And who's really the joke here? Nas, or all the people consuming his terrible songs? If he wasn't experiencing this kind of success, I think some of these harsh opinions of him would be much more lighthearted and supportive. it's like he's being punished now for going several steps too far. Lol. I just can't. He's a 19 year old man who's trying to break the all-time record. People here act like he should be quiet and praying that Billie/JB remix isn't strong enough to dethrone OTR. ...and the Diplo remix excuse is hilarious because with or without that remix he'd have been #1 that week.

The difference here is that all of the remixes came about after the song was already #1. You could overlook the BRC mix because that was likely already in the pipeline before getting to #1, but everything since has been completely unnecessary. If the only way to maintain the spot was to keep up the blatantly manipulative tactics (which anyone else would - and has been - dragged to hell and back for) then maybe just maybe this is not a song that should've gotten anywhere near a record-breaker. Couldn't do it on its own merits, so he had to 'cheat'? Lol bye. Any song that needed a remix to get there in the first place would be ‘cheating’ too. The joke here are all the people upset that he’s winning through Billboard’s measurements of popularity.

Despacito (Justin Bieber remix, Major Lazer & MOSKA remix, Versión Salsa, Versión Portugués) Shape Of You (Acoustic, Ghostt remix, Major Lazer remix, Latin remix, Stormzy remix) Closer (Closer remixes EP --- 4 songs) Old Town Road (Billy Ray Cyrus remix, Diplo remix, BRC/Young Thug/Mason Ramsey)
Try everything you can to deny OTR's success, but it's by far a more dominant #1 than all of these songs that also had remixes. If OTR's are having more impact that's not his fault.

I hope it gets 17 weeks just to see Mariah Carey stans reactions when the tied record is broken by a meme song.

I agree about being extra, but he (and his label) are not taking any risks. They didn't need a Diplo remix to block ME! and probably (99% chance) didn't need that Area 51 video to beat bad guy.

If OTR's are having more impact that's not his fault. For all the other songs the remixes weren’t as popular as the original and aren’t what got them extra success. Nas has to release remixes to reinforce popularity because he wants to create a shitstorm among music fans.

Will Justin Bieber get credit for bad guy? What about the 2 artists on the new remix of OTR? Either way, I'm rooting for OTR even if the record lasts a year or so.

I don’t see why everyone wants OTR to break the record. It’s not even particularly good.

Despacito and Shape of You were overplayed to hell so I dislike them, but Closer is a guilty pleasure because it’s so catchy. OTR is overplayed to hell for some reason so it’ll fall into the first category by next year when it fades.

I don’t see why everyone wants OTR to break the record. It’s not even particularly good. I didn't think "Despacito" was a particularly good song (especially the Bieber version), but I rooted for it to break the record too. Good is subjective anyway.

Perfect also had at least two remixes. Beyonce and Andrea Bocelli.

This song has lasted this long because of young kids...I'm talking 5 year olds, who are listening to this song on YouTube all day long. Yes, it's not the only reason but it's definitely helping. So midnight starts potential 17th week, right?

Y’all need to calm down lmao. It’s a meme song, through and through. Quality is subjective, but in all honesty the quality of the song doesn’t really matter here. Personally, I do want OTR to not be #1 anymore but I also enjoy the fact that this phenomenon will probably never happen again, and I am enjoying it.

If OTR's are having more impact that's not his fault. I have to defend SOY here. These SOY remixes and acoustic version were released in February and March, not in SOY's 12th week at #1. I think "he released" these remixes just for fun, I mean, they are not even on his channel. It's a different story when a song becomes huge after the remix, that's why I respect Closer's and SOY's run more. Now, I'd love to see OTR breaking that record, but I really don't like to see that he'll do that with 10 remixes. It just doesn't feel right for me, it's legit tho. I was okay with Young Thug/Mason Ramsey, but Dolly Parton...
