Hello and welcome to a thread meant to promote good taste in music and open the gates to music that is often very underrated and overlooked for a multitude of reasons We all have seen songs that are amazing be largely ignored by radio, streamers, and the general public at large It happens way too often given that the overall general public's taste in music is garbage As everyone who probably knows me on Pulse, I often venture into the Random Thoughts threads trying to promote underrated artists every here and there. So I had the thought as to why not translate that idea into something bigger, so that is the goal of this thread This thread is a review thread to celebrate and take a look at songs that have been left in the dust and have went past the ears of many listeners. Important Notes:1. All songs I review will be songs that received not so much to no chart success on the Hot 100 2. Additionally, anyone is free to recommend songs for me to review in this thread and I will try to get to them as thoroughly as I can. 3. I will on a daily basis post an underrated song in here, and if I happen to get enough several songs suggested I might do one suggested review on a daily basis as well. 4. If you would like to be tagged for this, let me know and I will immediately add you on the Tags list. Anyways lets get to celebrating underrated, overlooked, BOPS! I will posting today's song shortly afterwards, stay tuned folks Tags (I'm gonna tag a few folks who might be interested, if you want to be untagged let me know) : Normi born Mylo13 π beach1 Choco .indulgecountry Crimsonio deepston BBπ Sambalada walt91 surfy fearlessarrow @jadenlefranks

Underrated Bop of 3/15/2020: Lana Del Rey - "Diet Mountain Dew"
Released: June 13, 2011 Album/EP: Born To Die Genre: R&B, Trip-hop
Background: Released in June of 2011 as the first promo single for Lana's second album "Born To Die", and it is the 5th track on the record. Lyrically the song is about the desire of wanting to stay in a relationship that is no good for Lana and lyrically it's a back and forth about the complications of the toxic relationship. Lana wrote the song while in New York City on a walk and the song itself does make reference to New York City in it's chorus, probably to emphasize the fast life that is going on between Lana and her lover similar to the busy crowded ass streets of NYC. The song also to me has this classic old-timey charm in it that just makes it very appealing to me.
Rating: 10/10, I think this song is the true pinnacle of Born To Die for me and I think it captures everything I love about Lana. The sultry smooth vibe, the clever writing and references, and the overall charm of the track makes it one of top favorite songs from Lana of all time alongside Doin' Time, Ride, and Body Electric.
Anyways that's the first underrated overlooked bop, if you have any song suggestions do let me know and I will get to them as soon as possible. Enjoy your day and thank you for reading!

Requested Bop of 3/15/2020 - Suggested by @jadenlefranks Daya - "Insomnia" Released: March 8, 2019 Album/EP: TBA? Genre: Trance-pop, Electropop
Chart Success: #10 Czech Republic #12 Norway #22 New Zealand #27 Lithuania #79 Ireland
Background: Released a little over a year ago, this song is a trancy electropop track that lyrically is about being unable to sleep due to an absent lover. The trance influences on this track is in due part into the common fact that people usually stay raving and partying up all night long and this song captures the feeling of insomnia in multiple ways. Daya sings about a lover who is gone but the lost relationship is affecting her and keeping her from sleeping due to her desire to have her lover back. I stumbled upon this song many months after its release and it quickly became one of my most played songs of 2019. The production and melody of this track is infectiously catchy and it was my go to nighttime track. The production of this song especially on the chorus reminds me of Britney Spears - "I Wanna Go" and that is a song I absolutely love. I love Daya's direction in sound after her debut album which was very boring and generic pop, ever since her track "New" she has taken a more electro and synth pop route which is working well. This song is easily the best thing she has done thus far imo and I hope we get an album in the vein of this.
Rating: 10/10 This sound is so up my ally and the lyrics are relatable for me cause I played this often on my sleepless nights which were very frequent. If you like this I definitely check out her other recent songs like Older, Left Me Yet, and Wanted. Funnily enough I was considering this as one of the songs for me to launch this thread with this morning but decided against it. So when I saw j.franks suggest it in a message he sent amongst 3 other songs, I immediately gravitated towards this one.

