i guess she's going for full on camp this era, which is fun i suppose. me! burned on me pretty quickly and i'm a little meh on this (the ooh ooh part is somehow even more grating than the one in me!) but still looking forward for the album nonetheless

I'm very sick of this gimmick, the whole music video filled with celebrity cameos trend that's been happening the past 4 something years now. This isn't the first time Taylor has done one of these before, but at least Bad Blood was much more visually stimulating. This is kind of boring, guess it pairs well with the song. Just like Girls Like You.
The only parts I enjoyed was the drag queens dressed as the pop stars and Taylor and Katy making up.

This video was WILD. Loved every second of it, but there was so much to take in. I missed Lambert and Rippon's cameos completely on first viewing. Will have to go check again.

Anything wouldβve been better than ME! in my opinion, but I am so glaad that she released this song! It really is nice to sing a big fuck you to all the homophobes during pride month. I personally donβt mind the lyrics, yes, they are slightly white cishet first time in the club, but it has some charm and it means well. I really like a lot of the lines and it does the job for a pop single.
Idk why youβre all worried about her delivering good songwriting on Lover as if sheβs delivered us a bad album before. Iβm sure sheβll have many deep cuts on this album, but I havenβt really been particularly impressed with her writing on pop singles before. (Yes, she has some great pop singles, but the majority of them arenβt standouts from a songwriting perspective.)
The music video was cute and camp and everything I wanted. A lot of quick shots so itβs great for rewatchability. I had to go back and watch the queen scene all over again just to see who everyone was!

Video is cute. Everything I would have expected from 2019 Taylor/any young pop star in 2019, but pandering or not, it was fun and exciting to see so many queers there. Def helped to bury that hook in my brain too.
Still, these two singles are incredibly lightweight, especially lyrically.

The view counter currently says 11 million views in 11 hours. Also, the extended version in the video is much, much better than the original. It makes it feel less like it goes nowhere and more complete

My thoughts!  And the Navy is probably the least toxic fanbase too. Which is kind of what the lyrics try to address. I guess Adele's fanbase ain't really toxic but she's the biggest selling act so she had to be there. The Beyhive and the Barbz are pretty toxic, on the other hand. Remember when every single Becky with the good hair candidate got dragged on social media and flooded with bee emojis? Yeah plus the Beehive HATES Taylor for some reason, so it's cool to see her include their idol. |
