She said, "No. I was just leaving." but as she walked out the door She said, "Honey, you can have him I don't want him anymore." 3. “Good as I Was to You” Total: 134 Average: 11.17 Std Dev: 9.17 (5th Lowest) {Songs Remaining}Five Minutes I Didn’t Know My Own Strength

“Good as I Was to You” was released as the third and final single to Lorrie’s fifth studio album Greater Need and reached #4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks in May 1997. This is also the final single from that album to be featured in the rankdown. This remained a very consistent top 10 contender for the duration of its run and is the 5th lowest polarizing song of the rankdown. Both castleoblivion26 and toomuchboy become the next participants to depart with their top ranking song while myself and .indulgecountry say goodbye to a top 5. All but one participant put this in their top 20 making this one of the strongest performing songs and is a well deserved top three finisher!

I'm very pleasantly surprised that this did so well. I certainly wasn't expecting it to be ahead of songs like "Except For Monday" and "Something In Red".

"Good As I Was To You" is just such a powerful song from Lorrie. I love the explosive start to the chorus. I always get the vibe of a strong, empowered female from the narrator of this song, and it is truly an epic thing to behold Now I am ecstatic about both of these songs in the top 2, and honestly do not care how they finish!!! It is my 2 vs my 3

I myself certainly consider it to be one of her classics and I can't wait to feature it again in a future 1996 Year-End Rankdown! I also can't believe that this was released as the THIRD single from that album as it very likely should've been the first.

And how rare for a third single to be a big hit after the first two weren't.

Yeah, the fact that it was such a HUGE hit when the first two singles were relative flops is downright baffling. ("By My Side" was still a top 20, but still didn't do as well as you would expect for a lead single. Clearly there was no momentum left for "I Just Might Be", so the way that "Good As I Was For You" exploded seems like a weird fluke. I'm so glad it did though!!)

Alright, who is ready for the grand finale?!? As I mentioned above we're putting her first number one hit "Five Minutes" up against her third and final number one hit "I Didn't Know My Own Strength". One of them comes in as the 3rd least polarizing song while the other is the 9th most polarizing...which one is which???
Combined they have three #1 rankings and a noteworthy mention is the fact that one participant loses both their top ranking and last place song! Who could it be???
Let's find out shall we!

I just wanted to thank everyone that participated in the rankdown and while I do wish we had a bigger turnout all I can say is it was truly their loss! It was such a pleasure for me to get to revisit Lorrie's discography as she is someone that I grew up with on country radio and her music brings back some wonderful memories as my late mother used to play her music around the house frequenlty.
Thank you all again!

My number 1 won!! See? I'm not so different from you! ♥
I have to say thanks to bboat11, what he said is in fact a true reality. I don't pay attention to lyrics when listening to music, mostly because I can't understand most of it (regardless of what you might think my level of english is) And the lyrics bboat11 put from Something In Red, would have made me bolster it forward several positions. I'm not made of stone, I have my heart lol
I can't believe how things turned out. My first introduction to Lorrie was her Letting Go... Slow album, and I went back from there, so usually her more modern songs appeal to me the most. Again, I like most of this collection of songs, so don't think I tanked your favorite songs just for fun. I had no idea what songs were popular or even singles by the time I started this rankdown, so that's my excuse. However, I find it almost comical how my taste is soooooooo different from most.

YASSSSS, this is a bit of a surprise finish for me, but I am SO happy to see "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" get its due here!!! This song is incredible. One of the catchiest, toe-tappingest songs Lorrie has ever released I am super eager to see how this one does in the next BotB rankdown! "Five Minutes" would have been a reeeeaaaaally predictable winner, and honestly one of the most overplayed songs of her career, so I am happy seeing it lose to a less predictable yet equally deserving song I love this one though, and would have been sad to see it miss the top 2!

While I like "Five Minutes" a lot, I'm thrilled that "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" won. It was the first Lorrie song that I ever heard, and I became a fan right away. It's the perfect 90s country song, and am so glad that it did well here. Thanks for hosting, tim! It was great to revisit Lorrie's catalog in this way.

Pleasantly surprised by the winner! "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" recaptured my heart when listening to the playlist for this rankdown. It isn't one of her hits that I still hear on the radio (despite it being on paper one of her biggest hits), so I had forgotten just how insatiably catchy it is. I definitely did not expect it to win this one over any of the other songs that made the top 5 tbh. OTOH, "Except for Monday" is one of Lorrie's songs that country radio has beaten into the ground and honestly it feels a bit novelty and hasn't held up that well for me and there's many other songs I wish would get the recurrent attention it receives. I'm glad to see that I helped kick it out of the top 5, because it is vastly inferior to the five songs that did make it! Thanks for hosting, tim!

Very late in catching up on this one but I wanna say a big thank you to tim for hosting this and bringing attention to this often overlooked 90's icon! And I'd also want to say "screw you" to all the tankers for "My Night To Howl" haha jk I knew going into this it was a very much unliked single by her but for me it's just perfect. Sassy, catchy and just fun! As pointed out by bboat11 this is where Lorrie excels and I think MNTH she knocks it out of the park!
