USA Today is really bad. I had totally forgotten it and listening to it again was painful. I agree regarding www.memory - it isn’t a bad song BUT it’s so dated that I didn’t really enjoy it compared to most of the others.

Oh, speaking of bologna I completely forgot to ask this question...who here actually still eats this stuff? I don't know about y'all but this is for sure something I used to eat as a kid, but usually my older brother and I would turn it into a fried bologna sandwich. I think the last time I actually had one, though, was four or five years ago down at the beach lol. I don't know if I've ever had it before but the more important question is why is that pronounced like "baloney"?

This was a hard song for me to rank because while I think it’s beautiful it just doesn’t have much replay value for me, especially over all of his other hits. I do feel a bit bad about putting this in my bottom 5, though.

I don't know if I've ever had it before but the more important question is why is that pronounced like "baloney"? Well, considering it’s a sausage made from the “odds and ends” of chicken, turkey, beef, or pork I’m not sure it’s something you’d like lol. As for why it’s said one way over how it’s spelled I’d have to google that haha.

I can get a package of Oscar Mayer for $1.99 and it lasts a few weeks where anything else is double that and half the meat.

I don't think I ever heard "USA Today" or "Sissy's Song" on the radio.

Time to get caught up!!
-I honestly don't dislike "I Still Like Bologna". It's stupid as hell and was a TERRIBLE choice for radio (Seriously, "Never Loved Before" was RIGHT THERE!!!!). Still, it has a little bit of that specific brand of whimsy to it that Alan always manages to infuse into his uptempo work, and the melody is alright. There's just a LOT of competition in this rankdown.
-"It's Alright To Be A Redneck" was an easy last place rank for me. This song is just so grating! It is incredibly obvious to me why this is one of the biggest flops of his career. WWYWTWST is polarizing on Pulse for some reason, but I am like 1,000,000,000% in favor of this one being pulled in favor of the other one...
-"Hard Hat And A Hammer" is just plain not that memorable. It is supposed to be anthemic, the working man's anthem, but isn't quite substantive enough to do that well. In the end, other than "God bless the working man" probably being a line that got people to sign along in concert for a couple years, this song doesn't hold a place among his classics.
-"It's Just That Way" ain't BAD, but it is one of the very few songs in Alan's arsenal that could be described as flat-out boring. I really want to like it, because I enjoy almost 100% of his singles to some extent, but it is like pulling teeth trying to get through this song sometimes. Totally the wrong song, at the wrong time in his career.
-"Country Boy" - I agree with those who do not hate this one as much as the general consensus. Yes, the lyrics are bottom-of-the-barrel for country music, especially coming from Alan Jackson. However, I actually find the melody to be somewhat catchy. I can see why this one was a hit. It's terrible that this is going down as Alan's final #1, but I do not hate it. Still, an easy bottom 5 contender in a catalog as strong as his.

-OMG "Work In Progress" is the first song that I can say got done dirty!!! This is an Alan classic!!! This is one of those songs that was all over the place when I first started listening to country radio regularly in late 2002/early 2003. So it probably comes with a fair boost of nostalgia for me. But still, this is one of those choruses that stays with you! Alan's whimsical personality is on full display as he's trying to tell his wife that The Lord wants her to give him another chance. I definitely don't think this is among his best of all time, but definitely would have placed it somewhere more in the middle of the rankdown. -"Too Much Of A Good Thing" - Another song that was everywhere shortly after I became invested in country radio! This song definitely isn't all that special, but like many of his big hits it comes with a ton of nostalgia. I definitely would choose the majority of the other huge hits from this time period over this one though. -Gonna have to disagree with those who are fawning over "www.memory" This song just does NOT work. The references are hella dated, as was mentioned, but that is not in and of itself a reason to dislike this song. The melody is clunky and cluttered as all get out, with the phrasing of the title being incredibly weird to try to put into a song. The whole thing just tries SO hard to sound hip and with-the-times, and instead falls apart into a contrived mess. And how annoying is it that nobody can type the title correctly?! (See austin earlier somehow turning it into a whole ass hyperlink that goes nowhere, tim listing it as "www . memory" in the OP, etc. Not to mention my OCD middle-school ass not knowing whether I should put it in iTunes as "WWW.Memory" or "Www.memory" to satisfy capitalization rules, or if I should just suck it up and have it be the only song in my entire library with no capitalization...) Good riddance, tbh. He was on a HOT streak for most of the '90s and '00s, but this was one of his very first missteps imo... Judging by the final placement, it seems like most people seem to agree with me. -"USA Today" is a great song, but for some reason it feels like one of those hits that made zero impact whatsoever. I honestly do not remember hearing it on the radio even once, despite the heavy play that every other song from this time period managed to pick up. It may have been a top 20 hit, but honestly feels like one of his few flops. The fact that I do not have any memory of this song whatsoever always makes me forget that it exists, and I inevitably hold it in lower esteem against the bulk of his singles than it might deserve. "Sissy's Song" is beautiful...but also a terrible single. For the longest time I could never remember how it went. It does NOT feel like a top 10 hit to me, because I can only remember ever hearing it on radio a couple of times. Again, "Never Loved Before" was RIGHT THERE......

I had totally forgotten that the Yes, Dear guys were in the video for "Talking Song Repair Blues". Fun video, fun song, just not sure why they released it as a single.

Wut? That's the first song from the 90's to fall? "Right On The Money" is a total jam. Pulse really doesn't like Alan's whimsical songs, even the actually clever ones.
