Which female singer's debut album is the best? Is it Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears or someone else?

I'll go with Whiney Houston's self titled debut album which featured good songs such as, You give good love, Saving all my love, How will I know, and The greatest love of all. All at once is also a well known song from this album and it wasnt even a single.

Whitney's debut had great singles, but it wasn't a great album.

Whitney's debut had great singles, but it wasn't a great album. A #3 single, 3 #1 singles and album sales of 13 million, cant do much better than that for a debut album.

So, you use the stats of the singles to counter my point that the singles are the only good songs on the album? Also, if you want to go the singles stats route, Mariah's debut had 4 #1 singles. Regardless, what makes it a better album for me is that non-singles like "Vanishing" and "Alone In Love" are stellar.

If Lauryn Hill counts, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is the easy winner here for me.
Other faves: Mariah Carey - Mariah Carey Relish - Joan Osborne Toni Braxton Toni Braxton Tidal - Fiona Apple

Let Go for sure. Other mentions include KT Tunstall and Amy Macdonald. Many of my favs that I jumped on with their debut albums I remain fond of those albums.
I will add though as much as I enjoy Jewel, I never did get how Pieces of You became so well respected. I love folk music and I love that albumβs singles but other than a few other album tracks, I find it such a snooze. She has at least 4 albums that are as a whole superior. Possibly an unpopular opinion though.

A solo debut counts as "debut," right?

Possibly an unpopular opinion though. I find Pieces of You to just be incredibly raw, honest, and haunting. The style in which it was recorded is so organic and vulnerable, and she really bridges the emotion and vocals beautifully here giving some very vivid imagery.

Avril- Nothing she's done comes close. Julie Roberts- Her music after the first album was a huge letdown
