at #5 is "New Way (To Light Up An Old Flame)". This is one of those songs that was kinda just there for me when I was younger but about 10 or so years ago I listened to this song again for the first time since the 90s and absolutely loved it and it has only grown on me to become one of my favorites from him. Super happy to see this make it to the top 5!
Hope everyone is around to comment throughout the day because I will sporadically post the remaining 4 throughout the day so be ready to see how this ends!

"New Way (To Light Up An Old Flame)" is one of those singles that represents the '90s so well. I agree that it didn't used to be a favorite of mine, but as time has gone by I have only come to love it more and more. I am thrilled with this top 5 finish.
Also I must say I was rather shocked to see "Ships That Don't Come In" bow out when it did. I kinda thought it might be a contender to sneak in a win as his more well-known songs like "Beatles", "Pickup Man", etc. would prove to be more polarizing due to overplay.
I am THRILLED to see "A Night To Remember" hanging on and making a dent in his all-time biggest hits!!! That is such a powerful song, that I honestly only expected to be in the top 15 or so because it doesn't strike me as being as well-remembered as something like "Jukebox", "John Deere", etc.
Edit: Well that aged well.

"A Night To Remember" immediately jumped up to the top of his discography the moment I heard it. When I randomly bought his 16 Biggest Hits album like 10 years ago, every single song had me like "This song is so good", but then when this song started I immediately stopped in my tracks and hung on every word. The arrangement is less dated than a lot of his early hits, as it still sounds like it could be right at home on a 00s country playlist, and he turns in quite possibly the best vocal performance of his entire career. I love the way the whole song seems to reach an epic frenzy in the chorus, just from the way the arrangement is put together. Like I said a couple posts ago, I would have been happy to see this in the top 15, so to see it make top 4 feels so good!!! I never thought it would infiltrate the ranks of his most beloved songs, and that I would be kinda alone in my extreme love for it! Now I can't help but wonder how well it would have finished if it hadn't been for LBTrocks! I mean, for EVERYBODY to put it in their top 11?! I feel like it could have had a legitimate chance of winning or at least being in the top 2

For the three songs that are left, I have absolutely no idea what to expect. I think I will go ahead and predict "John Deere Green" for #3, just because it is overplayed to the same extend as "Beatles" and "Pickup Man". But honestly, an argument could be made for it to win this whole thing too!
I guess I will go with this: 3. "John Deere Green" 2. "Prop Me Up Beside The Jukebox" 1. "Third Rock From The Sun"

"She walks into Smokey's one hip at a time Like a broken field runner slippin' through the lines He likes the way she looks so he calls a little wife says don't wait up for me, I'll be workin late tonight. Wife hangs up the phone bursts into tears calls her sister up and cries get over here.
Sister tells her boyfriend be back in awhile boyfriend wants a beer, the store is just a mile. Leaves the motor runnin' he'll only be a minute, his car drives away with teenagers in it. Driver tells his buddies, got one life to live they scream into the night, lets get it over with.

Well that couldn't have gone any better for me! LBTrocks thank you Flops for allowing my favorite to win! "Third Rock from the Sun" is far and away my favorite from him, and always has been. The production is so catchy, the melody is PERFECTION, and the lyrics are absolutely hilarious. The entire 'event' that takes place over the course of the song and the amount of detail put into the description of everything is a masterpiece, honestly. It really paints a picture.

I went into this rankdown not really knowing what song would land at the top of my list. As I continued to listen to the songs and make adjustments to my list I found that I kept coming back around to “New Way (To Light Up an Old Flame)” again and again. I honestly hadn’t even heard this song in ages, but somewhere in my brain all these childhood memories started coming back to me when I listened to that song and it made me remember just how much I loved this one back then. This song pretty much represents everything I loved about country music in the ‘90s and I’m thrilled seeing that y’all seemed to enjoy it just as much as myself. “A Night to Remember” always stood out to me as a potential song that could win the rankdown and so it’s a shame that it had to be sent out of the top two at the last minute because this was the only song where everyone dang near put it in their top ten. I myself put it just outside of that if only because my list was already stacked and I just couldn’t find room to put it in there, but this has certainly aged quite well and still manages to fit in with country radio today. While I had predicted that “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die)” would land in the top 3, I never actually thought that it would get enough support to go for the win. This is another song that has gone on to define Joe’s career and one that I look back on fondly. I really couldn’t put it any higher than I did if only because I’ve heard it so many times since my childhood that I usually just now hit skip whenever I hear it, but even then I couldn’t fathom not putting this in my top ten. I don’t know why I’m surprised to see “John Deere Green” make it into the top two, but I guess I just had this thought that it might be a bit more on the polarizing side of his early hits. I’m glad I was wrong, though, because this has been a longtime favorite of mine and I was so frustrated with myself for not being able to find room in my top five for it. I still jam out to this whenever I hear it on the radio lol. “Third Rock From the Sun” is very deserving of the win and it seems well-liked across the board as we all put it in our top 15. This is classic Joe and is yet again one of many songs he recorded that only someone like him could pull off convincingly. Thanks for taking this on, castleoblivion26 , as I had so much fun revisiting songs that I grew up with that brought back some great childhood memories!

I love "Third Rock From The Sun" so I am beyond happy that it was able to win. I do wish that "A Night To Remember" had at least stayed in the top 2 so it could be in the next Revenge of the best rankdown but it wasn't to be.
Thank you everyone for participating. I did enjoy doing this one and revisiting Joe's music. He's someone I've always wanted to spend time listening to some of his music that I've never heard before and this was the perfect opportunity.

Oh wow, thank goodness I came in and saved the day by bumping "A Night To Remember" out of the #1 spot cuz what a shame it would have been to have that beat out the epic jam that is "Third Rock From The Sun." That song is quintessential Joe and is such a JAM! Fantastic instrumentation and melody and fun lyrics! Glad it is #1, exactly where it belongs. That said, I do like "A Night To Remember" too but I love so many Joe Diffie songs, so some songs I still like had to be lower. Anyway, thanks for hosting castleoblivion26. This was so fun and a great way to honor Joe <3

Third Rock From the Sun is such a iconic jam, but I just assumed it would be too polarizing to win. Happy to be proven wrong, though I would have been more happy if the masterpiece that is "A Night To Remember" hadn't been tanked at the last moment... Still, it was an amazing improvement from "Third Rock's" first rankdown performance, where it didn't even crack the top 50 and finished like 30 spots behind "John Deere Green", in the 1994 rankdown.
