It's still been fun to see all this. It's just all cementing the song's legacy. I'm really happy with the new video they made. It looks great, and it feels good to have a proper video from this time to document just how big this song was at 25 years old. Exactly. It is beyond just a chart thing it is legacy thing. They saw what the song has been doing the last few years due to streaming, especially last year went it got to #3 with out any promo....the highest charting Xmas song in the last 60 years! The 25th anniversary came at the right time and they planned it to make it what it has been. And not for anything but I do believe RATCT is just piggybacking on AIWFCIY. Period. Which I don’t mind, I love that song and it’s definitely a classic. But its chart success it’s thanks to Mariah and her amplifying Xmas with AIWFCIY. I don’t think Mariah has elevated Christmas or anything, I think it’s just streaming making Christmas music more accessible than before. But AIWFCIY is clearly the strongest Christmas song, and probably will be for years to come. But if not it, IMO Rockin Around The Christmas Tree, Jingle Bell Rock, Last Christmas, or something would take its place as number one, albeit a weaker one.

I wonder if the media references to "The Chipmunk Song" (being the last Christmas song to hit number one) has given it even a little bit of a bump. Maybe it'll chart again in the next few years? Considering that it was the first, and until recently, the only Christmas song to hit #1 on the Hot 100, "The Chipmunk Song" hasn't exactly raced up the charts every holiday season like many other Christmas favorites over the years. Perhaps that is because it is at its essence, a novelty song, and it is very much a product of its time. It came out and topped the chart during Christmas 1958, and the song was made for that specific time period as well. One only has to remember the prominent mentions of a "hula hoop" in the song to be reminded of this. Today it might just seem like a quaint mention of a particular toy, but in 1958 the mention of a hula hoop in the song was no coincidence. Hula hoops were a HUGE deal in 1958; they had just been introduced to Americans that very year and were the biggest novelty toy that children wanted during Christmas that year. So Ross Bagdasarian, the inventor and creator of "The Chipmunks", whose stage name was David Seville, quite cannily and purposely put the mentions of the hula hoop into the song as a wink and a nod to Christmas 1958 specifically. Perhaps another reason the song just isn't that popular today is because unless you're a fan of the Chipmunks, it can be hard to listen to at times. Ross sped up his own voice to make the "voices" of the three Chipmunks, and used his own regular voice for the part of "David Seville." The Chipmunks can be cute to listen to from time to time, but listening to them too much can be grating after awhile. I once heard a country cover version of "The Chipmunk Song" with a male country singer (whose name I can't recall), and the song itself is fine; especially if you hear it sung by an actual human voice, but without the novelty of it being sung by the Chipmunks, it's not really all that memorable a tune. Perhaps that's part of the reason it hasn't become a perennial Christmas favorite like AIWFCIY, RATCT and many others.

89. Ritmo (Bad Boys For Life) The fact that the Black Eyed Peas could have a comeback thanks to reggaeton genuinely scares me

Wow at No Guidance being the only gainer in the top 10 lmao. And it’s literally the song with most time in the top 10 already to begin with. Also 5 MONTHS top 10 on radio despite no real Top 40 support, can’t think of the last time that happened with a hit. The song is such a sleeper smash in every way.

I think his next album will be less successful than Scorpion singles wise. I don't know many artists who have had an album era score at least 7 top 10 hits and 3 #1 singles, yet alone 3 or more #1 singles that spent at least 29 weeks at #1. I'll be shocked if he ever sees that kind of success again. Still, he's still a major mainstream force and he'll still enjoy commercial success for years to come. That's my prediction. You're probably right about this being his peak. Look at Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 album. It had 7 TOP 5 singles, and all of the songs spent multiple weeks in the Top 10, unlike Drake's 7 Top 10s. Plus, 4 of those songs went to #1, though only for 9 weeks total. This was the pinnacle of her success. Although Control, her previous album, had 5 Top 10 songs, and janet., her next album, also had 5 Top 10 songs, she never had the commercial success of Rhythm Nation again. I don’t think any artist, not even her brother Michael, had 3 consecutive albums with at least 5 Top 10s on each of them. So, yeah Drake might have it in him to put out another album with 4 or 5 Top 10s, and I’m sure at least one of them will go to #1. But the way album bombs are so popular, the majority of those Top 10s will be short-lived.

I think if he rolls out his next album the same way he rolled out Scorpion (several singles being released before the actual album), he might score one or two #1 hits. His next album will surely land a couple of top 10 hits, even if just as an album bomb. Drake's #1's typically spend a lot of time at the position. His 4 #1 hits as a lead artist have spent a collective 39 weeks at #1, an average of almost 10 weeks per song.

Anyone else kinda excited for the demise of the Xmas songs? Some fun facts and records broken this year but I'm also ready to see some new blood on the charts. Especially with how many hits were pushed out to recurrency thanks to the Xmas songs.

I swear, if Blinding Lights doesn’t rebound and become a hit after all the Christmas songs fall off...why isn’t such a pop-friendly song getting a bigger push?

Weird that The Weeknd wouldn't be close to top ten even without Xmas songs. Heartless is getting big radio push too.

Heartless being their single choice and dropping in the midst of Christmas season were bad decisions

The issues are that 1) it wasn't immediately obvious which single was supposed to be pushed, 2) BOTH of the songs are Weeknd-by-the-numbers (Heartless is so mid it might as well be a straight-up bad song), and 3) they still don't know which single they're pushing. Heartless was getting initial push and then Blinding Lights ended up getting more push on streaming services. Heartless is the bigger single in US and Canada right now but Blinding Lights is the hit in Europe 💀
i have previously talked abt this, and i said that i'd typically consider myself a Weeknd fan… but this era so far is putting me on edge. between the middling singles and the awful promo strat that's going on, i'm worried about this era. hopefully his label/team reorganises whatever strategy they have/had for this era so far lol.

"Remember You Young" is Thomas Rhett's first single to chart on the Hot 100 and miss the Top 50 since his debut single "Something To Do With My Hands" (which peaked at #93).

His 4 #1 hits as a lead artist have spent a collective 39 weeks at #1, an average of almost 10 weeks per song. While it's true that Drake spent much more time on top with Scorpion than Janet did with Rhythm Nation, that's more a function of the way the charts work than a result of one being more successful than the other. In the late 80s and early 90s, the charts had quite a fast turnover, especially compared the the glacial pace at which they move now. I actually think, while some of us enjoy discussing longevity records, it's incredibly dull that the same songs sit in the top 10 for 25-30 weeks sometimes. I realize that's reflective of actual consumption via streaming but...yeah. I guess the public likes to just play songs to death. I'm glad when the Christmas songs come along, since it at least provides something of a shake-up and rids the chart of these old songs. I'm sure in January we will see all these old songs gaining a bunch of spots in the absence of the Christmas songs.
