Sabi on Drop Dead Beautiful is a useless verse ok but "steaming like a pot full of vegetables" is the most important lyric of the 2010's

How has no one mentioned Rihanna on Believe It yet? Her first track in years and it's mostly background vocals? 💀 The Jonas Brothers are also on that Runaway Spanish song for like 20 seconds. Cardi B is an entire afterthought on South of the Border and her verse doesn't even really add rhythmic or Latin appeal either since Camila already covers both. I'm still completely baffled on why not one, but TWO tracks on Meghan Trainor's new album are old songs with guest vocalists just singing her original verses. Genetics with The Pussycat Dolls and After You with AJ Mitchell add nothing to their originals. Especially Genetics. After You I could maybe understand since it sort of turns it into a love song duet and AJ has had some recent airplay success, but The Pussycat Dolls don't add anything to Genetics that Meghan didn't already cover and they are a draw to a Meghan Trainor song for like 3 people max. Big Freedia is just a hype man on Kesha's Raising Hell. She needed her own verse. Bonus: the opposite of this. DJ Khaled is completely pointless on the overwhelming majority of "his" songs. I used to feel that way about "Genetics" ft PCD as well until I saw a little thing of Nicole recording her parts for it. At first I could barely tell they/Nicole was on the track but now I can hear her parts more clearly. It could probably do without the PCD's since they seemed to lower Nicole's mic anyways. lol But I now like their contribution now after seeing the "making" of their sections. SO agree about Big Freedia. Not sure why she didn't get a verse.

ok but "steaming like a pot full of vegetables" is the most important lyric of the 2010's That line was a CHOICE "steaming like a pot full of vegetables" "your body looks so sick i think i caught the flu" "i don't need your money, i just want your D" "cause, what I'm looking at right now would make a big girl cry" the entire song is a damn mess

- Lil Jon on Do You Remember - MØ on Cold Water - everyone featured on Old Town Road remixes except Billy Ray Cyrus - Selena Gomez on Taki Taki (I love Selena on this but her verse seems so insignificant near the end of the song) - Migos on Bon Appetit - Christina Aguilera on Moves Like Jagger - any song with a DJ being featured (it always annoyed me how on some songs the DJ (producer) is featured but not on others (We Found Love, Break Free) - Skip Marley on Chained To The Rhythm (another feature I love but seems so insignificant near the end of the song

Dj Khalad on Dinero. Also Mikky Ekko on Rihanna's Stay. That song would of done just as well and been perfectly fine if he wasn't featured.

My take on this thread are songs with a featured artists whose contributions are limited. Are you saying producers and DJs aren’t contributing to these songs?

I've seen her perform it live multiple times solo and until I listen to the studio version I half forget he is even on it. That's why I think it's pointless.

They’re contributing, I just don’t know why they have to be credited as a feature. It’s not like Max Martin is credited on songs he produces i.e. “Ariana Grande feat. Max Martin”. Plus, there are songs that Zedd and Calvin Harris produced that they’re not featured on (Where Have You Been, G.U.Y., Never Really Over) while the ones I mentioned previously, they are featured. It doesn’t make sense to me.

The first thing that popped into my head was Missy on "Burnitup!" It's not enough that the song sucked, but her verse was a bunch of nonsense and added nothing. Even she admitted it.

Cheryl Cole on the remix of will.i.am and Nicki's "Check It Out" She only adds backing vocals and in the video for the remix they just poorly edited Cheryl into the original video's scenes
It's pretty hilarious

Gwen Stefani feat. Akon "The Sweet Escape".
I guess he was featured on it because he produced it and his songs and his features were very successful at the time.

Speaking of Akon, Eminem sounds like he's bored on his verse on "Smack That," particularly with the lyric "In fact, he's the one singing this song (Akon)!"

Paul McCartney being featured on FourFiveSeconds and only having two (2) lines, which are arguably backing vocals, feels like an unnecessary waste of his talent and like an excuse to shoehorn him in as minimally as possible to make it even more of a superstar collab than it already was without much effort. (And yes, I'm aware he also plays guitar on that song. But if it was just him playing guitar without any lines at all, he most likely wouldn't have been a featured artist on it. And to feature one of the most successful artists of all time and limit him to just guitar and backing vocals is like featuring Jay Z and limiting him to ad libs.)

Lady Gaga ft. Colby O'Donnis - Just Dance Ironically in retrospect, Colby O'Donis had a substantial hit ("What You Got", which featured Akon) before Gaga. But the "Just Dance" feature is probably all that many (most?) know him for now.

I love Janelle Monae and am glad "We Are Young" brought her some awards and such, but her feature on that song borders on pointless for sure.

I think that part of the song is essential and wouldn’t hit as well without a sweeter, lighter, probably female voice singing those lines.

I dont know if this has been said...Christina on Moves Like Jagger...Maroon 5 was doing charity work by having her on there. The song would've been a hit with or without her.
