It would be fun to go back to the 80s and tell a chart-watcher that, in 2019, 32-1-17 would be a totally plausible chart run.

One Sweet Day's record fell but Mariah snatches her 19th #1! What a year for chart geek Mariah!
Crazy chart week! Fun!

One of the things I love about AIWFCIY hitting #1 now is that the song came out in 1994, the first year I got into music, so to have a song from that banner year top the chart now kind of brings things back full circle for me in that regard. It's become such a timeless song.
As a chart geek, this is also such a crazy occurrence too. I'd put this up there with events like The Twist hitting #1 in two separate (non-consecutive) years. Like, how would something like that even happen today?

Plus I'd argue that the title is associated more with another song that was an even bigger hit.

This isnβt even counting tomorrowβs chart. Weβre possibly going to lose βTalkβ, How Do You Sleep?β, βBabyβ, βTimeβ and βI Donβt Careβ. βRansomβ, βBeautiful Peopleβ & βOnly Humanβ are also at risk, but less so than the songs above. How is this not exciting!?! AAAAHHH!! We know that "Beautiful People" is #50 and "Only Human" is #44. So they made another week but they are likely gone next week.

This would be the chart without the Christmas songs 1. Circles -2 (+1) (3rd week at #1) 2. Someone you loved -3 (+1) 3. Good as hell -5 (+2) 4. Roxanne -6 (+2) 5. Memories -4 (-1) 6. Lucid Dreams -re 7. Dance Monkey -11 (+4) 8. BOP -10 (+2) 9. Bandit -31 (+22) 10. Lose you to love me -7 (-3) 11. 10.000 Hours -8 (-3) 12. Senorita -13 (+1) 13. Heartless -1 (-12) In other words, no songs were hurt during this chart week. Honestly, only getting blocked from #1 or Top 10 could be the only potential legit angst for Holiday songs being here.

Funny how Circles is probably gonna be #1 and Mariah stans are quiet now, but they were literally insulting a dude in his grave when it looked like LD would be #1. Shows how despicable some people are. funnily enough I can't seem to find the posts from these "stans". Don't start now. You must have tuned out for the last week in this discussion. This has been one of the most toxic threads out there.

Sad to see that Lucid Dreams was only #8. Even if he didn't get #1 it would've been great if he broke the record for highest re-entry

She did. Though they undermined it a little in the article by mentioning all sorts of covers, remakes or samples that hit #1, like "La Bamba", "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", or even fricking "7 Rings".you know it's iconic when it still gets them bitches talking!! I will bitch-slap you.

Iconic year, Lizzo and Mariah proved it doesnβt matter if your song is brand new, it can still be in the top slot.

I may have missed it, but is the lead over "Circles" substantial? Yes: AIWFCIY has around 33,500 points this week with the stats posted. With last week's stats, Circles only had around 28,500 points, so I'm assuming that its points for this week would be at around the same number. Surprisingly enough, even without the physical sales, it would still have a comfortable lead over Circles (31,000 vs. 28,500).

congrats Mariah!! this is fun to see and AIWFCIY is easily one of the most iconic songs of all time.
that said, i never want to see this happen again. if rules aren't put into place, there's nothing preventing this from happening each and every year with AIWFCIY eventually seeing an insane weeks at #1 record purely via re-entering every year. i also don't like what it does to the rest of the charts, essentially serving as a multiple week, high impact album bomb. for a few weeks, the only thing that matters is assorted 50+ year old holiday staples, which is a fundamental failure for a chart focused on what's new and hot. Billboard should 100% (and likely will) set a rule against this in the next couple years imo.

I love how Mariah remembers that the song hit #9 and #3 before. Someone said she's a chart geek like us, which adds up with that iconic "back to the Hot 100 #1 which you just performed, which is hard to get, not everybody has that to their credit" moment. Wonder how close a watch she keeps on the charts nowadays. I would venture a guess she's primarily tracking her own chart feats at this point.. I don't know.. I just don't see Mariah sitting at home wondering if "Dance Monkey" will hit #1 or where Billie Eilish's next single is going to peak.

On another note, I just noticed kworb updated their digital song sales estimates for last week and Christmas Tree should be #1 in Digital Song Sales. Without it, the song that would have been #1 would like have set the new record low. Aren't new digital sales record lows pretty much bi-weekly occurrences at this point? Well, the last couple of weeks they haven't been set or tied. The previous four, the first it was set then tied for three straight weeks. Next week, I suspect AIFCIY would be #1 in Digital Song Sales again thanks to continued the CD digital bundle and I wouldn't expect it to set a new or tie that record low.
