Sheryl Crow American musician, singer-songwriter and actress Sheryl Crow is the next artist to be featured who has long incorporated elements of pop, rock, country, and blues into her music. She first garnered international success in the mid 90's with her debut self-titled album that incorporated such hits as "If It Makes You Happy", "Everyday Is a Winding Road", and "A Change Would Do You Good". She has since gone on to sell over 50 million albums worldwide. In 2002, Kid Rock and Sheryl teamed up to duet for the song "Picture" which would go on to peak just outside the top 20 on the country charts and was nominated for Vocal Event of The Year at the 2003 Country Music Association awards.
Selected for the rankdown is Sheryl's cover of "The First Cut Is the Deepest" which was released on her greatest hits album and became a top 40 hit on country radio in late 2003.

Gretchen Wilson Gretchen Wilson was propelled into country music stardom when in 2004 her debut single "Redneck Woman" reached the top of the country charts and became the first number one country song by a female artist in over two years. Her debut album Here for the Party spawned three additional hit singles and with the initial success she would go on to be nominated for four Grammy Awards including Best New Artist, Best Country Album, Best Country Song for "Redneck Woman"" and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Redneck Woman" of which she would win. Her sophomore album All Jacked Up would follow in late 2005 and peaked at No. 1 on both the Top 200 and Country Albums charts and sold over 1 million copies. The title track debuted at No. 21 on the Hot Country Chart which at the time set a record for the highest debut ever made by a female artist. At the Country Music Association Awards in 2005 she would go on to win the Female Vocalist of the Year award.

Julie Roberts Julie Roberts debuted on the country music scene in 2004 with her self-titled debut album released on Mercury Nashville. The album would eventually be certified gold and spawned three singles including the top 50 songs "Wake Up Older" and "The Chance". Julie released her second album Men & Mascara in 2006 and produced two singles including the title track and "Girl Next Door".
Featured for the rankdown is Julie's debut single "Break Down Here" which was a top 20 hit.

Rachel Proctor Rachel Proctor is our next artist to be featured and first gained recognition in 2002 when Martina McBride released "Where Would You Be" which was co-written by Rachel. She was soon signed to BNA Records and released her debut single "Days Like This" in 2003. Her debut album Where I Belong would follow in 2004 and charted four singles on the country charts. She would go on to release two independent albums including 2007's Only Lonely Girl and 2009's What Didn't Kill Me. In 2008 Jessica Simpson scored a top 20 hit with a song Rachel co-wrote with Victoria Banks called "Come On Over".
Selected for the rankdown is Rachel's highest charting country song "Me and Emily".

Carolyn Dawn Johnson Carolyn Dawn Johnson is a Canadian country music singer-songwriter who first got her big breakthrough when a song she co-wrote called "Single White Female" was released by Chely Wright and became a number one hit in 1999. She would score another hit as a songwriter with Jo Dee Messina's "Downtime" becoming a top 5 hit. Carolyn's success led to a record deal with Arista Nashville and began working with producer Paul Worley for her debut album Room with a View which was released in late summer 2001. The album would be certified gold and produced four hit singles including the top ten hits "Complicated" and "I Don't Want You to Go". With her early success she would go on to win the ACM's Top New Female Vocalist award as well as numerous CCMA Awards. Carolyn released her second album Dress Rehearsal in 2004 of which she helped co-produce and wrote or co-wrote 11 of the 12 songs. Her third album Love & Negotiation was released in Canada in 2006 and would later be digitally released in the United States in 2009.

Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland Singer-songwriter Jennifer Nettles is our next artist to be featured as she made her debut as the lead vocalist for the country group Sugarland. Their first album Twice the Speed of Life was released in late 2004 and has since gone on to be certified triple platinum. It spawned four hit singles including "Something More" and "Just Might (Make Me Believe)". In 2006 Jennifer teamed up with Jon Bon Jovi for the No. 1 song "Who Says You Can't Go Home" which would go on to win the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals in 2007. With the departure of Kristen Bell, Sugarland officially became a duo and released their second album Enjoy the Ride in late 2006. The album would also be certified triple platinum and contained their number one hit "Want To" followed by another number one hit for "Settlin'" which was one of the most played songs on country radio in 2007. The albums final single "Stay" was written solely by Jennifer and would go on to win Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Country Song at the 51st Grammy Awards as well as Song of the Year honors at the CMA Awards in 2008. Sugarland led with their next single "All I Want to Do" from their third album Love on the Inside in spring 2008 of which it would go on to become their third No. 1 single. The duo would close out the decade picking up their third consecutive Vocal Duo of the Year honors from the CMA Awards in 2009.
I thought it only fitting to include the song "Baby Girl" for this rankdown which was their debut hit single from 2004.

The Judds Making their return for a third time is a duo that needs no introduction. The Judds reunited to help ring in the new millennium on December 31, 1999 which was released as a two-disc set called Judds Reunion: Live. They would then head out on tour together in 2000 on the Power to Change Tour. The Judds would again reunite for a performance in 2008 at the Stagecoach Music Festival in California as well as two shows in Canada, including one at the world-famous Calgary Stampede and another at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival in Merritt, British Columbia.
Selected for the rankdown is their duet "Flies on the Butter (You Can't Go Home Again)" which was featured on Wynonna's 2003 album What the World Needs Now Is Love.

Jessi Alexander Jessi Alexander debuted in 2005 with her first album Honeysuckle Sweet on Columbia Records. While she didn't see much success as a solo artist she has since gone on to become a successful songwriter penning such songs as "The Climb" for Miley Cyrus, Blake Shelton's "Drink On It", "Mine Would Be You", and "Turnin' Me On", and multiple songs for Ashley Monroe including "If Love Was Fair", "If The Devil Don't Want Me", and "I'm Good at Leavin". Jessi would Song of the Year honors for "I Drive Your Truck" at both the Country Music Association Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Highlighted from Jessi's personal discography is her debut single "Honeysuckle Sweet".

Terri Clark After just missing making the top 10 in the 90's Women of Country, Terri Clark makes her a return yet again for this rankdown. Terri released her fourth studio album Fearless in 2000 and contained the hit singles "A Little Gasoline" and "No Fear" which she co-wrote with Mary Chapin Carpenter. Her fifth album Pain to Kill would come in early 2003 and featured the number 2 peaking single "I Just Wanna Be Mad". Clark would eventually be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2004 and shortly thereafter issued her first greatest hits compilation which contained her number one hit "Girls Lie Too". Life Goes On would be Terri's sixth and final studio album for Mercury Records in 2005. She would soon sign with BNA Records and while no album followed she did release two singles including "Dirty Girl" and "In My Next LIfe". Terri's final album of the decade was The Long Way Home which featured four singles including "Gypsy Boots".
Featured for the rankdown is the poignant "She Didn't Have Time" which was a top 25 hit in 2006.

Jamie O'Neal Australian country singer Jamie O'Neal is our next artist to be featured and made her debut in 2000 with her first studio album Shiver. Five singles were released from the gold certified album including the number one hits "There Is No Arizona" and "When I Think About Angels". She would score another hit in 2002 when her and Mark Wills teamed up for their duet "I'm Not Gonna Do Anything Without You". Jamie moved over to Captiol Nashville and in in early 2005 released her second studio album Brave and charted three top 30 singles including "Trying to Find Atlantis". O'neal then signed with a new record label and while "Like A Woman" was supposed to be the lead-single for her third album but the album would not materialize.
Showcased from Jamie's catalog is the top 3 hit "Somebody's Hero".

