I wonder if the media references to "The Chipmunk Song" (being the last Christmas song to hit number one) has given it even a little bit of a bump. Maybe it'll chart again in the next few years?

"RATCT" hitting #2 is impressive af. Congrats! Congrats for Mariah as well. Meanwhile I hear Mariah has released yet another video for "AIWFCIY" on top of the two (if you include the behind the scenes promotional that cleverly featured the song in full) already released. Between the videos, the behind-the-scenes making ofs, the documentary, the advertisemnts across social media, the televised performances I don't think I have ever seen her (or really anyone else aside from maybe TayTay) push a song so aggressively. I just keep wondering what is the point when it and every other Christmas song has 2 days left before falling off the chart and it likely would have secured the same position without it all? Can't fault her for milking it I guess. lol Itβs been planned for months. She was working on the new video a couple months ago. The physical singles had been up for pre-order for several weeks. Itβs likely been at least a month now that everything else was planned too. I donβt think anyone expected the song to potentially spend 3 weeks at #1 this year.. it was all about doing everything possible so it could get even ONE week at #1. Ahead of the season the entire buzz surrounding the song was this would be the year it hit the top, as it has been getting closer and closer each passing year and everything was pointing to that happening. Her hitting #1 wasn't some out of the blue shock, nor would a two-week stint be shocking either (especially given streaming's continual dominance and the song's presence there). Granted it might have topped a week earlier than expected, but that's about the extent of tbe unexpected. I think some promotion was absolutely planned ahead, but I also think she is now absolutely going above and beyond what is necessary to milk the moment. Her right obviously, but it seems like an awful lot of effort for just a couple weeks of success that literally will be over and done in two days. Just MHO.

Youβre acting like she pulled these things out of her ass last minute. Itβs clear these things were planned for months. And what do you care that itβll be over and done in two days? Why does that even matter? Itβs an aggressive push. So what? Weird complaint.

By the by- has Billboard checked the views count for RATCT's video? I wouldn't say the video's aided the song's performance, given the numbers (at almost 147,000 and change, since Nov. 6).

Wasn't trying to dminish the achievemnt itself at all, as regardless of the push, it is absolutely a big win for her. :)

That's the weakest excuse for a reference for something that apparently didn't have much impact. YT's weekly chart do have the song with 2.19 million streams, so that amount is negligible.

Turns out Nobody but You is actually #1 in Digital Song Sales. No mention by Billboard of whether the song managed to debut in the Hot 100, but it did managed to debut at #9 in Hot Country Songs. Last week, the top 12 songs there made the Hot 100.

All these videos will keep getting played next year, the year after, and so on. An investment in the song this year will keep profiting every year.

Multiple videos for Fantasy, Honey, Heartbreaker, etc. Mariah created the blueprint.

How on earth did the UK allow this to go number one? "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" only peaked at number 4 there. Every time I get sad that some songs catch on in the UK and not in the US ("3 Nights", "Higher Love", "Don't Call Me Up"), I just remember that they let stuff like "I Love Sausage Rolls" and the Bob the Builder theme song become number one hits and it makes me glad that we have Billboard.

The U.K. really, really likes charity songs. And their chart has weird rules that knocked Dance Monkey down, donβt know if it wouldβve beaten it, though.

Just realized that with Roddy Ricch, DaBaby and Megan Thee Stallion, the XXL Freshman actually got it right in saying who would be the biggest names in rap music this year. Now if only YBN Cordae would get a hit song...

Well, we now know it wasn't needed, but before this actual season (i.e. when all of this would have been worked on and lined up) it wasn't so sure. The song has never done this well, and we didn't know if Rihanna or Adele would drop a surprise release. Plus, it's the 25th anniversary so some promo would be done regardless. They were doing all the could, and yeah, in the end it wasn't needed. It's still been fun to see all this. It's just all cementing the song's legacy. I'm really happy with the new video they made. It looks great, and it feels good to have a proper video from this time to document just how big this song was at 25 years old. Exactly. It is beyond just a chart thing it is legacy thing. They saw what the song has been doing the last few years due to streaming, especially last year when it got to #3 without any promo....the highest charting Xmas song in the last 60 years! The 25th anniversary came at the right time and they planned it to make it what it has been. And not for anything but I do believe RATCT is just piggybacking on AIWFCIY. Period. Which I donβt mind, I love that song and itβs definitely a classic. But its chart success itβs thanks to Mariah and her amplifying Xmas with AIWFCIY.
