Again, don't know your ethnicity, but the content she not only reblogged but in some cases composed herself is extremely racist and it really isn't up to non-black people to say we can "put it past her". Every person can have their own personal opinion of whether or not they can "put it past her". All black people can say they don't accept her apology and a white fan can still decide to put it past him/her and continue staning for the girl.

I don't get the outrage. Did she post or like these posts/tweets last year? She was 14/15 years old at the time. So if it were someone like Millie Bobby Brown posting stuff like this today, would you say "she's just a teenager"?

She is highly problematic, but I don’t want to see her fail, I hope she’s genuinely changed but I don’t think so. Meh. After all this has come out, I do. She’s a below average vocalist that doesn’t bring much artistic integrity to the table. As a pop star, the least you can do is not be hateful/racist to maintain your career trajectory. Everyone is “sorry” after they’re exposed for s**t like that. Maybe I’m pessimistic and have met too many racists/homophobes/hateful people in my life, but people like that don’t change unless they’ve been confronted by their bias and are forced to examine their conditioning. Her apology doesn’t detail any events that lead me to believe she organically woke up and wasn’t a racist anymore, but maybe this event will transpire an intellectual shift.

I didn’t realize part of all this mess included her mocking Rihanna’s abuse on tumblr too.

I don't get the outrage. Did she post or like these posts/tweets last year? She was 14/15 years old at the time. So if it were someone like Millie Bobby Brown posting stuff like this today, would you say "she's just a teenager"? Just jumping in really quick. I think I’d call her an ignorant teenager who has to grow up. When I was in late middle school (2009ish), we all posted stuff like this and around the time we graduated high school my friends and I have had several discussions about how horrific our posts were and that we were horrible kids. We still discuss this today (6 years after graduating high school) and it’s something that’s always stuck with us. We are all pretty hardcore liberals now who are pretty livid at police brutality and try to promote acceptance/diversity as much as we can in our adult lives. I think people are allowed to grow. On the school front, I really feel the educational system doesn’t do enough to make it clear what is and isn’t racist. In my adult life, I’m now a teacher and see not much has changed since I was in middle school, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see that a large percentage of my Students posted things like those. I don’t think that means they are horrendous kids who will never grow up to be a good contribution to society. I’m not black, but I’m gay, and while it’s not a side by side comparison, I’ve heard horrific homophobic comments from students while working in the schools. I gave a speech to my 8th graders about being gay and bullying attached to that and these comments disappeared from the majority of students. I also got in huge trouble for discussing this with my students and I think that highlights how unwilling schools are to tackle hard issues. Growing up i think it was clear to us that if we called an African American person the n word it was racist and horrible I’m not sure it was clear to us that laughing at a meme of an African American person holding fried chicken was also a horrible thing to do. And as a teacher, I can’t in good conscious judge a child forever on their actions when they haven’t even learned how to drive a car yet. I’ve gotten many apologies over the years from former classmates of mine for bullying me in high school, and for many of them I truly do believe they’ve grown and they haven’t developed to be homophobic people in their adult lives. To be clear I don’t think these posts are okay or were at the time. I just think people are allowed to evolve from their childhood mistakes

Millie Bobby Brown has grown up in the public eye, so I don't think that is a fair comparison to Camila. Camila lived a normal life until the age of what 16/17?
Also her comments go past just racial slurs directed at any one ethic group. Asians were also targeted. Domestic Violence jokes towards Rihanna were also posted. Hell she even went in on her "inspiration, bestie" Taylor Swift slut shaming her and also making fun of her music. And then calls Taylor her inspiration in interviews?? Nah this girl is fake fake fake! As if being racist wasn't bad enough all these other posts just add fuel to the fire. I do think she is sorry however, sorry she got caught.

Cancel culture and the theatrics need to end. People make mistakes and they should have the chance and ability to rightfully atone for them. Also, let's not pretend that everyone posting here hasn't said something racially insensitive or "problematic" once in his or her life. For God's sake. You make mistakes, you learn and grow. That's called being human. Cancel culture 100% doesn't exist

Camilla could have grown since that time is the point. I don't know her personally so I can only take her at her word. I'd be banned from the world if you judged me by some of my posts from even 5 years ago. I have grown since then is my point.

I am still obsessed with Living Proof. Something about that song is just magical. It's so quirky and off-beat, but has a charm. She also performs the hell out of it. Well, except for her Jingle Ball performance recently. That whole mini-concert was sad. I kept thinking: "What happened to the Camila that made me interested who gave killer performances this era on SNL, Ellen, Fallon, and the BBMAs?!" A small gripe though because she is not someone I ever imagine seeing in concert, but I am still impressed that she managed to put together something so thrilling, especially compared to the milquetoast offerings from her debut album. She dug more into her Latin roots while expanding her sound. This album will always hold a special place in my heart, shitty sales and bad press be damned.

Some of those post are from around the same time she auditioned for X-Factor, and I don't think they were looking for the "most insensitive Tumblr" with that show, were they? lol. Re getting caught, I'm surprised NO ONE thought about her Tumblr and cleaning it up when she got signed or ever when she went solo. Crazy.

