I read the RS review and they stay always doing the most. Comparisons to Prince, Cohen, Carole King? Really? Is the Italian RS different or were you not referring to Rolling Stone because I just went to the review and saw none of that.

Alternative fact: when she sings "we're so sad we paint the town blue" in "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince" she's referring to the night of 2016 elections That’s actually what this line is about. And the whole song as well. Oh is this one supposed to be the "political" song? I assumed people thought Dixie Chicks was the political element on the album. I need to listen to the lyrics a bit more carefully I guess

I’ve been trying to piece together Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince too — another line that seems political is how she says “I guess boys will be boys then / Where are the wise men?” referring to sexual assault and it being affirmed.
It FEELS like after the election she ran away London, especially amidst an atmosphere where she was dealing with higher ups who were Trump supporters.
Or conversely, Joe came to comfort her in the aftermath and they had a fight.
This could also absolutely be referring to the time she decided to come out and support Democrats in the 2018 election.
Actually — what did the secret sessioners say about it? Maybe I’m totally wrong!

Maybe it'll grow on me but I'm not feeling "It's Nice to Have a Friend" AT ALL........ I'm enjoying every other song.

With the astonishing amount of information we have so far, including one! whole! song!, I think she could really close with a song a la “New Romantics”. And while I would love that, I would also love a happy ballad as the closer, the kind that shows emotional growth and closure. This is a nice step towards my theory of a “female empowerment”/self empowerment song instead of one that’s exclusively about a love interest, past or present. I’d love for this album to be a bit nostalgic and have a few songs about growing up, friends & family and some pro-movement anthems (feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, anti-racism). I don’t know if this is wishful thinking or an actual prediction but I think this is going to be the weakest song on the album and the only one of its kind. While it might be a hint for the album’s sound, I consider it to be a wildcard song, a fit for pretty much every album. Also, I think the album is actually going to be strong, a positive comeback for her perception and critical reception. And mature. We really need that and I’m pretty positive. My guess is that “ME!” is going to be one of the first four tracks of the album, probably #2 or #3 and then the album will go on to touch other themes with a more mature & grown up point of view. Not bad for a guy with no talent.

It's Nice To Have A Friend offers a nice change of pace on the album. I can understand not loving it but I don't really get the hate for it. Every song doesn't need the same tempo and level of intensity.

Friend will never be a standout or go-to but is no longer a skip. The song-song cadence is cute.

Every song doesn't need the same tempo and level of intensity. It definitely feels like a slightly longer and beautifully crafted interlude to me and I live for it It is BY FAR the most intriguing song on the album that otherwise doesn't have many new avenues for Taylor to explore

"It's Nice To Have A Friend" is one of the most interesting tracks in her catalog. I find it so captivating and peculiar in a good way. Not a favorite but not a skip either.

Every time I see someone comparing Lover (the song) to Perfect, I'm triggered.

Shameless plug, two playlists I made using songs from 'Lover' in case you wanna check out these concepts:
1. How 'Lover' would've been if I had made it.
2. How 'Lover' would be if it was '1989'. I picked the tracks comparing the lyrical themes and sonic directions of the songs.

Ok everyone on here is suddenly appreciating I think he knows for the tune it actually is. Also, the part in Afterglow where she sings quickly reminds me of another song but I don’t know what it is. Does anyone know what I could be thinking of?
