When I refer to song of the summer, I don’t necessarily mean Billboard’s end-if-summer list, but a song you’ll be hearing throughout the summer everywhere you go. Which I understand is a slippery road around here because it’s based less on stats and more on personal experience. So I’ll just say im expecting it to be everywhere for awhile into the summer months.

This is completely opinion-based of course, but I've listened to OTR several times now and it will be very hard for me to ever get to liking this song, I really hope it's not #1 for 10+ weeks (the remix with BRC is even worse, not sure why it's selling double the original). To me it's just this cheesy, monotonous hip-hop parody of a country song. Airplay, while climbing steadily, is still very low and not exploding or anything (these novelty meme songs almost never get huge airplay), so without that it will be a tall order for it to be #1 for 10+ weeks. The streaming and/or sales will have to continue to be HUGE for a long time to overcome that. I don't predict that will happen, hopefully it will only have a Panda or Bad and Boujee-type run. I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about here. This song has gotten 1.5-2 million new AI impressions EVERYDAY throughout the last 2 weeks alone. This will do well at radio. Yes, I admitted that airplay is rising steadily. But up to 1.5 million impressions a day (I haven't seen it hit 2 yet), is not explosive, and I don't really see it getting huge at its peak, like 100 million AI or anything. I could be wrong though, just my prediction.

Interesting to watch this week: Looking at my radio estimates, if every song has the same increase/decrease percentage for this tracking week, Please me is going #1 with 85-86M. r u sure about that ? pop is slowing please me down... jonas brothers seems more likely ?

All the songs I listed were based on my personal opinion which I guess also match Billboard. But I get it. Drake for example might not have felt big for some people.

It's close (2M audience between #1 and #3) but Please Me is slightly above 7 rings and Sucker if every song has the same +/- percentage next week. Also, Nielsen's panel is more urban/rhythmic driven than Mediabase where Top 40 is like 3x bigger than any other format.

Are we forgetting how little longevity meme songs usually have already? When IMF blew up last year and was breaking records, some swore up and down that it'd challenge despacito but we know what happened. I'm thinking 4 or 5 weeks max before the novelty wears off In My Feelings spent a very respectable 10 weeks at number one, was the third best selling song of the year and was nine on the year end chart yeah it didn't challenge despacito at all which was my point

What was the last country song to hit #1?? Carrie Underwood? Yes. "Inside Your Heaven", her AI coronation single peaked at #1 for a week in June 2005; she hasn't performed it since the 00's however. Prior to that it was Lonestar's "Amazed" which peaked at #1 in 2000. Almost every big crossover "Country" hit we've the past 18 years has peaked at #2 on the Hot 100. ● Breathe: Faith Hill - #2 ● You Belong With Me: Taylor Swift - #2 ● Need You Know: Lady Antebellum - #2 Then of course there's Underwood's "Before He Cheats" which was absolutely massive and that peaked in the top 10; Florida Georgia Lines "Cruise" peaked in the top 10 in 2013 and is certified Diamond, as well as "Body Like a Back Road" peaking in the top 10 in 2017 which was huge too. Also, considering Rexha's "Meant To Be" dominated the Country charts at its peak, while peaking at #2 on the Hot 100, I suppose we'll call that a 'Country hit' also.

For those who consider 'Meant to Be' country (I know that song is polarizing in that regard, though), that also peaked at #2.

Y’all don’t forget about the new Blackpink song. It just broke Ariana’s YouTube record How much of their views are coming from the US? Their sales are dying even faster than I expected (#91 on iTunes already) and streaming elsewhere isn't stupendous. #34 on Spotify and #380 on the non-combined Apple Music chart.

Hmm, interesting prediction. I guess because Sunflower will drop off on pop radio, Please Me will start rapidly gaining more spins on Pop? I don't think it can really challenge OTR if we're going to be honest though.

I doubt many people that listen to that format likes the song.

If the same thing happens next week, Please Me will be #1 on the Radio Songs chart and that's surprising. If PM gains less than 8% and Sucker has a 20%+ gain then the latter is #1. If 7 rings is stable next week, then it'll have a second week atop the radio chart.

Please Me is days away from tumbling down in pop airplay. It's already in decline there and lost half a million AI today on that format. Given its "low" peak and young age, it's likely to just start tanking as it begins its decent there. The urban and rhythmic support should keep it from totally crashing on overall AI, though.

It's a little surprising to me that Please Me wasn't bigger, Cardi is such a huge presence right now and Bruno is one of the biggest hit-makers of the decade, and Finesse did pretty well last year too but this seems like such a non-event

On-demand: 65-75m (spotify average 4-4.5m a day, so a little above 30m this week, and based on last week's data, spotify only accounts for about 40% of its on-demand) Youtube: 50-60m (7+m daily) That's enough to break IMF's record.
