I think that song number 13 may be a surprise to some people. I kind of am not surprised to see this miss the top 10 but I think others could be. One person will be extremely happy that it missed it. Surprisingly this song only has 6 top 10 ranks and only 1 of them is a top 5. There is also 2 bottom 10s for this song, both bottom 5s, with one of them being a 40. I kind of thought that it would have a high SD maybe, but it had an average one.

Every song remaining is an 8/10 or better. However, one song is easily my least favourite one left, but it'll probably finish in the top ten. On second thought, based on that hint, maybe this really is it? I hope it's that and not my #2 or #3...

I can't shake the feeling of "Bulletproof" by La Roux, a song that I hate, when I hear the beat of this song. Maybe that's part of why I don't enjoy this song hugely. This song is catchy, but not their best. I think my lowest rank left is #21.

Song number 12 is the first song that has 2 number 1s. It also has a 2 rank. This song surprised me that it was in the bottom half for a bit at the start. Then it got a huge boost from a few lists to make it to 12 and it stayed at around 12 for the rest of the way. This song was 39 points ahead of Just Can't Get Enough. Only 2 bottom 10 ranks again.

She's A Bad Mama Jama is a song I hadn't heard before, but it really reminded me of Stevie Wonder's music.

I wanna say this was one of my favourite discoveries, but I feel like I heard it before. It sounds so familiar. Anyway, this is exactly the style of funk that makes me a fan of it. Very melodic and gives you that massive feeling of nostalgia. I really thought this would have had enough support to make the top ten.

I have a feeling my whole top 10 will be gone before we get to the actual top 10 which will be a 1st for me. Yikes not this about to age well.

Next up at 11, the lowest standard deviation of the Rankdown. Kind of surprised to see this as a low SD but it started being a low SD near middle of Rankdown and it stayed lowest SD since. It actually was at 4th place for a while in middle, but then it slowly started dropping to 11, not because of any tanks, just because the other songs were ranked higher. The lowest rank for this song is only 31, and it is the first song believe it or not to not even have a bottom 5 rank. There are only 4 top 10 ranks for this and only 5 total people ranked it in the bottom half. What song could this be?

The opening 32 seconds alone are enough to warrant a top 20 ranking from me. If the rest of the song sounded like that, it would have been in my top 5. Glad this did so much better than their other song.

30. Love Changes (Everything) (29): (yup, don’t forget the parentheses in the title ) I remember thinking it was Rod Stewart when I first heard it. Very nice melody and music, with a sophistipop feel. It was a hit back home and a personal top 5. 29. Kayleigh (23): and in this case, I thought it was Phil Collins. As many have said, I like the verses much more than the choruses. A personal top 15 hit. 28. Brother Louie (29): I don’t recall hearing Modern Talking in the 80s. However they were very popular in 1998. Thus, I associate them with more with their 90s covers of 80s hits -and in some cases I like their 90s covers much better than the originals. That’s the case of BL. The 80s downtempo is ok, but it feels too slow compared with the 98 version that reached my personal top 5. Had this been the 90s version I would’ve ranked it higher. And I’m talking about the version below not the remix with a rapper. youtu.be/yo-UYrcBOzs27. More bounce to the ounce (20): this was a nice discovery in a recent rankdown. Quite a nice beat, with a forward looking sound that must’ve been heard by Daft Punk. It just lacks a bit more of melody. 26. The rain (24): another song that I recently discovered in a rankdown. Very nice production but a bit repetitive main melody that doesn’t go far ebough. 25. Axel F (27): such a great instrumental! Still sounds cool and modern. Another midsize hit back home and personal top 20. 24. Saturday Love (39): the production is pretty good, but wtf is that chorus? Is it a nursery rhyme? It got a bit annoying pretty quickly to me. 23. I want candy (34): I don’t remember hearing this in the early 80s, but in some tv commercials in the late 80s or early 90s. The music is cool enough, with good instrumental, but I’m not too fond of its melody. I admit that I’ve grown to like it more in the past couple of years, after I attended an 80s concert that included Bow Wow, Animotion and others :) the song sounded good and fun in a live setting. 22. It takes two (38): I know this is a milestone hit and one of the first r&b hip hop songs ever. I don’t remember hearing it back in the 80s though, and when I heard it I didn’t really like the melody. I still don’t although I appreciate the production... 21. Don’t go (19): this was a big hit back home, and it still has good recurrent AirPlay in radio stations playing 80s music. I loved its synth pop style, a genre I was all in back in the 80s. Btw, I thought it was sung by a man. Only learned that it was a woman several years later, when that vocalist, Alison Moyet, got a hit with When I Say; and her Yazoo partner Vince Clarke got a hit as part of the duo Erasure with Chains of love.