Underrated Bop of 3/16/2020BANKS - "Gemini Feed"Released: August 3, 2016 Album/EP: The Altar Genre: Electropop, Alt-pop
Chart Success: #86 Australia #25 US Hot Rock Songs
Background: The second single of her 2nd album "The Altar" is one of Jillian's more electronica influenced offerings. I consider this song the pinnacle of it's parent record given that it is the opening track and the first line directly mentions the title of the album. Lyrically the song is about an emotionally abusive relationship and how Banks feels like she is lessening herself to be in a manipulative relationship where her lover is trying to put her beneath him. It directly is in reference to her last album titled "Goddess" and is saying that she is bigger than this relationship. The name of the song is mentioned in the second verse and is meant to represen the idea of Geminis, aka twins. Banks is a Gemini herself and the relationship is a Gemini feed because of all the issues, both her and her lover are both depressed hence the line "we were so depressive" being repeatedly emphasized in the second pre chorus. The song overall is about recognizing self-worth and when to acknowledge that a relationship simply has lost it all and become emotionally abusive.
Rating: 10/10. The emotional impact this song has on me is conveyed by fantastic songwriting that just speaks to me. The melody of the song also is so captivating and her wordplay over the production is what makes the song for me. This was my introduction to Banks when I was randomly checking new music on YouTube back in that August. I immediately fell in love with it and it has remained my favorite from Banks. If you like this song, definitely check out all 3 of her albums, I recommend starting with these songs if anything: Better, Beggin For Thread, Trainwreck, and Drowning.

Underrated Bop of 3/17/2020:Halsey & Lido - "Tokyo Narita - Freestyle"Released: May 6, 2016 Album/EP: N/A Genre: Alt-pop Background: A one-off collaboration single released in 2016 in between Badlands (2015) and HFK (2017), being a collab with Norwegian producer and Halsey's then boyfriend Lido. This song is lyrically mostly about their relationship and why they split, the two previously worked together as Lido produced the majority of her debut album Badlands. Also a lot of what is being sung is transpired at the Vogue party prior to that year's Met Gala. This song also is a freestyle in the sense that this came out 4 days after the Met Gala, the name of the song is also referring to the Tokyo Narita Airport , Halsey at the time was in Japan for the Badlands Tour. The song while being about the breakup between Halsey and Lido, they have stayed good friends since then. Rating: 10/10 I personally love this song cause I love the personal songwriting that contains several references to various things that I picked up on, including a reference to her song "Drive" from Badlands. I still like the simple melody that still meshes well with the song and how it lyrically shows the down spiraling of the relationship while feeling stripped down and personal as she specifically is talking a very particular moment of time. I also commend that this is a freestyle and how it holds up very well. I find it to be one of the best songs Halsey has put out and I come back to it very often. Underrated Bop of 3/18/2020Ryn Weaver - "Travelling Song" Released: June 16, 2015 Album/EP: The Fool Genre: Soft rock, Folk
Background: The 9th track on her debut album "The Fool", the song is a tribute to her late grandfather which is the only stripped-down track on the album. Weaver herself says the overarching message of the song is "about moving along and the nostalgia we hold for the people who taught us what we know." The song is very similar to a song Stevie Nicks would released given it was very folk and soft rock influences, the outro to the song removes all production and is a mini sung speech. The rest of her debut album has electronic production work but this song, which is produced by Benny Blanco and Michael Angelakos from Passion Pit, does the great job of showing variety in sound for Weaver and it definitely sticks out beautifully on the album for that reason.
Rating: 10/10 I am a suck for personal songs that have writing that isn't direct and tells a story through clever means and references. Songs in dedication to those are no longer with us are some of the most emotional pieces of music that exist and this song one hits close to home for me. My grandmother passed away in early 2016 and this song gravitated to me so well and I gained a whole new appreciation for the song and the realization that we should cherish the time we have with our elders and celebrate there lives in our mind until we see them again. Very few songs honestly hit me emotionally and soften my cold heart but this song just makes me melt. I could listen to it endlessly, it's such a beautifully written song and it is the standout track from The Fool for me. To anyone who has never heard any songs from Ryn Weaver, I highly recommend checking this out and her whole album.