These weren’t new, they were discovered around the time she popped up on x factor and first started getting fans. It’s just nobody cared then. I think she apologized when they originally surfaced too. I think some of these were posted when she was younger than 14/15.
At one point she posted about seeing her old posts and realizing they were sketchy but leaving it up anyway because it was “nostalgic” for her to remember the fun times when she was younger... or something like that.
I know a llot of middle school kids think stuff like that is funny. And she’s very well might have grown since then. But still, it’s just... I don’t know if I’ll ever really trust her.. She’s never seemed very sincerely regretful to me. Like she gets it on a surface level and knows what to say but... eh.
Won’t make a bit of difference to her career IMO. It will blow over soon enough. But it will live on in Stan wars FOREVER.

I think we should point out that some people are raised with hearing this kind of stuff in their homes. She could've been raised horribly or she could've been influenced or something. I'm not justifying this at all because it's absolutely disgusting what she posted, but I'm just thinking of the "what-ifs". I think this whole cancel culture thing is dumb and doesn't give anyone the chance to grow from their mistakes and progress forward and learn from it all, because if we don't then there's really no value in getting better if someone get's reminded of this same thing everyday and think they'll never be able to work on it. The things that were re-blogged are understandably unforgivable for some people and rightfully so, including me in which I'm a fan of hers. I just hope she takes all of this, takes a few days/weeks off, and releases some sort of apology video of HER words. Because even though I'm glad she apologized (because most artists nowadays will just hope it passes), it was a pretty lame apology.

In other news, I think Liar might actually be my favorite song on the record now
The hook of it stays with me and hasn't burned as much as Cry For Me or Shameless The sax is still everything in the intro and outro I also did love the music video for Liar a lot so that helped

I’m just sad about this. It’s disappointing when people you like say awful things. I was rooting super hard for her, so this is a slap in the face. There are definitely immature 15 year olds out there in 2019 that make jokes like those and don’t care about the consequences. Idk how she’s going to prove that she’s changed.

Look, I can't pretend to view this from the eyes of the black community. As others stated, my opinion really is moot here since the words / attack wasn't targeted at me. However, as a gay man, I have had to think about artists / celebrities who have had stuff "resurface" and/or who have made blatant homophobic comments. In those instances, some I feel have given genuine apologies / taken actions (Eminem, 50 Cent, Tracy Morgan, Iggy Azalea) and then there are some who I think gave a "save face" apology and really haven't changed / I haven't changed my views on them due to little to no action I consider worthwhile (Chris Brown, Kevin Hart, Isaiah Washington, Beenie Man, Common, Azealia Banks). There are tons of examples here. My point is this, I try to look at how somebody grows from that incident and then decide if I want to give them another chance. Camila frankly needs to do more than just the "save face" apology. IDC when this was posted or how old she was. 14 year olds still know the power of the internet. I hope she has grown, I hope she continues to grow, and frankly, only she can show the world through her actions if she's sincere or not. Time will tell. Whew. Ya’ll are always mentioning the fact that you’re “Gay” as if that has anything to do with the blatant ass racism displayed by another individual. • The fight is NOT the same. • The plight of Black people is NOT the same to that of Gay people. • The struggles that Black people face is NOT the same and not to be compared with the struggles faced by Gay Men, especially “non-Black” Gay men.

I am almost at my wit's end with this fake outrage I have been seeing. Don't make me ask for receipts from every conversation you have had with your friends or s**t you have posted, knowingly or unknowingly. Furthermore, I don't want to see ANYONE here insisting on branding Camila a "racist" while bopping along to Ariana Blackface Grande, Miley "I used Black Culture when it suited me but the MILLISECOND it didn't, I was quick to s**t openly on a whole Black artform" Cyrus, or geeking out over f**king Disney Plus, with its RICH history of horrifically racist and stereotypical cartoons. There are few things I despise more in this world than hypocrisy. Also, it is convenient that I have yet to see any posts about the actual positive stuff that Camila has done for minorities since she has become famous. ENOUGH. WITH. THE. bulls**t. Are you Black? Like... 😂😂😂 Furthermore, this has NOTHING to do with the “positive things that Camila has done for minorities”... Were speaking about BLACK people. What “positive things” has she done for the Black community? Also, the fact that you’re mentioning Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus as if they both, especially the latter, wasn’t dragged the same way. However... they weren’t caught making disgusting racist comments and reblogging disrespectful, bigoted posts on a social media website 100x over. What the hell are you talking about? Always trying to find excuses to excuse another persons bullsh*t. Whew Chile!

We’re not speaking about “others”, were speaking about racism and racism towards Black people at that (and Asians) which is what this entire conversation is about. When a conversation arises about Gay people and the prejudice shown towards them/us then we can talk. Typical anyhow. Of course you wouldn’t get it. “...Crude point you tried and failed to make”. I didn’t try and then fail with anything, Sis. “Geez. I bet you’re fun at parties”. LMFAO! Child... 🤣

If you're white or non-black, please don't speak on what black people need to get over or forgive. That’s Problematic and shows your complacency with racism.
When I was 14, I didn’t have the vocabulary or enough hate in my heart to be as racist. I was somewhere being a teenager doing teen like stuff. I wasn’t online calling people wetbacks, chinks, tight-eyes, Mayo, cracker, and things like that. This little girl had a big problem and this was probably acceptable behavior in her household and probably still is. She's Cuban and white Cubans seem to be very racist towards black and darker-skinned people. Racism is not something that just goes away. It’s deep-rooted and is a burning hatred within.
