Let's get into these extras cuz I see more songs I charted here than the ones on the actual list. I'll probably thumbs up more songs after I listen to them again, but the Hair Metal gets automatic Thumbs up.
Sax and Violins - Talking Heads Already ran into this one. I like this one just fine, but see no reason why it would chart on Active Rock. I mean why not send Def Leppard to Alternative for that reason? because they don't belong there either. :kii:
No Man's Land - Leon Russell I didn't recall this one. Those vocals were kinda off. The music was alright.
Turn It Up - Henry Lee Summer I mostly remember Henry from "Wish I Had A Girl". That one had a proper John Cougar Heart Land Rock sound. This one was fine with the guitars but not very memorable at all.
All or Nothin' at All - Bruce Springsteen More Heartland Rock. This time from Bruce Springsteen. This one might be sound better than all the ones we actually ranked. Really sounds like something off "Born In The U.S.A"
The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead - XTC I like this one quite a lot. Sounds good for Active because of the harder guitar works.
Closer to Me - The Outfield The last time I remember charting this band was in 1989 with "My Paradise". Pretty good song too. I don't recall this one, but I surely would have charted it too.
Did Ya - The Kinks Nice to see this band charting something in the 90's. First time listen for me only it didn't do much for me.
Hot and Bothered - Cinderella F U C K yeah Cinderella! Love the 80's Metal vocals way too much for my own good. This song reminds me of another one. Maybe from Kiss, Great White, Poison? The Wayne's World crew was cool.
Black Moon - Emerson, Lake & Palmer These guys were part of Yes and Asia. I like this more than I thought I would? I'm not a big Prog Rock fan.
Heartbreak Blvd - Shotgun Messiah Hell Yeah! This is exactly what I was listening to from 88-92. Angsty Hair Metal like Skid Row, Bullet Boys and Kane Roberts. Charted this one too. #20 peak. I would have put this one in my high 20's for this RD. Love that guitar crank right before the chorus.
One Word - Baby Animals Another one I charted. Great Australian Rock band. They had a cool Heart sound. Also would have made my top half on this RD.
Weight of the World - Ringo Starr Wasn't aware that Ringo released anything in 1992. This song was quite pleasant. The production value is strong and the song is mad melodic.
Amnesia - Tora Tora Few Hair Metal bands got passed my radar. This wasn't one of them. When you love the genre all the songs are fist in the air Rock anthems. Title of the song is the name of my favorite strip club.
Luv on Me - Roxy Blue Speaking of Strip scenes. Roxy Blu also had the perfect rock vibe for the scene. This one is off their debut album "Want Some". You can hear a bit of Southern sugar in the guitars too. The word was that the big Glam Metal bands kept these lesser known bands albums on the shelves for a few years to not screw with their own 15 minutes of fame during the late 80's. "Times Are Changin'" would be the one best known among the Hair Metal heads. Killer Power ballad
Story of the Blues - Gary Moore A bit blusey. I prefer his harder stuff.
Smells Like Nirvana - "Weird Al" Yankovic Weird "Al" riding on Nirvana coattails. I like that he used hard guitars in this and kept the party rock anthem in, but it's true what he said. I could never understand one word Kurt sang. I liked the song strictly for that riff. This one was a hoot tho. I gave it about the same chart life as the actual charts did. It was fun and I actually understood what Al sang too.
Outshined - Soundgarden The first Sound Garden song I charted. I thought this band blew the piss out of Pear Jam and Nirvana, but not Alice In Chains and surely not STP, but this was one of their fiercer jams. They didn't F U C K around when it came to the riffs.
High - The Cure Well this is surely a great song, but better suited for Alternative chart. 'nuff said.
Tear Down the Walls - Kix Another one of my favorite up and coming Hair Metal bands of the 80's. "Girl Money', "Don't Close Your Eyes". These guys were actually around since 1981 paying their dues until 1987. When Metal blew up the Pop charts. Steve Whiteman had some great vocals that really shined in this powerballad. This one would have made my top 20 on this RD.
Anything at All - Mitch Malloy Mitch was another singer Van Halen considered when Sammy Hagar left. I would have preferred Mitch over Gary Cherone. Mitch was rocking proper with this jam. 'nuff said.
