Thank you to all those who submitted!
I got 20 submissions this weekend bringing the total to 41 including myself which is by far the most for any 80’s rankdown.
Gonna start working on the lists tomorrow and my plan is to start the reveal by Wednesday, Thursday at the lastest!
Its gonna be fun folks! Some interesting results already!

Finally got around to finishing my ranking. I was interested in what years I liked most based on their top 10s so I figured out my average rank for each year. Ironically, my 2 favorite years are the ones that I did not participate in (mostly because I wasn't paying attention). I probably was kinder to the songs in those years though not having ranked the songs previously. 1980: 58.5 1981: 67.6 (worst) 1982: 48.6 1983: 44.4 1984: 37.5 (best) 1985: 38.6 1986: 57.9 1987: 53.8 1988: 52.3 1989: 45.8 I also figured out my average rank based upon where the songs finished in the year-end rankdowns. Nothing too surprising here. I did end up ranking songs that finished at #9 higher than expected whereas songs that ended up at #6 did worse than expected. #1: 19.6 (best) #2: 34.1 #3: 48.1 #4: 53.8 #5: 53.9 #6: 59.4 #7: 54.9 #8: 61.3 #9: 53.5 #10: 66.4 (worst) 1980: 45.3 1981: 52.2 1982: 53.4 1983: 27.0 1984: 46.8 1985: 38.1 1986: 72.6 1987: 50.3 1988: 58.2 1989: 56.2 #1: 36.4 #2: 34.7 #3: 45.8 #4: 53.4 #5: 48.9 #6: 50.8 #7: 57.0 #8: 65.5 #9: 51.4 #10: 56.2 |

That would be redundant IMO. It would serve as simply another kick in the can for those songs that some might feel deserved a higher rank in the annual RDs. You've already put a lot of work into this and this list reflects the collective taste of the participants (good or bad). It is what it is.
Hopefully, everyone who participated in the annual RDs will submit for this one. It will be interesting to see if the ranking of songs in any given year will be significantly different from your annual results.
It's not redundant if I can get to put "Shake It Up" at #1.
but seriously it wouldn't be useless at all. Most of the list would be songs that are not by the big 5 icons of 1980's and could prove to be an interesting RD. That's my thoughts.

With all due respect, this is my point exactly. It's like a race where the favourite horse finishes outside of the Top 3, and then setting up a separate race afterwards only for those who finished in 4th through 10th place (and excluding the Top 3!  ) just to appease those who lost their bets.

Most top 40 entries will probably be a toss up between Michael, Prince, and Madonna. I could not tell you at all what will be top or bottom 5.

I think a more fitting group of questions is...
1) Do you think you will lose a Top 10 in the Bottom 10?
(I honestly think so)
2) How many of your Bottom 10 do you think you will get called out on?
(3 guaranteed)
And 3) Of your Top 10, which one do you expect biting the dust first?
(Probably my 1 or my 9, easily. I will be SHOOK if anyone put my #1 as their 1 as well)

Tag me in the results. I had a busy weekend so I couldn't finish this.
My 1 would have been Everybody Wants To Rule The World. My 2 would have been I Just Died In Your Arms. My 3 would have been Africa.
Other songs I would have had very high would include The Promise, Take On Me, I Ran, Drive, Fast Car, Total Eclipse Of The Heart.
I would have had all of MJs songs and most of Princes songs in the top half, but I don't think they would have been in my top 10.
My 100 would have been Funkytown. I find that song so annoying.
Other songs in my bottom 5 would have included, Venus, Conga, and Brass In Pocket.
A few songs that are likely going to be top 10 in this Rankdown, Call Me and Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This would have been in my bottom 10 or bottom 20 most likely.
Most of Madonnas songs probably wouldn't have room for me to be in the top half.
As for the song that could be 100, I think it could be Urgent from Foreigner. I don't think that one could get too many high rankings.
I do feel like the 1 could be Everybody Wants To Rule The World, but it isn't certain, it could be any of like 20 songs.
I'll leave comments on and off during the reveals.

Not coincidentally, they correspond to the two years with my worst averages: Alone from 1987 and Sweet Child O' Mine from 1988. They would've made my decade top half for sure. I also have 20 Top 5s missing. Among them, a few I would've likely ranked in the decade top half: Magic, Vacation, Don't Stop Believin', The Tide Is High, Stand Back, Summer of 69, Like A Virgin, Livin’ on a Prayer. In terms of this RD... it brought back memories of how freaking hard was to elaborate my personal decade ranking for the 1980s back in 1990. Painful! 50-60 of the songs in this list were in my personal ranking of the 80s. About a dozen weren't but I've grown to one them more with time, so they are pretty solid. I can say that a quarter of songs here would've definitely not made my decade RD now... Interestingly, too, my top 20 is quite diverse. There are 17 different artists there, with 3 of them placing 2 songs. Also interestingly, half of my bottom 10 songs are by artists with multiple songs in this RD. I love them, but they also have some songs that were clearly in my bottom. In terms of the questions: 1. What songs do you expect to see in the top 5? I think we'll have RD #1s here. I'd go for Another One Bites The Dust, When Doves Cry, Billie Jean, Like A Prayer, Call Me. 2. What songs do you expect to see in the bottom 5? Geez. This'll be hard. Conga? She Drives Me Crazy? I've noticed a lot of songs tend to get tanked on these rds for being too shouty, anthemy, busy sounding, fast, overplayed, catchy, and my favorite -cheesy lyrics, or at least what others consider cheesy. Ironically all the reasons I tend to upgrade songs. In the end the songs that end up high are usually songs I put in 45-60 range. I charted 84 of these songs, so I might just make it out of that last place in PULSE RD closeness this time? Maybe?

I've been furiously working on the lists the last two days but gotta say it's looking more likely to be a Thursday start to the reveal folks.
