“Beautiful Goodbye” was released as the first single from Jennifer Hanson’s self-titled debut album. While this became Jennifer’s only Top 20 solo country hit she did have plenty of success as a songwriter as she co-wrote such hits as “Leave the Pieces” by The Wreckers, “A Different World” by Bucky Covington”, and “Let Me Down Easy” by Billy Currington. She also co-wrote “Country Strong” which was performed by Gwyneth Paltrow for the movie of the same name. I remember this being one of the songs in the 2003 YE Country Rankdown that exceeded my expectations as it just missed the top 30 there so I was interested to see how well it would do amongst other female country hits. While this wasn’t always a top 30 contender it held its own thanks to two top 10’s from ClevelandRox and gardyfan , three top 15’s, and a handful of top 25’s and top 30’s. Troublemaker and taylor is terrified were the only two holdouts as they placed this in their bottom 5.

These reveals are starting to HURT! Love CDJ! So sad to see her out this soon. I was actually sad to see that she was a Background singer for Miranda a few years ago. She has so much talent!

I've been putting off the next reveal all evening but alas I guess the time has come. For a few of us this will be the most disappointing loss thus far (including for myself) and as for the other two...

“Don’t Forget to Remember Me” was the second release to country radio from Carrie’s debut album, Some Hearts, where it peaked just shy of the top spot on the country charts. Previously, this has been featured in the 2006 YE Rankdown where it came in at #25 and also finished at #20 in her singles rankdown hosted by .indulgecountry back in 2017. This is the most disappointing reveal thus far for myself as I have to depart with my first top 5 loss alongside .indulgecountry and also Cody Wants Out... who placed this just shy of that in his top 10. This has always had its fair share of detractors so it probably doesn’t come as a surprise to some to see this leave already. To no one’s surprise, though, LBTrocks placed this in his bottom 5 and ClevelandRox put this dead last which when his list was received gave this a devastating blow that made it hard to recover from. It was slowly able to rebound, however, thanks to those that put this in their top 15 and top 25. While I was not participating yet in rankdowns back in early 2017 (I think my first one was for Tim McGraw), I likely would’ve placed this in my top 2 in Carrie’s singles rankdown just behind “Wasted”. It’s a song that I’ve always connected with as it takes me back to the moment in time when I left home for Texas all the while looking back at my mom crying from the rearview mirror of my Chevy truck. Things were never quite the same after that and what I wouldn’t give to go back to that moment and give her one last hug goodbye. Many of Carrie’s biggest hits from this time have already been covered in numerous rankdowns and truth be told this was probably one of the first songs I had picked out for this series.

Okay, I guess we're at that point in the rankdown, huh? That HURT. To be honest, this song was always one of my least favorite singles (second only to LN, which I still can't stand). However, as my senior year of high school began to end and I graduated this June and began readying to leave for college, this song started speaking more and more to me, and it's quickly become higher up on the singles list. That line "don't forget to remember me..." CHILLS. Makes me cry now every time. However... LBTrocks ClevelandRox at you tanking this so badly

"Don't Forget to Remember Me" remains one of Carrie Underwood's very best songs. Absolutely gorgeous melody and production job on that one. It's a great lyric too and she sings the fire out of it.

I find "Don't Forget To Remember Me" to be boring, bland, and uninspired. I won't deny she gave a great vocal but this is Carrie we're talking about, she always does. I'll never enjoy the song tho. I actually didn't become a Carrie fan until "Before He Cheats" was a single.

