99.7 Atlanta is playing this a lot. I've heard it multiple times already, introduced as 'brand new music', and they only ever play official singles.

My guess is they are clearly already testing the song in select markets, then will decide if it'll get fully pushed/announced. A year old album track doesn't just magically start getting hundreds of spins on radio for no reason.

They actually do have fairly similar melodies, but that's where the similarities end. The production on each song is drastically different. "Cool" is a laid back chill pop song the is fairly acoustic heavy, particularly in the choruses. "Cruel Summer" is much more layered with lots of electronic loops giving the song a more energetic vibe than "Cool."

Honestly, there are dozens of songs I'd say are more similar to "Cool" than this and vice versa.

I really want this to take off. I know the era fizzled out and I don’t actually expect the song to even go far - not even as far as The Man, but the album is too good to end how it did. The fact that radio is picking up on this song as much as they are considering it’s nearly a year old following a song that pretty much flopped bodes well.

I would really love for this to be a single like a lot of you, but I'm not sure Taylor will go for it- mainly because of what's going on in the world right now. Frankly it has been quite a cruel summer and the first line including the words "you know that I caught it" probably isn't helping. She also usually has great music videos to go along with her singles and there's no way they have one for this given the circumstances.

I'd love to be wrong, maybe they will just give this an adds date and see what happens, but I'm doubtful.

This has got to be right outside the top 50. "Play Date" has 265 spins at #50, only 44 more spins than the mock update for this and the mock updates are almost always lower than reality. Unfortunately, nothing is likely to go recurrent this week nor are we looking at any purges unless "In Your Eyes" really takes a massive nose dive. So we gotta hope this can manage to overtake Melanie for #50 or for "Suda" to drastically collapse. Otherwise this is going to get stuck right outside the top 50 until hopefully some room clears up before this wave of ratio interest dies off.

I'd really love to see a random album track in the top 50. I don't think it's happened since Taylor herself last did it with "Gorgeous" and even then that deserves an asterisk since it was at least a promo single. This ain't even that!

Isn’t this too little too late? They should’ve pushed this around April or even last year as the 1st or 2nd single off the project.

Harry’s team handled and prepared for “Watermelon Sugar” well in advance knowing it would be slated as a summer single. This seems like a sudden last minute decision to give it a radio push when summer has already begun. Taylor really botched this era.

I’m shook. I never thought a push was going to happen based on so many fan favorites being ignored every era thus far...but I guess the fact that stations started to pick up and play it encouraged them to make an official push.

I’m also thinking that the push will be very minimal (i.e., no performances, video, streaming playlists, etc). So I’ll just hope for a Top 20 peak on Pop and that I at least hear it once on the radio!