Jo Dee Messina Jo Dee Messina came into the new millennium still riding the wave of success she had from her second studio album I'm Alright. She released her third Burn in later summer 2000 and it contained five hit singles including her Tim McGraw duet "Bring on the Rain" which became her fifth number one country single. Later that same year Jo Dee would go on to win the Horizon Award from the Country Music Association. Her first greatest hits compilation was released in 2003 and included four new tracks of which "Was That My Life" and "I Wish" were released as singles. Jo Dee's next studio album Delicious Surprise was released in 2005 and it's lead-single "My Give a Damn's Busted" would go on to spend two weeks at the top of the country charts and was one of the most played songs that year. With the anticipation of releasing another studio album Curb Records serviced the singles "Biker Chick" and "I'm Done" to country radio but the album would be delayed until 2010.
Selected for Jo Dee Messina is "That's the Way" which spent four weeks at the top of the country charts in 2000.

LeAnn Rimes The new millennium saw LeAnn Rimes crossover to pop music and released the song "I Need You" which would go on to become a top 10 country hit and peak at #11 on the pop charts. Rimes also contributed four songs to the Coyote Ugly soundtrack with both "Can't Fight the Moonlight" and "But I Do Love You" becoming crossover pop hits. Her fifth studio album Twisted Angel was released in 2002 and contained the singles "Life Goes On" and "Suddenly". LeAnn marked her return to country music with the release of her seventh studio album This Woman. The album became her best-selling album in over five years and sold over 100,000 copies in its first week of release. She also made her return to the top ten of the country charts with three of the singles including ""Nothin' 'Bout Love Makes Sense" and "Probably Wouldn't Be This Way" all becoming top five hits. She ventured back to her earlier pop and r&b influences with her eight studio album Whatever We Wanna being released in in summer 2006 but was mainly promoted internationally. LeAnn released Family in 2007 and it would be her final album of the decade. The album's lead single "Nothin' Better to Do" was a top 15 hit and was her fourteenth Top 20 hit on the country charts.
Highlighted from LeAnn's discography is "Something's Gotta Give" which peaked at #2 in mid-2006.

Danielle Peck Danielle Peck debuted on the country music scene in 2005 with her first single "I Don't" becoming a top 30 country hit. Her self-titled debut album soon followed on Big Machine Records of which she charted three songs on the country charts. Peck released her fourth single in early 2007 titled "Bad For Me" and it was intended to be the lead-off to an upcoming second album, however the album was delayed after the song failed to reach the top 40. Her second and final album Can't Behave would eventually be digitally released in late 2008 and when the single failed to chart she parted ways with her record label.
Featured for the rankdown is Danielle's top 20 hit "Findin' a Good Man".

Shelly Fairchild Shelly Fairchild signed to Columbia Records in 2004 and released her debut album Ride in 2005. Of the three singles released only one charted while the other two "Tiny Town" and "Kiss Me" failed to chart. While she was dropped from her record label she would go on to co-write a song from Little Big Town's album The Road to Here called "Looking for a Reason". She teamed up for Martina's Everlasting tour as a background singer and has also provided background vocals for a wide range of country artists and songs including "Creppin" by Eric Church, Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down", and multiple songs for the Randy Rogers Band including "Kiss Me in the Dark". Shelly most recently independently released the album Buffalo and married music executive Deborah DeLoach.
Selected for the rankdown is Shelly's top 40 hit "You Don't Lie Here Anymore".

Dixie Chicks The Dixie Chicks rode into the new millennium with the hit single "Cowboy Take Me Away" from their studio album Fly that was released in mid-1999. Eight singles would be released from the album including "Goodbye Earl" and the album has since received diamond status for selling over 10 million copies. The album earned four Grammy nominations in 2000 and won for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for "Ready to Run" and Best Country Album. At the CMA Awards in 2000 they would go on to win Entertainer of the Year as well as their third consecutive win for Vocal Group of the Year along with Album of the Year honors for Fly. Their next studio album Home was released in late summer 2002 with it's first two singles "Long Time Gone" and "Landslide" peaking at #2 while the third single "Travelin' Soldier" became their sixth and final number one country song. Following the fall out from comments made by Natalie Maines about the invasion of the Iraq war while performing in Europe the Dixie Chicks took a break from recording new music. In early 2006 they would return with the single "Not Ready to Make Nice" which directly addressed the political controversy that had surrounded the group for the previous three years. Their next album Taking the Long Way would go on to be both commercially and critically successful. At the Grammy Awards in 2007 they would win give Grammy's including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
For the rankdown I have selected the song "The Long Way Around" which was selected by Rolling Stone as one of the top 20 songs of 2006.