Underrated Bop of 3/24/2020 Disclosure ft Lorde - "Magnets"Release Date: September 23, 2015 Album/EP: Caracal Genre: Electropop
Chart Success: #2 New Zealand #14 Australia #36 Belgium #49 Slovakia #58 Canada #63 Scotland #64 Ireland #71 UK #74 Netherlands #87 France #2 Bubbling Under Hot 100
Background: The 4th single from British electro duo Disclosure's from their 2nd album "Caracal", the song was a success in New Zealand and Australia primarily due to Lorde being from New Zealand hence she has a huge following in the country. The song didn't really do too much in Europe and America though which is a darn shame. I do believe they never pushed this to pop radio in the US, they only pushed Omen as the only single to pop radio from the album. So it's failure to chart isn't very surprising. The song lyrically isn't really anything to write home about in terms of a message, lyrically it is about getting into an affair that even know you know it's wrong, you just can't help but give into it hence the repetition of the line "let's embrace the point of no return". One interesting thing about the song lyrically is that she only mentions the title in the first verse when she compares her feelings to that of magnets melting. If you know anything about magnets when they melt, they actually lose all magnetic properties, I have no clue if the line was meant to be taken into such a context aside from just being a magnetic attraction.
Rating: 10/10 When I first heard this song it just felt hypnotic to me, I couldn't really pick up on exactly why either. I think I love the sleek production combined with Lorde's vocals on the track, it just feels so seductive altogether and I just love it. It became my favorite song from Lorde at that point, though Lorde eventually would deliver the holy divination that is Melodrama to knock this song aside. If you like this song, definitely check out more from Disclosure probably including this album. Good Intentions, Nocturnal, Hourglass, Omen, and a bunch of other songs on Caracal are really good. Some other Dislcosure produced tracks you should definitely check out include Heal by Ellie Goulding. And if you haven't looked into Lorde's music so far, listen to both of her albums thus far, they are fantastic.

Underrated Bop of 3/25/2020Rita Ora ft Tinie Tempah - "R.I.P"Released: May 6, 2012 Album/EP: Ora Genre: R&B, Dubstep
Chart Success: #1 UK #1 Scotland #10 Australia #11 Ireland #26 Denmark #28 New Zealand #36 Germany #44 Belgium #46 Switzerland #51 Austria #64 Slovakia #89 Netherlands #1 US Bubbling Under Hot 100 #19 US Rhytmic #28 US Mainstream Top 40
Background: This Drake penned originally was intended for none other than Rihanna, which is funny cause the song garnered many Riri comparisons. This Stargate produced track was Rita's second single following the success of "How We Do (Party)" and was an out the gate smash in the UK where it debuted at #1 being her third single to achieve the peak position and also was her third release following her feature on DJ Fresh's "Hot Right Now" and her own previously mentioned debut single. The song is a very dubstep synthy track and being put out as her first track that exudes a confident side.
Rating: 9/10 This alongside "Radioactive" were the two songs that introduced me to Rita and I instantly loved this song, Stargate's production and Rita's vocals just worked well on this song. It very much reminded me of something from Riri's Talk That Talk which makes sense given that this was at one point for Riri. It isn't my favorite song from Rita but it is one I think definitely is very overlooked. I had a major toss up between using this or Radioactive, I settled on this one. If you enjoyed this, check out more from Rita such as Radioactive, Roc The Life, Love and War, Poison, and Let Me Love You as some tracks to get into her. "Magnets" is incredible and got me into Disclosure. I don't know if you like more alternative-leaning music but "London Grammar" are my favorite band ever and they have an incredible song with Disclosure ("Help Me Lose My Mind"). It's not a bop, per say and it's more alternative but it's still worth checking IMO! #ShamelessPromo