Well Enchanted is technically from the next decade. I wonder which Taylor Swift song from the 00s would've had the best shot in this RD. I think You Belong With Me works great as a pop song, but that might not be such an advantage in this RD. Maybe Should've Said No? It's my favorite song from her debut album and one of her more country leaning songs. It does seem like I'm not the only one that likes it since I've seen it challenge Teardrops and Our Song in many fan rankings despite those being bigger hits. Lol “You Belong With Me” is very much a country song! Us tractors definitely claim it! The only reason it might not be a great choice for a Rankdown like this is because it has been so overplayed that some people can barely listen to it anymore... Taylor was always at a disadvantage in this Rankdown though for that very reason. The only songs that really qualify for this decade are the ones from her first couple of albums, which were all a relatively similar amount of overplayed. Not to mention that her shaky unseasoned early vocals are especially noticeable alongside all the people like Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Jo Dee Messina, Reba McEntire, Sara Evans, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, etc. who are consistently praised for being among the greatest vocalists in the history of country music. The point is, I feel like Taylor would have had an uphill battle no matter which song was picked. Personally I think “Fearless” was the perfect choice, because it was not as overplayed as her earlier hits, and was also one of her more solid early-career vocal efforts. Fair point about the vocals, I think the vocals on Should've Said No could be better, indeed I prefer how her vocals sounded on her 2009-2010 Fearless Tour performances of the song than on the 2006 studio version. I suppose almost all of her singles during those years got significant airplay on country radio, Fearless was main biggest exception, despite being one of her best songs from those two albums, so it's a good choice in that sense. "Forever & Always" is quite popular too, and it's the only album track that's frequently able to beat "White Horse" and "Fifteen" on rankdown/rates, but I still prefer "Fearless" a bit more. Lol “You Belong With Me” is very much a country song! Us tractors definitely claim it! The only reason it might not be a great choice for a Rankdown like this is because it has been so overplayed that some people can barely listen to it anymore... Personally I think “Fearless” was the perfect choice, because it was not as overplayed as her earlier hits, and was also one of her more solid early-career vocal efforts. Thanks for pointing that out nickd as I had completely overlooked "Enchanted" being from the Speak Now era which began in 2010. I was trying to find an album track that had performed well in one of her earlier album rankdowns and remembered that song as being a top favorite so hence the reason for it's inclusion in the encore section. As bboat11 pointed out, though, no matter which song was selected she'd still have an uphill battle as her songs continue to be quite polarizing overall. I looked back at the YE Rankdowns for 2007, 2008, and 2009 and her highest ranking songs were "Our Song" at #24 and "Tim McGraw" at #25 (2007 YE Rankdown) as well as "You Belong With Me" at #31 (2009 YE Rankdown). Her average, though, for all nine songs in those YE Rankdowns was 43! And she actually had the same average in bboat11 's inaugural Best of the Best Country Rankdown Winners where she had five songs included with the highest ranking one being "All Too Well" at #33. "Fearless" was at the top of my list for songs that I wanted to include for this rankdown and I thought it fit in perfectly with the overarching "This One's for the Girls" theme that I was aiming for in my song selection. I've just begun my search of songs for the next series and so far I still have no idea what to select for Taylor as I'll be choosing from either the Speak Now or [ Red eras...maybe I'll just go with "Safe & Sound" lol! Breathe and You're Not Sorry are relatively popular album tracks from the first two albums, but they've got nothing on the spunk of Forever & Always which almost always outranks them. As for her Speak Now/Red songs, looking at singles first... "Sparks Fly" is very well loved by fans, and despite hitting #1 on country radio I feel like it kind of got lost among all her other hits (unfortunately) so I don't know if it counts as overplayed. I guess "Back To December" and "Mean" count as overplayed? "Back To December" seems to be the favorite among the GP/casual fans, and "Mean" was her 2010s country song that won the most awards. "Red" is also very well loved by fans. On country radio, it was the lowest peaking of her country singles from this period, and yet it has outstreamed all of those higher peaking singles on Spotify. I like "Begin Again" a lot too, despite peaking at #3 on country radio, it still feels under-rated. "Safe & Sound" did not chart on country radio, I guess mainstream country radio found it too folksy? Or did it just not get sent to country radio? I think it's one of those songs that hardly anyone dislikes, but I'm not sure if that many people would place it among the top spots on their lists either. I'm not sure if you're considering album tracks, but these two albums are probably the ones where her album tracks shine strongest. Some of these are rather pop/rock leaning, but the fan favorites seem to be Enchanted, Long Live, Last Kiss, Dear John, Haunted, State of Grace, All Too Well, Holy Ground and Treacherous.

