lol, JUNE!?! everybody knows these songs, can't imagine it would take long to rank them...but i suppose i will just procrastinate for awhile since i've got all of this extra time of course, maybe May is busy for Unhinged, if so, that would make sense for the delay |

Giving myself a break before we get to this. Plus in May I'll be busy opening and swimming in my pool.  |

That said I'm considering approaching the reveals for this a bit different than in the past. I've done my usual write-ups for most of these songs (I didn't do 1984 though) so I might skip them since I wouldn't have much to add. I might also not do the usual 10 reveals a day but rather stagger them so the reveal lasts a bit longer. See what happens I guess.

I'm very happy with this list, but I'm still pissed Come On Eileen only got #14 in its RD. At least it means TEOTH got through?
Edit: And I'm Coming Out at #11? So many overrated songs in 1981's top 10.

Curious how you all completed this. These were the top placements of the annual RDs, but comparing songs from different eras can be challenging. You might say that some late 80s hits simply evolved from songs earlier in the decade. Without 'Don't You Want Me', could there have been 'West End Girls'? Artist catalogues also evolved through the decade (not necessarily for better or worse). Hall & Oates, Madonna and MiJac's entries are so diverse. It makes sense to rank based on the song's individual merit, but just looking for any useful input. Attachment Deleted |

I pretty much have an all-time favorite song from the 80’s so that was an easy #1 and thanks to my older brother I heard most of these songs growing up so it made it quite easy to do. I enjoy all of the songs except for my bottom 5. |

i am as shocked as anyone that i've placed MJ, Prince & Madonna in my bottom half a total of EIGHTEEN times in this rankdown...i like all 3 of these artists VERY much but there are just so many A+ songs that the A- songs have to take a backseat

I've been going back and forth with my list and I'm still not satisfied. Ugh I don't even dislike my #100 wow.
My bottom 19 are basically the songs that I thought weren't top 10 worthy in their respective years, or those I probably won't come back to, or those i thought were a litle overrated. The rest of the songs i actually like.

Finally got around to finishing my ranking. I was interested in what years I liked most based on their top 10s so I figured out my average rank for each year. Ironically, my 2 favorite years are the ones that I did not participate in (mostly because I wasn't paying attention). I probably was kinder to the songs in those years though not having ranked the songs previously.
1980: 58.5
1981: 67.6 (worst)
1982: 48.6
1983: 44.4
1984: 37.5 (best)
1985: 38.6
1986: 57.9
1987: 53.8
1988: 52.3
1989: 45.8
I also figured out my average rank based upon where the songs finished in the year-end rankdowns. Nothing too surprising here. I did end up ranking songs that finished at #9 higher than expected whereas songs that ended up at #6 did worse than expected.
#1: 19.6 (best)
#2: 34.1
#3: 48.1
#4: 53.8
#5: 53.9
#6: 59.4
#7: 54.9
#8: 61.3
#9: 53.5

This is hard; I'm having to be a bit more brutal than I usually am.
My bottom 20 are all songs I never got the love for or just frankly never want to hear again. My Top 22 are all classics IMO.
