Before jumping into the top 25 this afternoon I want to first showcase a couple of hits compilation albums that were released over the years. The first one I'll be highlighting is 34 Number Ones which was released in November, 2010. This was released to celebrate Jackson's 20-year anniversary since the release of his debut album, Here in the Real World, in 1990. Newly included in the release is his cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" (featuring Lee Ann Womack on background vocals) and Jackson's late-2010 contribution with Zac Brown Band, "As She's Walking Away". "Look at Me", a song which was initially recorded for the soundtrack to Billy: The Early Years, was previously unreleased on a Jackson album.
As some of you know I opted not to include "Ring of Fire" for this rankdown even though it was released as a single from this compilation. While the song did peak at #45, it never did receive an actual push from Arista which is likely attributed to this being his final release for them before moving over to his own label Alan's Country Records (in a joint venture with EMI Nashville). There are a couple of different reasons why I declined to include this, but never fail because this will be featured in an Extras rankdown that will come down the pipe at a later time.

The second hits compilation to showcase is Genuine: The Alan Jackson Story which was exclusively released through Walmart on November 6, 2015. The collection includes 59 recordings from his time with Arista Nashville as well as eight previously unreleased tracks, including a live version of Jackson performing the Eagles' "Seven Bridges Road," a rare live rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner," as well as previously unreleased songs "Born Too Late," "If Tears Could Talk," "Wings," "Seguro Que Hell Yes," "Love Is Hard" and "Ain't Just a Southern Thing."
Of the unreleased songs "Wings" is my favorite of them and I very much would've liked to have seen a song like this included and released from 34 Number Ones over the Johnny Cash cover "Ring of Fire". It would've been interesting to see how "Wings" would've fared in the rankdown amongst his other hits, and speaking for myself I think it very well could've been somewhere within my top 40.

And since I couldn't quite figure out the right time to highlight it let's go ahead and showcase his bluegrass album! Alan released The Bluegrass Album in 2013 via his Alan's Countrty Records/EMI Nashville which debuted at No. 11 on Billboard 200, No. 1 on Bluegrass Albums, and No. 3 on Top Country Albums chart. It includes covers of The Dillards' "There Is a Time", John Anderson's "Wild and Blue" and Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon of Kentucky". Also included is a re-recording of "Let's Get Back to Me and You" from his 1994 album Who I Am, marking the second time Jackson has included two versions of the same song on two different albums.

Alright, it's been a tad bit quiet in here with the last two set of reveals so hopefully y'all perk up a bit as we get closer to the top 20! Here's a few things you can expect as we reveal the next five songs: - Only 15 points separate #25 and #20!
- None of the songs were overly polarizing and one of the five has the 5th lowest deviation
- Cumulatively eight top 10's exit along with three top 5 rankings
- Another participant will join the ranks of those who have lost their top ranking song
- No additional studio albums will be eliminated in this round

In a small town down in Georgia over forty years ago Her maiden name was Musik til she met that Jackson boy They married young like folks did then, not a penny to their name But they believe the one you vow to love Should always stay that same
And on the land his daddy gave him, a foundation under way For a love to last forever or until their dying day They built a bond that's strong enough to stand the test of time And a place for us to turn to when our lives were in a bind 23. “Home”Released: April, 1996 Album: The Greatest Hits Collection Peak Chart Position: #3 Total: 520 Average: 27.37 Std Dev: 10.83 (5th Lowest) {Songs Remaining}Between the Devil and Me Chasin' That Neon Rainbow Chattahoochee Dallas Don't Rock the Jukebox Drive Gone Country Gone Crazy Here In the Real World I'll Try It Must Be Love Little Bitty Little Man Livin' On Love Midnight in Montgomery Monday Morning Church Remember When So You Don't Have to Love Me Anymore Tall, Tall Trees Tonight I Climbed the Wall Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning) Who's Cheatin' Who

