Sunflower just pushed past I Don't Care on Spotify, up to #9. And with Ed's other two songs falling I bet it could push back up to #7. This is gonna be the song to reach 35 weeks in the Top 10. It's just an absolute monster. Spotify: 35 weeks in the top 10 *it's by far the all-time record (XO TOUR Llif3 and Royals stopped at 30 weeks) YouTube: #3 with 1.2M streams Amazon: #2

When is the last time a film adaptation of a musical had Taylor Swift (or another huge A-list pop star) performing in it? I thought of one: Madonna in Evita. That spawned 2 top 20 hits for her on the Hot 100, nearly 15 years into her career. I'm not saying I think this will be debut at #1 or even be big, and I know times have changed, but it is entirely possible. Technically we've already had one this year with Lady Gaga in A Star Is Born (although Shallow was only from the movie). But now this begs the question, when was the last year with 3 number one songs from movie soundtracks? If this TS single can do it we'd have it, Shallow, and Sunflower.

Recently 2015 was a big year for soundtrack hits. See You Again from Furious 7 and the Fifty Shades of Grey tracks. All of which finished in the Top 13 at the end of the year. As for years with 3 number-one singles from soundtracks, the last time I can think of is 1998 - Truly Madly Deeply from "Music from Another Room," My Heart Will Go On from "Titanic," and Don't Wanna Miss A Thing from "Armageddon." 1995 saw 4 soundtrack songs reach #1 - Gangsta's Paradise from "Dangerous Minds," Kiss From A Rose from "Batman Forever," Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman? from "Don Juan DeMarco" and Exhale (Shoop Shoop) from "Waiting To Exhale."

I don't see any reason to think a new Taylor song from Cats would shoot to #1. If it was the first new song from her in awhile, maybe, but at this point, nope.

Add 2000: Aaliyah ‘Try Again,’ Janet ‘Doesn’t Really Matter’ and Beyoncé + her backup singers ;) ‘Independent Women, Pt 1.’ Destiny’s Child was getting hot, but IW, P1 just sent them into stratosphere.

A View To Kill) That year, you also had Television theme tunes hitting #1. 1) Miami Vice Theme: Jon Hammer (Miami Vice) ___ •1984• 1) Footloose: Kenny Loggins (Footloose) 2) Let’s Hear It For The Boy: Deniece Williams (Footloose) 3) When Doves Cry: Prince (Purple Rain) 4) Against All Odds: Phil Collins (Against All Odds) 5) Ghostbusters: Ray Parker Jr. (Ghostbusters) 6) I Just Called To Say I Love You: Stevie Wonder (Woman in Red) 7) Let’s Go Crazy: Prince (Purple Rain)

1) Crazy For You - Madonna (Vision Quest) 2) Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds (Breakfast Club) 3) Heaven - Bryan Adams (A Night in Heaven) 4) A View to a Kill - Duran Duran (A View to a Kill) 5) The Power of Love - Huey Lewis and the News (Back to the Future) 6) St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion) - John Parr (St. Elmo's Fire) 7) Separate Lives - Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin (White Nights) 8) Say You, Say Me - Lionel Richie (White Nights)
Plus as you mentioned Miami Vice Theme - Jan Hammer

Sounds like Billboard's next move should be to put a cap on how many remixes are permissible to count. :sip2:

There could be 100 remixes. If people buy into them. Why not?

There’s only three official remixes for OTR right? As far as I’m concerned Billy Ray offered his services not the other way around. Diplo is uhhh...Diplo. And the most recent remix was a creative decision made by the songs producer who felt Young Thug would be a good fit for the song, not sure why Mason was added. I mean I get his background but...yeah.
Don’t get why there’s hate in anyway shape or form towards the main artist involved with the song and/or towards the song itself.

Yes, but the remixes have obviously been shamelessly timed. And Nas has been shameless in soliciting more remixes. I don't begrudge him trying to ride the "OTR" train as long as he can seeing as it could be his only big hit, but you should also be able to understand why there would be 'hate' towards someone being so shameless in trying to maintain a hit. Anyone who does this stuff gets criticism (see Taylor Swift and all of the tricks to help "Me!").

I think it’s pretty unfair to compare someone who’s completely new to the industry vs an established artist who’s been in the business for over a decade. It’s the dudes debut single, I’m pretty sure the song blowing up the way that it did was the last thing he thought was going to happen. why not try to keep the momentum going as long as he can. On another note; I thought ME! was just a song that got blocked from the top and just flopped down the chart.

How are the OTR featured artist remixes and release significantly different than, say Perfect?
Perfect was released to radio in Sept 17, Duet, which was recorded in May, was held until Dec 1, which ended up pushing it to #1. Two weeks later (Dec 15), Symphony was released.
If people are consuming/buying those versions, then mission accomplished. Isn’t that really the point of ranking the most popular songs?

The difference here is that all of the remixes came about after the song was already #1. You could overlook the BRC mix because that was likely already in the pipeline before getting to #1, but everything since has been completely unnecessary. If the only way to maintain the spot was to keep up the blatantly manipulative tactics (which anyone else would - and has been - dragged to hell and back for) then maybe just maybe this is not a song that should've gotten anywhere near a record-breaker.
Couldn't do it on its own merits, so he had to 'cheat'? Lol bye.
