If I wanted a 'Landslide' cover I'd go for the Dixie Chicks version. :sip2:

This cover makes me understand the perspective of people who hate Corgan's voice too much to like the Pumpkins

just like "more human than human", #26 features 3 top tens, 22 top half rankings, and one bottom ten. this was top 20 for a few lists early, and was nearly there for a few more in the middle. this fell out of the top 30 near the end, though it recovered a bit even later.

Edwyn Collins sounds like someone doing a Ringo Starr impression...so basically Wakko Warner.

Surprised that I was the highest ranked for White Zombie

40. Stutter - ElasticaReally cool to see this song make the top 40. Very Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. I guess this is a safe place for its landing. 39. The Heart's Filthy Lesson - David Bowie Dreadful song for David Bowie. It felt like a NIN song and not a very good one either. 38. Piggy - Nine Inch NailsI'm not a fan of this band, but I've never felt the desire to tank their songs, but damn this time they were just horrid. There is a reason these last two songs were the bottom of the tank on the actual YE chart as well. Now can we get rid of that other NIN travesty? 37. Strange Currencies - R.E.M.
My least favorite of the R.E.M songs appearing on this RD. It's not awful just not very exciting at all. 36. Ode to My Family - The CranberriesAnother safe landing for this band. I'll be honest. My favorite parts are the "doodoo doo doo's", but it also has a very appealing melody. The #5 ranking from Daryl the Beryl is the biggest surprise. Wonder if its his favorite Cranberries song? 35. Love Spreads - The Stone RosesThis was alright for the guitars. Not much else happening with this song. 34. Gotta Get Away - The OffspringThis band was less ridiculous when they first started. Not that I don't like their ridiculous stuff too, but I really dug this first album. The first two singles were the best. 33. Connection - ElasticaThis is more my type of Alt rock. A lot of garage Rock vibes here, but not afraid to add some synths. What ever happened to this band? Did they change their band name and become EDM? 32. Halah - Mazzy StarI remember always switching the radio knob when this would come on. It was boring as sin. and its still not my lowest Female sung tanker. 31. Unglued - Stone Temple Pilotsand again STP miss out on the top 30 with a fierce rocker. I always thought #78 was super lame for that a banger of a song. At least #31 makes more sense. This brings up my hopes super high for "Sex Type Thing". This song just misses my top 10. That's how strong my top 10 was. 30. She - Green DayGreat. The Poppunk fathers come through. Too bad this song never got a music video. I love when bands do the "object of desire" videos. Usually means we get hot, unattainable babes in the starring role. 29. Carnival - Natalie MerchantThis one was pretty decent I guess. Her vocals and guitars make for a nice combo. I was never a big 10,000 Maniacs fan either. 28. Landslide - Smashing PumpkinsThis particular Pumpkins' song never really clicked with me. I still give it a thumbs up tho. 27. More Human Than Human - White ZombieI knew this one would be a bit polarizing. I'm still a bigger fan of his movies and Sheri Moon Zombie, but this is a great rocker I can always get behind of. 26. A Girl Like You - Edwyn CollinsI really upgraded this one on this list. It sounded so much better to me now than it ever did back then. Go figure?

EXTRA:Negasonic Teenage Warhead - Monster MagnetHOt Damn! This feels like a song I should like? Oh yeah. I'm definitely upgrading this one in the next Active RD. Little Bastard - Ass PonysWhen both the band name and Song title suck what else should I expect for the song. Sounds like a band that would try to impersonate Blues Traveler just to get into the charts. Whip-Smart - Liz PhairThe sound here sounds like shit, but the song is pretty decent. I always thought Liz was super hot. She also made a cover of one of my favorite New Wave jams of all time. Cover Me - CandleboxThis band is about as exciting as a box of candles. Uninvited - Ruth RuthNot a bad jam. I love loud music, but that was pretty distorted. Kinda hard to enjoy that way. Scum - Meat PuppetsDidn't recall this one, but I loved that intro. Vocals are pretty boring, but this is more like Grunge with a boost. NIce song. The Day I Tried to Live - SoundgardenEh... call me back when we rank "Spoonman" and "Outshined" Morning Glory - OasisThis is my favorite Oasis song. probably would have put it in my top 10? only six weeks? What a jip. I think it went top 10 in Canada? Hold On - Sarah McLachlanSarah was hit or miss for me. I didn't recall this ever on the radio. I never cared for that weird "temple" vibe or whatever it was called. I Saw the Light - The TheHere is the band Butterflies & Hurricanes would most likely just refer to as "The". Anyway, this one sounds really cool.

My internet has decided to not work at night lately, so I missed the last couple of reveals. "Landslide" and "More Human Than Human" went further than I thought they would, given that I knew the former would have tankers and the latter...well, the latter is Rob Zombie. That gives me hope for Active, anyway. "She" going out was more surprising than either of those other two reveals. As for "Carnival"...the longer that song lasted, the more I knew my ranking would be controversial. (Thank god I wasn't lowest, though. Shielded. ) Here's the thing: I have never remotely cared for Natalie Merchant as a solo artist. I've never been hugely into 10,000 Maniacs, either, but moreso than Merchant by herself. The funny thing, though, is that I was not rooting against it. I was kind of amused because of how long it was lasting. I'm down to three songs below my top 35, though I have no real issue with any of them still being here. One bottom half remains...though good luck getting that out before the top ten. 38. Piggy - Nine Inch NailsI'm not a fan of this band, but I've never felt the desire to tank their songsSo, apparently, you forgot about "We're In This Together"? I'm just going to ignore the last part of that comment. I'm going to pretend I didn't see that.

based on this conversation, i expect "Hurt" to just miss #1 and have to settle for #2 as a result of Doc's apparently placing it at #100 (what tf's up w/ that doc?)