Trisha Yearwood Trisha Yearwood released her seventh studio album Real Live Woman in early 2000 and was met with high critical acclaim. The title track would peak just outside the top 15 on the country charts followed by the top 50 hit "Where Are You Now". Her eighth studio album Inside Out was released the following summer and included the top 5 hit "I Would've Loved You Anyway". The album also contained a cover of "I Don't Paint Myself Into Corners" which was co-written by Rebecca Lynn Howard who was featured earlier in the rankdown showcase. After taking a couple years off she released Jasper County in 2005. The album spawned the hit single "Georgia Rain" and became her final album for MCA Nashville. After signing with Big Machine Records, Trisha released her eleventh studio album Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love in late 2007 which was again met with critical acclaim. In 2008 she released her very first cookbook co-written with her mother Gwen and sister Beth entitled Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen.
Highlighted for Trisha is the title track to her last album of the decade "Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love" which was a top 20 hit in 2007.

Miranda Lambert Texas country girl Miranda Lambert made her debut on the talent competition Nashville Star in 2003 where she came in third place behind Buddy Jewell. In September of that year she signed with Epic Records and released her debut single "Me and Charlie Talking" in the summer of 2004. Her first album, Kerosene, debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums charts and has since been certified platinum. Her second album, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was released in mid-2007 and was met with critical acclaim. The album spawned the hit singles "Famous In a Small Town" and "Gunpowder & Lead" which became her first Top 10 hit on the country charts. Her early success earned her Top New Female Vocalist honors at the 2007 ACM Awards and she hit the road opening for the likes of George Strait and Keith Urban. Her third and final album of the decade, Revolution, was released in 2009 and received significant critical praise on its release. While the lead-single "Dead Flowers" was only a top 40 hit, the second single "White Liar" would become her first Top Five hit at country radio peaking at #2. "The House That Built Me" was released as the third single in early 2010 and it would become her very first Number One on the country charts where it stayed there for four weeks. The song would go on to earn Miranda a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2011 as well as Album of the Year honors at both the ACM and CMA Awards. "Heart Like Mine" was the final single from the album and became her second number one hit.

Kellie Pickler Kellie Pickler made her debut in 2005 at the age of 19 on American Idol where she finished in sixth place. In 2006, she signed to 19 Recordings/BNA Records as a recording artist and her debut album, Small Town Girl, was released later that year and has sold over 900,000 copies. The album produced three singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts including top the top 15 hit "I Wonder" and "Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind" which peaked inside the top 20. She released her self-titled second album in 2008 with the first single "Don't You Know You're Beautiful" becoming a Top 25 hit. She released "Best Days of Your Life" as the second single which was co-written by another female artist who will be featured later in the rankdown! The song went on to become her first Top 10 hit at country radio and the single has been certified platinum.

Elizabeth Cook Elizabeth Cook made her debut on Atlantic Records in 2000 and during this time became a regular guest artist on the Grade Ole Opry. Her first major-label studio album, Hey, Y'all would eventually be released in mid-2002 but through Warner Bros. since her previous record label had shuttered its offices. Elizabeth took some time off and during that time recorded what would eventually be her second major-label album This Side Of The Moon which was released in May, 2005. Rodney Crowell would produce her third major-label album Balls which was released via Emergent Records.
Selected for the rankdown is the song "Sometimes It Takes Balls to Be a Woman" which was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2007 Americana Music Awards.

There are so, so many good songs here and even most of the ones I don’t LOVE, I LOVE the artist who sings it.
There is an easy #40 and an easy #1 for me but the rest could go any way (so far).