Sara Johns has some powerful vocals. Loved her jam at #38. Probably be a top 10 on my list. "Beautiful Goodbye" ~ Jennifer Hanson gave me Sheryl Crow vibes. Great F U C K ing melody.
ok after 3 repeat listens I've come to the conclusion that "Beautiful Goodbye" would have been my #1 song.

30. Simple Life - I love this song and it's half-yodeling. I didn't think a new discovery would end up being my #1, but with every listen, it just grew on me more and more. Such a fun song.

Now I can watch this reveals with no fear of my #1 being eliminated next Flies on the Butter is one of my all time favourite songs and I’m really happy that it was a part of this rankdown. I didn’t expect it to do much because it was never a big hit and Wynonna never do good in rankdowns but I still hoped that it would at least make it into top half. I’ve loved this song ever since I first heard it a couple of years ago. Wynonna’s voice is simply perfect - it’s rich and powerful but also really tender and the way she sings (with emphasis on the right words and with that nostalgic half-laugh after “ And I’m still haunted by the taste of the kiss i was too scared to give him”) - it really makes me miss the good old days. And then there are Naomi’s harmonies, which make the previously perfect song even better. Lyrics are also gorgeous - there are just the right amount of details in verses to paint the picture of how good and uncomplicated were things back at home but then chorus immediately follow revealing the bitter truth and main theme - You can dream about it every now and then, But you can't go home again.

Speaking of Taylor Swift songs to be featured in these kinds of rankdown, I think White Horses might be a good choice because it shows a different side of her songwriting. Also vocals are not everything so I don't understand the sudden drag of her vocals in this thread.
I don't like the theme of When You Lie Next to Me at all. Vocals are pretty unspectacular too.
Had a feeling Flies On the Butter (You Can't Go Home Again) would be gone too because ballads and themes, but the melody is good for these kinds of song.

True, vocals are not everything, but they are definitely not nothing either... All I'm saying is that it just doesn't do somebody any favors when they sound weak and pitchy when they're surrounded by a group of professionals. Like, yeah, some people may not care, but some people are bound to notice the contrast.

“Streets of Heaven” was released as the first single and title track to Sherrié Austin’s fourth studio album. Co-written by Sherrié, it became her first top 20 single in 2003. I hadn’t realized that this was a favorite of many and in that respect I’d say it exceeded my expectations as I wouldn’t have guessed that this would be a top 30 contender. Thanks to the early support this received it briefly flirted with the top 20 but began to settle back some as it received some lower-end rankings in the top 50 including a lone bottom 5 from nickd . And unfortunately after most recently loosing her top ranked song BackwoodsBarbie loses a top 5.

The song to miss the top 25 may come as a bit of surprise to some (including myself). A fifth participant will have to say goodbye to their top ranked song while an all-too-familiar name shows up yet again in the bottom 5 (and a last place ranking at that!).

“I’m a Survivor” was released as the lead single to Reba’s third compilation album Greatest Hits Volume III were it peaked in the top 5 in 2001. An altered version of the song was also used as the theme song for her Reba sitcom on The WB. This is yet another heartbreaking loss for yours truly as I have to say goodbye to my second top 5 while toomuchboy becomes our fifth participant to lose their top ranking song. Thanks to the early support this received from myself, someguy , and bboat11 it hovered within the top 20 but began to slowly fall back from a handful of top 50 rankings including a lone last place from none other than LBTrocks . In the end this wasn’t able to survive such a hit and ended up falling just outside of the top 25. This isn’t the last we’ll see of our 80’s Ladies of Country Queen, however, as she is still in competition with the Kelly Clarkson duet “Because of You”.
