Why do you keep doing this to yourself? I’m really hurting inside, but it’s hope that keep me alive. (Adele too). Just wait till a working link to a song/album on Apple Music/Spotify is made available. Until that happens, nothing is concrete and you'll just keep getting disappointed. |

Interesting that AIWFCIY suffered (relatively) during the years that Mariah (and her reputation) was in trouble on the charts (2001 - 2005) but then sprang to #1 and hasn't relented since the We Belong Together recharge. It didn't "suffer," it was just still working its way up. At that point it hadn't even been out 10 years, yet was already among the legit classics. That's actually really impressive. Those stats also show that it was already among the classics pre-Love Actually, since that movie came out in 2003 but "AIWFCIY" was already top 10. The digital age is what really kicked it up to #1. |

I wonder if some of the newer Christmas songs, in particular Under The Tree and Christmas Tree Farm, will be able to develop into classics and overtake Mariah in a few years. I love both of those songs so I hope they can at some point!

Biebs doesn't have a shot to debut at #1 but might climb there the week after. Interesting.
Although he hasn't have had a #1 since I'm the One so it's not guaranteed that he'll get there in the first place (probably will as the #1 spot is offered pretty cheap after Xmas though).
But why likely two singles? Didn't his team learn anything from The Weeknd and Selena Gomez?

People consistently seem to think that it is simply catchier and more festive than all the other Christmas songs. I can't think of any other song that gets people in the holiday spirit more than this song, and that's why people listen to it like junkies all December, so they can inject themselves with holiday festivity. rimetm's list shows that it has been the number 1 holiday song for the past 15 years. That won't change anytime soon. |

Maybe it’s a regional thing, but I remember hearing AIWFCIY all over the radio in the NYC area during the early 00’s at Christmas time. Not so much the late 90’s but Christmas music had a huge surge at radio following 9/11. I don’t think it was ever “suffering” though. It’s been one of the biggest contemporary Christmas songs since it was first released. It’s just that in recent years it became THE biggest Christmas song.

"1/4/2020" that looks so weird lol From what I've seen, month and date numbers are always double-digits, regardless of leading zeroes. So "01/04/2020" makes more sense. You will notice this if you look in Billboard Hot 100 thread archives. I went back and double checked this when I created the thread last night but it was pretty inconsistent. Both formats are correct, so I took the liberty to get rid of unnecessary zeros on this one to keep it skinny like the legendary mc  |
