars to ensure said artists will perform on Music’s Biggest Night, upping the likelihood of strong ratings? We’re talking about stars like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran, several of whom have been seriously (and even serially) snubbed in the past. The word is that this is very much on the radar of the Recording Academy’s forward-looking new leadership. Noms come out Wednesday. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=318813&title=WILL-THE-SECRET-COMMITTEE-HELP-BRING-STAR-POWER-TO-THE-GRAMMYS%3F If the leaked nominations are real, not quite what is happening.

Regardless I don’t think 1 year is enough to say if Dua Lipa has been an overall success or not. If she doesn’t have another hit from this point forward people will say she falls under some type of “curse.” North Jones has a successful follow-up album in terms of sales, but in general hasn’t made a mark since her win.

IF those leaks are accurate, how did Lil Nas X get 6 nods? ROTY, SOTY, some type of duo award, and...? Best New Artist would get him to 4. Maybe a genre Song nod, not sure where the song went. That would still leave 1 more. Video?

The Grammys love Chance but that album was horrendous.

I don’t want to rain on any parades here, but I will say that often times, companies will test out websites by putting up fake copy into their systems to ensure the information projects to the public-facing site properly. This could be one of those situations. But I will say that this likely bodes well for each of those nominees, in that this basically guarantees they are receiving nominations this year.
(Or this could also simply be a glitch and TRA f**ked up, lol. But also, remember that this happened last year, with ~leaks~ appearing 24-48 hours beforehand from the website that were quickly taken down, and they turned out to be fake.)

Haven’t heard Dua on the radio since New Rules Yes New Rules was the #1 song on the radio with a record number of weeks in the top ten. Hard to top. Adele has yet to top Rolling in the Deep or Someone Like You. So what? "Don't Start Now" is off to a great start, debuted at #30 on Hot 100 last week and tumbled only to #46 this week, with good streaming numbers and strong radio support. It's almost Top 20 on pop (#21) and it reached Top 40 on Hot AC, and is currently at #69 on general airplay with 24M+ AI. Besides, "IDGAF" (#12) and "One Kiss" (#9) were both pop radio hits. Heck, "Swan Song" also reached #21. First of all, how is there a BNA curse when you have former winners like The Beatles, Mariah, Adele, Maroon 5, and Carrie Underwood? Regardless I don’t think 1 year is enough to say if Dua Lipa has been an overall success or not. If she doesn’t have another hit from this point forward people will say she falls under some type of “curse.” North Jones has a successful follow-up album in terms of sales, but in general hasn’t made a mark since her win. In comparison with the likes of Alessia Cara, Meghan Trainor, fun or Macklemore, whose careers saw a significant downwards trend in the year immediately following their BNA wins, Dua's overall approval has seemingly improved. Even artists like Sam Smith and Chance the Rapper had less success/impact following their wins, but I believe that's just the nature of this award. You win it because you made a splash, and it's hard to top a breakthrough year. People will argue and say Adele's career has also gone downhill because "Hello" was the sole top 5 single on 25. It's just fun observing a pattern, as humans are programmed to do so, but we should be careful when we're underestimating people. John Legend won this in 2006 but didn't get his Top 10 hits until 2014 and 2015. Sometimes you just can't predict things. Saying Lizzo will win this and then flop is just plain stupid.

I feel like these numbers look a little too realistic to be just a test -- and the fact that they won't let us access the artist pages now only makes it more sus. Like they could have given my good sis Maggie 12 noms and BTS 14 noms because that just is not happening, you know?

We are literally less than one (1) year out from her win. Let’s wait before we call it. One new single with a promising start doesn’t debunk the concept that the myth may still rear its head for her. (That being said, I don’t want it to, because “Don’t Start Now” is a jam.)

Also just remembered that Adele won BNA after 19, not 21, so she is the prime example of the myth not always becoming reality lmao. Maybe it just doesn't affect British solo women? (And Hello is below RITD and SLY on the decade-end list but it probably was bigger on radio if I recall correctly.)

BNA is not a curse, it's just not a guarantee of success. You have a 50/50 chance of successfully following it up just like anyone else with a good debut era.