Underrated Bop of 3/29/2020Jason Derulo - "Cheyenne" Released: May 29, 2015 Album/EP: Everything Is 4 Genre: Funk-pop, Synth-pop
Chart Success: #1 Israel #6 Belgium #12 Hungary #14 Lebanon #25 Australia #42 Canada #66 US Billboard Hot 100 #18 US Mainstream Top 40 #85 Ireland #184 UK
Background: The second single off Everything Is 4 and being the follow up to the global smash that was "Want To Want Me", the song is synth funk-pop track that is very reminiscent in style to Taylor Swift's "Style". Lyrically the song is about Derulo falling for someone who originally he just wanted to have some fun with. I am completely baffled at the fact that this didn't do damage anywhere, it even flopped in the UK peaking at #184. The song was easily the best thing on Everything Is 4 and was the follow up to huge hit. Unfortunately the stars didn't align for Cheyenne, but somehow it did for f**king Get Ugly but that's a whole other rant for another day.
Rating: 10/10 The 80s groovy pop influence works completely on me and Derulo sounds great on this, I see nothing not to love. I personally am not a huge fan of Derulo but he usually releases one song every here and there that I gravitate to. In the past it was In My Head, The Other Side, and this is a song that fits right in. I also absolutely love the music video for this song, it's basically a horror movie influenced video and it works well completely with the lyrics. Underrated Bop of 4/2/2020Maren Morris - "I Could Use a Love Song"Released: June 3, 2016 Album/EP: Hero Genre: Country Ballad
Chart Success: #56 US Billboard Hot 100 #1 US Country Airplay
Background: The 3rd single off Morris's debut album Hero, the song is ballad that lyrically is about being jaded about love but also the optimism in believing a love song song can reignite her faith in love. The song's title and creation was inspired when Morris was mostly done with her debut record and in a studio session the idea of the album using a love song was pitched to her hence the title's inspiration.
Rating: 10/10 For me, this is my favorite song from Morris thus far, the lyrics on this I just absolutely love. "Now that magic rush, feels like a trick that isn't working", the songs lyrics are simple but I find a charm in them. I'm a suck for well done ballads and this is one of them, it doesn't feel cheesy, forced, or cliche. It is on the simple side but sometimes simple works quite well. If you like this song definitely check out more from Morris like The Bones, Once, Great Ones, etc. Tags: Normi born Mylo13 π beach1 Choco .indulgecountry Crimsonio deepston BBπ Sambalada walt91 surfy fearlessarrow @jadenlefranks DistrictTwelve If you have ANY suggestions feel free to write them in this thread or in a personal message to me and I will get to them when I can, thank you for following along with me on our journey for great music!

Underrated Bop of April 4th, 2020Axwell /\ Ingrosso - "More Than You Know" Released: May 27, 2017 Album/EP: More Than You Know Genre: EDM
Chart Success: #1 Austria #1 Germany #1 Czech Republic #1 Poland #1 Romania #2 Latvia #2 Sweden #2 Switzerland #2 Slovenia #3 Hungary #4 Italy #4 Finland #4 Belgium #4 Norway #4 Russia #6 Croatia #9 Israel #10 Ireland #13 US Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic #14 Netherlands #22 New Zealand #24 Portugal #30 UK #38 Spain #41 Australia #45 Scotland #46 France #52 Canada
Background: The title track of their debut album, More Than You Know is by Swedish DJ duo Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso, both of whom are members of Swedish House Mafia, mostly well known to everyone for the worldwide hit "Don't You Worry Child". The vocals on this song are by Kristoffer Fogelmark who is uncredited. The song was a pretty big international EDM hit, that as always the US slept on which is a damn shame.
Rating: 10/10 I am huge fan of Swedish House Mafia and I have checked out lots of songs from all of it's members different projects. This song is definitely my favorite from Axwell & Ingrosso, lyrically it isn't anything special but I love Kristoffer's vocals over the amazing production work. Most of the best production in music for the last like 30 years or more have come from Swedish producers, and this is one of those cases. I just can't help but party to this song in my own living room when I am bored, it just feels euphoric to me personally.

Background: The 3rd single off Marina's 4th album, the track is a tropical summery pop track that is an ode to Lefkada, an island off the coast of mainland Greek over the Ionian Sea. The song is dedicated entirely to her love to the island for it is where she was born and raised, how she finds peace and freedom being in a familiar setting, and how it just eases her altogether.
Rating: 8/10 My personal feelings on this song is that it is a delightful pop number that begs to be played in the summer. I love how personal the track is while also lyrically still being relatively simple. I absolutely love Marina and have been following her since Electra Heart, which is one of my favorite albums ever. The issue I have with this though alongside relatively most of Love + Fear, it felt a little generic at times and just wasn't grabbing me like all her other 3 albums did. I rarely ever actively sought out any tracks from Love + Fear but not a single song on there was bad at all. I do find this track mostly charming only cause of the lyrics and Marina's voice, but the overall melody wasn't so memorable aside from the Oh-oh-oh-orange hook. I definitely still do enjoy the song but I am not so latched onto itTags: Normi born Mylo13 π beach1 Choco .indulgecountry Crimsonio deepston BBπ Sambalada walt91 surfy fearlessarrow @jadenlefranks DistrictTwelve If you have ANY suggestions feel free to write them in this thread or in a personal message to me and I will get to them when I can, thank you for following along with me on our journey for great music!
