I'm glad he dropped the sound of his first album, it was a bit too try-hard. This is such a nice little groove. Love the instrumental. And the video is great.

I'm glad he dropped the sound of his first album, it was a bit too try-hard. What do you mean? New entry at No 3 on British charts which is a letdown after number one of "Sign OTT", but that´s the only previous single which charted in UK, so not bad. His other singles charted. |

He was trying too hard to break his OD image (which I can't blame him) and leaned heavily into that singer/songwriter rocker shtick. Trying to be taken seriously as an "artiste." A lot of it was stilted, ill-fitting and unconvincing. This seems way more natural coming from him. |

I have no issues with him exploring different musical styles than his former boy group. 1) I didn't like One Direction and 2) I like this a lot and clearly this sounds nothing like 1D. He just didn't pull it off convincingly on his debut. Some of it worked, most of it didn't.
This feels like a good fit for him and has an ease about it that most of his debut lacked.

I wish this song was about a minute longer. He gets you in the groove, but comes too soon. If he would’ve just held on a little bit longer, I could’ve gotten my rocks off, too.
But, there’s replay value.

Listening to this made me happy for some unknown reason I can't put my finger on. This is quite different from anything else I've heard from him (SOTT, Kiwi) and I welcome it.

This is one of my favorite singles of the year, there's something really special about it... like an "enchanting" (for lack of a better word) quality you don't find often on a pop song.

He's included in the latest Columbia promo newsletter as 'Coming Soon' with a still of the music video of "Lights Up". The SNL promo is also mentioned, so I'm inclined to think that the second song he will perform at SNL on November 16 (possibly "Watermelon Sugar") will be properly pushed to radio, unless the promotion is focused on "Lights Up" or Harry's inclusion is only because of the aforementioned SNL performance.

Guess they hoped for a hype alone, but this has faded out into obscurity, even UK is not on board. He has two options now - next single has to be pushed and promoted hard or go back to "Another Direction".