21. Yazoo - Don't GoThis one barely misses my top 10. The synth melody is mesmerizing enough to fall into High Energy genre. I think a band did cover this in Eurobeat fashion. Anyway this classic synthpop song was robbed. The 80's synth haters are showing their ugly colours once again. I think you refer to this song, one of my favorite dance songs of the 90s, which reached the top of my personal chart: Double You’s Run to Me

19. Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It :o That's my face when I see that three members actually ranked a party rock song higher than me. This song's history writes itself. One of the best 80's Rock anthems ever written. Gritty, angsty , flashy, and loud was what the 80's kids wanted Twisted Sister made sure they fit in the Heavy , Hair ,Glam , and apparently Pop genres. The song was all over MTV and the radio. Even snobby Billboard couldn't resist giving it a #21 peak on their chart. It also went top 10 on mainstream Rock. stress at work got you down? Girl Friend pissing you off, Covid -19 screwing up your life? Go home and play this song loud! 18. The Weather Girls - It's Raining MenCatchy jam. I remember it getting some airplay, but as far as "men" songs are concerned, I like the much more NRGetic "So many Men So Little Time" from Miguel Brown and Cinema's "I Love Men" two certified Latin Disco club classics. Cheesy vid . but at least it goes with the song's theme. 17. Tracy Chapman - Talkin Bout A RevolutionQuestion? Why call me out for this particular song? Its not like anyone hasn't given a number of other songs a #40 rank? I see a #40 for Twisted Sister, Bow Bow Wow etc...but no echo in the canyon for those ranks? I did put this at #99 on the last Alternative Rd so is anyone really surprised? I mean I could actually slot 20+ more songs in between this Tracy wonderjam, and "It Takes Two". I just didn't dig it at any level. Maybe if there was some EDM or Rap music on this list I could upgrade Tracy, but there was none so this is what sounds most like un 80's to me. End of story. 16. Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al (feat Chevy cahse lipsyncing)Now this one I love. Maybe the fact that I thought it was Chevy Chase singing for most of my life could easily be the reason. Who knows, but I also love the hokey lyrics. It reminds me of The song from that movie Spies like Us? I think? There was a hit song from that movie, but It doesn't really matter cuz I really watched it for Donna Dixon anyway. All that goodness and I still found 19 songs more stellar than this one. i love that sitcom theme show music comment @slipperyslope made. You gotta include the Chevy Chase cameo in this one. 15. Carl Carlton - She's A Bad Mama JamaAnother great song, and another 5 star music video. Cheesy, sexy and 80's. Love the lyrics too. A guy being a guy and being honest about what he likes in his women. Can't argue with that. 14. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Enola Gay...and here is were bangwave and I finally start to agree. This and "Electricity" are the first songs I heard from the band. After all these years they remain my favorites. The synths are mesmerizing. 13. Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get EnoughI agree that this is their best song. It's the sole reason I loved that La Roux songs too. Its also the first one i ever heard. The jumpy synth beat perfectly slots this in the New Wave style of the early 80's. A #40 for this classic and no body is having a heart attack. 12. Luther Vandross - Never Too MuchThis is easily my favorite Luther Vandross jam. Upbeat and catchy, and nice smooth R&B groove. It just doesn't measure up to all the classics featured on this list. 11. Yazoo - SituationAnother great synthpop song ,but the one I knew the least from the band. "Don't Go" is my favorite, followed by "Only You", then this one. I love it but the list was stacked with 80's greatness. Well my top 10 stands at -5, but I still have 5 monster classics in here. Surprised the Buggles are this high. You can see that song in my retro 80's top 30 charts if you go to my weekly chart thread.

and here we go again. Sometimes a song is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stellar it needs a post of its own. 20. Trans-X - Living On VideoDefinitely one of the best songs of the 80's, and my personal favorite Club song of all time. For once the robotik vocals fit the theme of the song and were done on purpose. 17 nonconsecutive weeks at #1 on my personal charts and a two time #1 song. I discovered this one in 1986 when it got its second wind on the charts. Billboard Hot 100 completely dismissed it, but this was a huge hit all over the world and in the Los Angeles area. particularly among the latin Disco crowd. It went on to become a huge top 10 radio hit on 106.5 KPWR in 1986 and it got countless of remixes. From Synthpop to Tecno and every dance genre in between. Pascal Languirand the composer centered a whole music career around this one song, and it remains a staple on classic 80's NRG music compilation CDs. A little more history. In 1983 it went to #1 in Spain as well as top 10 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The 1985 remix finally took them to #6 in the U.K.. The U.S. was the only chart that wouldn't budge, but as I mentioned before KPWR palyed it heavily , and had it at #60 on their top 106 of 1986. Also even tho it didn't make their year end charts both KROQ and 91X played this one all through the 80's. Especially the Hi-NRG oriented Modern Rock years. I could write a book on the history of this song but I'll save that for another time. Sorry but whenever this song or anything Trans-X related shows up on the forums I lose control of my fingers. They just type away. Sometimes I'm not even aware of it.
