Wasn’t at all expecting to see Lady A make the Top 10 lol, but I’m glad that I was able to help LBT snatch the crown with their collab. I wish the song itself was able to do more, but that was also likely my doing lol. Now what I’m REALLY interested in is seeing where Faith Hill ended up!!! I will say that she earned more points than Alan Jackson!

Based on the gender-bent track record on this chart, that’s either very good or lackluster.

10. Carolyn Dawn Johnson
Points: 1594 Kicking off the top 10 for the ladies, we have the talented Carolyn Dawn Johnson continuing the epic era that she began back in 2021! Starting in the 2nd half of 2021, she only earned 710 points total last year. The fact that she earned more than twice that this year speaks to just how successful her debut era has been! She kicked off the year with a top 5 smash (with Martina McBride singing background vocals!) with "Georgia", followed it up with a top 4 smash in "I Don't Want You To Go", followed by another top 10 smash with "One Day Closer To You". As of the end of the year "I'll Think Of You That Way" had just begun charting as well, giving her a total of 1594 points for the year!

Group of the Year Little Big Town had a killer year - I knew the feature would put them over the top.
SHeDAISY continuing to SHeSLAY <3.

9. Terri Clark
Points: 1607 Next up, we have PCT50 Staple Terri Clark! And, it is honestly insane to me that she is only #9, based on the year that she had. She kicked off the year with "Everybody's Gotta Go Sometime" being a multi-week top 3 smash, closing out the Life Goes On era. Then she launched into the How I Feel era with two consecutive #1 smashes, "Everytime I Cry" and "Now That I Found You". Both of which seemed to rise incredibly fast and hit the top with relative ease. At the end of the year, "You're Easy On The Eyes" was flying up the charts as well, sitting just outside the top 10. It's almost a shame that her #1s were such quick risers, because to me it feels like she was more on fire than most of the other ladies this year!

8. Patty Loveless
Points: 1652 Another lady that we can consistently count on to deliver on this chart is Patty Loveless! And similar to Terri, I'm almost shocked that she's only #8 based on how on fire she was this year. She did kick off the year with "Ships" peaking in the top 6, before beginning her new era with a vengeance! "You Ain't Here To Miss Me" flew up to the chart, claiming the top spot for two weeks (and also singlehandedly making George Jones the 15th-biggest male artist of the year, lmao!!). "I Don't Want To Feel Like That" followed it to the top as well. And by the end of the year, "To Have You Back Again" was at #8, ultimately giving her a 3rd-consecutive #1 a few weeks into the new year. With this hot #1 streak going, she will definitely be one to watch in 2023!!

7. Kacey Musgraves
Points: 1721 Kacey Musgraves continues to be a major player on this chart as well! While "Keep It To Yourself" only spent 58% of its chart run in 2022, it did kick off the year with a top 5 smash for her. And I just realized she is the 3rd lady in a row to kick off a new era right after the start of the year as well! "Late To The Party" kicked off her 2nd era with another top 5 smash, before "Dime Store Cowgirl" followed it all the way to the top, being our only non-consecutive multi-week #1 of the year. "Biscuits" was a smash as well, flying up to the top 5 right before the end of the year.

6. Miranda Lambert
Points: 1753 Missing out on the top 5 but still slaying in general, we have Miranda Lambert! She kicked off the year with a two-week #1 smash in "Automatic". She didn't hit the top again, but she did follow that up with a multi-week #2 smash with "Priscilla" (one of the many victims of "New Hometown"'s domination, lmao!!!), and then "Something Bad" with Carrie Underwood hit the top 4 right before the year ended. "Platinum" had just begun to chart when the year ended, giving her 39 extra points. Lmao I'm going to have to go back and look at how many victims "New Hometown" claimed. For some reason I feel like it blocked even more than Sara normally blocks. I know that Devin Dawson was one of them, and "Priscilla", and also "Lies"...

Does anyone have any thoughts on which ladies we might see in the top 5?!! This may be harder to predict, since so many of them seem to be so consistently successful... You might be shocked by some who you may be expecting to see but they don't even make the top 10 at all...

I am so happy to see Collin Raye, Blackhawk, The Wilkinsons, and Patty Loveless all be in the Top 10 of their respective Top 10s. Do wonder if Deana Carter will make it but am doubting it.
Love seeing Little Big Town being #1 Group, and always happy to see SHeDAISY at the Top 2. Expecting Sara to be #1 but wonder which female will be #2?

5. Shania Twain
Points: 1835 Of COURSE Shania Twain won't be one to miss out!! She kicked off the year with the tail-end of "Home Ain't Where His Heart Is (Anymore)" becoming a top 3 smash, and then "Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)" got stuck at #2 behind SHeDAISY's multi-week #1 smash "In Terms Of Love". "That Don't Impress Me Much" then kicked off her Come On Over era with a 2-week #1, and then "Love Gets Me Every Time" was already up to the top 15 after just 6 weeks on the chart when the year ended! It of course was just a #1 smash a couple weeks ago, meaning she is off to a great start in 2023!

4. Reba McEntire
Points: 1853 Reba only saw three chart entries this year, but had the fortunate timing of them all being massive smashes that had nearly their entire chart runs fall within this year! "The Fear Of Being Alone" did earn about 20 points back in 2021, but otherwise the rest of its massive run fell within 2022. And it was massive! This song climbed for nearly 20 weeks, before having some of the worst timing of any song this entire year. It got stuck at #3 behind Martina's multi-week #1 smash "Wrong Baby Wrong" and then Faith Hill's multi-week #1 smash "Cry", as well as Jo Dee's multi-week #2 smash "Welcome To The Rest Of My Life" that also failed to wait out Martina and Faith but did manage to hold off Reba. Reba then had a #1 smash with "How Was I To Know", and a top 4 from "I'd Rather Ride Around With You", which was at #4 on the final chart of the year. The longevity of all three of her songs helped her out significantly in terms of final point totals, as they all had looooong steady climbs towards the top!