Alright, I logged on earlier than I normally would just to follow along with some of these reveals for once ;) "Summertime Blues" is Alan at his most classic! This is not an all-time favorite of mine, partly because the chorus is so underwritten, but mostly because the song has just been so overplayed through the years. Alan has the best version of this song by far though! "Wanted" is a fantastic, amazing, beautiful song for which I had no clue what to expect in this rankdown!! I figured with the slight talking in the verses, and the somewhat dated production, y'all might do this one dirty. But 24 feels like a pretty strong placement!! This was one of the early indicators of just how great Alan had the potential to be ![](http://i.imgur.com/2smy76v.gif) "Home" is pretty good. I am automatically a little biased against it just because songs titled "Home" do not even slightly begin to capture my attention or hold my interest, so every time I see the name written down, especially on a list of all his other songs, it tarnishes any enjoyment I might experience when actually listening to the song. I do think this is one of the better "Home"s in existence in the country world though :)

Wanna know a fun fact? I initially had this as my #1, but made a near last-minute switch in favor of something else that, honestly, I'm surprised is still in. :o Oui, I just looked at my own ranking for "Home" and realized I was the lowest one! That just goes to show you the strength of his catalog because I do like this song, but for whatever reason the admiration that I have for the song and lyrics doesn't quite translate over into the love that some of you share for it. This song of course was originally included on Alan's debut album and I've heard many times that Arista had at one point in time considered releasing "Home" as a single from it, but of course another new artist had just debuted on the scene that same year with a song of the same title. That of course was Joe Diffie who took that song to the top of the charts in late summer 1990.

"Gone Crazy" is one of his best songs. I thought for sure it would find a way to sneak into the top 10, and possibly even be a dark horse contender for the top 5 depending on how polarizing his bigger hits ended up being... Never dreamed it would miss the top 20 altogether ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) There's just something about Alan's vocal performance here that I have always really connected with. He sounds so good!

I'm sure my mom thought where was something wrong with me back in the day since I blasted this on repeat over and over and it's still one that I revisit today. I was really hoping this would find its way into the top 20 and it likely would have if not for ClevelandRox's bottom 5!

Regarding the placements here, I was hoping that "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" would do much better here. It's one of Alan's most iconic hits imo and deserved Top 10 placement. I actually have a memory from growing up where every day that it hit 5:00pm (literally every day, without fail, especially when we were bored enough which was quite often) my aunt and I would sing the song title the same way as Alan sings it at the end of the chorus. Looking back now, I treasure those little memories and it does color my judgment of the song a bit. Thanks for sharing that wonderful memory! As the Kenny Chesney song goes, "We all have a song that somehow stamped our lives, Takes us to another place and time". I think we all can relate to this as I'm sure most of us have more than one song or artist that takes us back to those moments. Alan is one of those artists that I associate mostly with my youth as I grew up watching his videos on CMT and hearing him on country radio. One of my fondest memories is my mom taking me to see him on his Don't Rock the Jukebox tour in the summer of '92. Her and I wanted to get a little closer so we snuck down to the ground level (you sure as heck couldn't do this now) and stood right near where the mixing console/soundboard was. That's just one of many fond memories I have with my mother and I'm grateful for every one of them (speaking of which...don't forget to watch Reba's live streaming concert tonight y'all!). Oh yes, I have quite a few songs that either stamp themselves into the soundtrack of a certain chapter of my life or take me back with memories. "Coat of Many Colors" is one of them as that was my aunt's favorite Dolly song, and Shania's "big three" albums (I'm sure you can guess which ones I mean by that) take me back to my childhood as well as these albums were released as my mom was around my age (when she was 15, 17, and 22) and growing up, it's just about all I heard. In fact, I'd grown to be such a fan of Shania just from hearing her spin those three albums half the time that Shania's Greatest Hits combo was the first CD I ever personally owned...when I was 4! ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif) And for years and years, it was one of the only things I'd listen to. I'd also become a huge fan of Reba thanks to her music being played constantly--particularly "Somebody" which, because of its sentimental value for me, remains my favorite of her discography. In fact, I can thank Mom for my love of country music in general--she's a country junkie! And then as I said there's the soundtrack songs--the ones that got me through things. Taylor Swift's Lover is part of the soundtrack of my freshman year of college, and Carrie Underwood's "Something in the Water" and "Cry Pretty," as I've said a few times now, respectively saved me from...making an irreversible choice (yes I was only 14) and helped me gather up the strength to finally come out as transgender, and that's why Carrie will always be the one I stan the hardest, her music has just meant so much to me my whole life. (Yes, she's also part of the reason I named myself Carrie lol. I did also like the name and felt it fit me and my personality the best)
