I hate to say it but Nicki's Impact at 89 nobody is checking for Meghan Trainor in 2020. I am actually surprised wayne managed to chart at all....good for him.

I'm sorry, but it gets on my nerves when people think radio shouldn't influence the charts.
I hate to break it to you, but there are clear statistics which show that at least 90% of people still get their new music from radio. Which also helps with song familiarity.
If you want a chart entirely based on streaming (cuz let's be real, digital sales barely do anything now-a-days) you can look to the weekly streaming songs chart as your "Hot 100."
Where did it say that people use radio for “new music”? I don’t doubt that a high percentage of the population hear radio on a regular basis but how or why people listen to radio is a totally different thing.
I know that ofc, but have you seen radio updates recently? It seems that radio doesn’t want to let go of some of the older songs in the top and reluctant to give newer songs more power.
So that means it’s not accurate? I’m confused what stance you’re taking here.

People stream what they like and radio plays what people are familiar with. When it comes to newer songs, radio has to play it safe so as not to risk losing listeners to another station playing a song people love. That’s why outlets like social media (Tiktok) are so influential for new artists because beyond that, people are less willing to check out new music (by artists they don’t know) when they have full control over what they listen to (streaming) and radio is less willing to play unknown music because it’s too risky.

Yes that is what I’m saying. These older songs like Someone You Loved, Memories, 10,000 Hours, LYTLM, and Circles have overstayed their welcome on the radio. If you look at the streaming charts, The Box, Blinding Lights, Don’t Start Now, Falling, Dance Monkey are what people are actually listening too atm. Radio is already too late when they decided to increase Hot Girl Bummers format when it already peaked on streaming.

You’re talking about two separate issues here. Songs may have “overstayed their welcome” on radio (not sure what that means) but clearly radio is still playing them and people are still hearing them, therefore they are being heard and thus considered relevant/popular according to Billboard. People are actively listening to songs like The Box, Blinding Lights, etc. on streaming, but they’re also hearing songs like Circles and Hot Girl Bummer through radio. And it could very well be two separate groups of people. So why should the people who listen to radio have what they hear removed from the chart just because the songs are deemed old? I’m not sure what you’re saying here. Should Billboard not be including segments of the population’s listening habits because you think the songs are too old to be relevant?

The whole young money crew except for drake has basically hit their peak since 2018
Top 10 artists on social media (Social 50): 1. BTS (=) *165th week at #1* 2. Shakira (re-entry) 3. NCT 127 (+1) 4. Jennifer Lopez (re-entry) 5. Louis Tomlinson (+41) 6. Billie Eilish (-4) 7. Justin Bieber (-2) 8. Ariana Grande (-5) 9. ATEEZ (+3) 10. Tomorrow X Together (-1)
Top 10 songs (9/11): 1. Liu Yifei - Reflection (debut) 2. Jackson Wang - 100 Ways (-1) 3. Drake Bell - Diosa (-1) 4. Poppin'Party - Breakthrough (=) 5. Taylor Swift - Cardigan (-2) 6. Agust D - Daechwita (+1) 7. Thomas Rhett & Kane Brown - On Me (-1) 8. Chris Brown & Young Thug - Go Crazy (-3) 9. ARASHI - In The Summer (+4) 10. mxmtoon - ok on your own (debut)
I'm guessing 32 and 36 are probably Trampoline and Suicidal. 39, 43, 45, 46, 47 and 48 should be a mix of Sum 2 Prove, One Man Band, Even Though I'm Leaving, Hot (chart history says One Man Band, Even Though I'm Leaving and Hot all avoided going recurrent), Bandit & 1 other song (maybe Panini but its chart history didn't update so it could have dropped out).

"only the young" debuting at #50 despite being #1 in sales really shows how little impact they have on the hot 100. i don't think billboard should remove sales since it's at least... something, but it's just sad seeing the numbers get lower and lower each year.

On Feb 9 "Lose Yourself" had 4,000 sales, and the 5 academy awards nominated songs had a combined 5,000 sales.
A Tuneful Increase: In total, all the songs noted above (“Lose Yourself,” the five best original song nominees, and the additional tunes by Monae and others) sold nearly 10,000 downloads on Feb. 9, up 654% from the slightly more than 1,000 sold on Feb. 8.
btw the best original song sold less than 1K.
Adele selling 1,112,000 with "Hello" first week seems like 50 years ago when you look at the numbers. I won't even say anything about the 3.446 million sales in the opening week for Candle In The Wind 97.
"'Vision Of Love', when I first heard that song, I knew it, my mind was made up, I had to be a singer." - Beyonce "When I discovered Mariah Carey and 'Vision of Love,' that was a breath of fresh air. And I adored her from that moment on and idolized her." - Christina Aguilera "I think ['Vision Of Love'] was a vision of the future world of American Idol." - Rich Juzwiak, Slant