I feel like Shania is still kind of under the radar compared to some of the other huge legendary names - Sara, Miranda, Martina, Patty, Reba....but she has really been a mainstay and her catalog is <3.

Faith Hill leapfrogging Martina, Reba, and Jo Dee, while also avoiding the shadow of Sara Evans remains one of the biggest MOMENTS this chart has ever seen imo. To have Faith come back from such a rather lackluster debut era in such a way with a very powerful lead single was very satisfying to watch.

3. Lee Ann Womack
Points: 1875 Lee Ann Womack may not have been on some people's radar as an artist who did well enough to beat out the likes of Miranda, Reba, Shania, etc. this year, but she absolutely did! She launched her new I Hope You Dance era towards the end of 2021, and that set her up for an incredibly lucrative 2022! "Ashes By Now" saw her kicking off the year with a #1 smash, "I Know Why The River Runs" climbed all the way up to #4, "I Hope You Dance" became a multi-week #1 smash, and then "Why They Call It Falling" had just barely begun to chart by the end of the year, but was rising rapidly enough to where it will be a #1 contender within the next couple weeks in real-time! And finally, Brothers Osborne released a feature with Lee Ann, "Loving Me Back", which only earned 78 additional points by the end of the year, but may be poised to give her another smash in 2023!

Those 3-4 weeks when all those songs were competing for #1 was probably the most iconic stretch in this chart's history, tbh!

2. Sara Evans
Points: 2001 Sara Evans continues to be the most successful artist in PCT50 HISTORY, delivering the smashes one after the other in an unrelenting fashion!!! Although the new recurrent rules have greatly shortened her amount of time spent sitting at #1, she still easily blocks people from the top without mercy with barely any effort whatsoever, and continues to get bigger seemingly every year! This year, while "Cheatin'" was more of a 2021 hit, it was literally sitting at the top for the first three weeks of the year. Then "Coalmine" followed next with a two-week stay at the top, "New Hometown" managed to slay the top for FOUR WEEKS (which I feel is absolutely unheard of with our new recurrent rules! What a legend!!), and finally "Missing Missouri" was sitting at the top for literally the three final weeks of the year. This is probably the only time the same artist will ever have the #1 song for the first three weeks AND the last three weeks of the year, unless Sara somehow manages to do it again herself in the future! Unfortunately for Sara, her super-fast climbs paired with the fact that "Cheatin'" got most of its points in 2021 allowed someone else to sneak ahead... 1. Martina McBride
Points: 2294 But alas, there is one lady who saw even more points coming her way this year! And that lady is of course the legendary Martina McBride. One of the biggest artists on the chart through the Waking Up Laughing era, her new Shine era has taken that to the next level!! The first thing she did right was have the absolute PERFECT timing of debuting "Wrong Baby Wrong" during the first week of the new year, so it did not have to share any points with 2021. That song saw a Sara Evans style run to the top, FLYING up the chart to ultimately become a multi-week #1 smash! She followed it up with "Lies", which I mentioned previously had the bad luck of getting trapped behind "New Hometown", relegating it to #2, but it had a much longer, slower chart run, allowing it to earn a LOT of points. Then the followup "Ride" was also another quick-riser, flying up the chart to a #1 finish! Which allowed "Wild Rebel Rose" enough time to sneak onto the chart and earn her some extra points as well, even though it will be more of a 2023 smash. Throw in the fact that she was also asked to contribute her talents to launching Carolyn Dawn Johnson's career with the top 5 smash "Georgia", and Martina's voice was the one that most heavily dominated our fictitious airwaves for the year of 2022!!!

I can't believe how badly Jo Dee fell off this year... She was the primary one that I was most surprised to see not make the top 10, as she's been right up there with Sara/Martina as one of the top 3 biggest women on the chart! Also a little surprised Faith didn't make it, although she did take a few weeks off at the beginning of the year and then "You're Still Here" wasn't as big of a hit as most other ladies' second hits, which put her a little bit behind...

I’m guessing Faith ended up right under CDJ on the list (EDIT: even a bit further, damn lol) but she still had a fantastic year in my opinion. She started the year off marvelously, coming back strong with “Cry” (which debuted in the literal final week of 2021) and kicking off this era with a multi-week #1, which I mentioned had not only managed to keep away from Sara, but also leapfrogged around three other legendary women to get there. “You’re Still Here” was a slower climb and just missed out on the Top 5, but it didn’t slow her down at all, with “When the Lights Go Down” climbing up for 18 weeks to the #1 spot. Faith couldn’t avoid Sara this time, but still managed to wait her out, which I think is quite impressive, considering she didn’t even get any help from me in her most crucial final week. Had she been just a bit quicker, I imagine WTLGD would’ve also been a multi-week smash. We don’t talk about “Free,” though, lol. That was a tragedy, and probably entirely my fault. It started off promising but QUICKLY petered out. HOWEVER!! She’s still going strong, with “Stronger” being her latest single, and one I definitely hope to send as far as I possibly can!!! I also honestly wish we had more than six single spots sometimes; as Cry has at least three more songs that I think could slay this chart. Picking single #6 is going to be very difficult for me. I love to see this Top 5 though, they’re all so deserving of their placements and are such legends, in real life and on this chart!!
