Goes to show that CHR wants everything to conform to one universally accepted "sound" as opposed to being a mixture of different, unique voices, regardless of the genre. That's basically the whole idea behind every genre. You wouldn't expect Country or Urban to play a mixture of different voices regardless of genre either.

The term "pop music" originated from the word "potpourri". CHR is supposed to play the ultimate mix of music from every genre that exists. The idea that CHR, or Pop music itself, should be its own genre is one of the dumbest things about the industry that took hold in the 2010's. This has resulted in the homogenization of pop radio and affected every genre of music for the worse, as everything has to sound "pop" (whatever the hell that is supposed to mean) in order to cross over. I hope this misconception of what CHR is supposed to be dies a brutal death this decade, and as soon as possible.

Anyway, this should go top 20, at least, on both Pop and Hot AC as the #1 is almost but guaranteed on Alternative.

Pop music is a genre that ebbs and flows in style like every other genre, and CHR plays music that falls into that wide spectrum, and whatever trends fit into that spectrum changes all the time. Rock isn't popular. Sorry? I don't know what to tell you. Rock just isn't what CHR listeners want right now, so a much poppier song* will obviously get more suppory here. I mean, come on, it's not rocket science. *The fact that you can grasp that this song is poppier than their last album but then go on to say "whatever the hell that is supposed to mean" when referring to the pop genre is laughably hypocritical. You're not stupid, you know what pop is. Hell, you of all people should understand this concept coming from the alternative section. You want to talk about a vague and ever changing genre and radio format, there you fucking go.
Now for the real reason I came into this thread. The "tell me it's alright, tell me it's okay" part sounds exactly like the "show me how to love, show me where to start" line in Natalia Kills's "Activate My Heart," and I've been struggling to place that part for days now! Also the production is similar to this: and that's one of the most unintentionally hilarious things ever omg. I really enjoy this. Their first song from them I've genuinely enjoyed since "Doubt."

This is looking to be their first single to become a hit since Heathens. I hope the longevity lasts so maybe it can eventually reach top 10.

#23 on the Hot 100, it's their highest-charting entree since Heathens.

Letβs hope it becomes a hit! #23 on the Hot 100 does make it a confirmed hit as it's in the top 40 of the chart. Now we just need to see it make the top 10 and become a bonafide mainstream smash.

Yes, like the confirmed hit "Thinking of You" by Katy Perry or the bonafide mainstream smash "Do I Make You Proud" by Taylor Hicks!

Multi-format smash! and good to see that huge Hot AC reception! This all reminds me of Imagine Dragon's comeback with Believer (altough I Bet My Life still did well on HAC).

Oh wow I didnβt realize this got so big on pop radio. This kind of gives me a βRideβ vibe and will fit really well on the airwaves this spring/summer.

I'm not sure why everyone is so shocked that this is getting big updates. It had a first-day airplay deal, of course stations are going to keep playing it afterward. Every song with a first-day deal is able to ride the wave for a little bit

Every song with a first-day deal is able to ride the wave for a little bit Iβm not sure why people wouldnβt be surprised? Twenty One Pilots have not had a Top 20 CHR/Pop hit since 2016. I think thatβs pretty good reason to be surprised.

degen This had a deal. If it didnβt have a deal and got this level of support, Iβd be shocked. However, all songs will deals peak at least ok. βThe Other Sideβ isnβt really doing much on any platforms, but it got a first day deal and ultimately reached #16. Alicia Keys hasnβt had a pop hit in ~8 years, but βUnderdogβ (which had a first day deal) still made the Top 30.

degen The two songs I mentioned both had little longevity (well, βUnderdogβ is picking up again). This song is about to spend its second week on the Hot 100. We donβt know if it will have any longevity at all. A radio deal doesnβt automatically mean a song will be a hit, like you said. When it reaches the teens and likely stalls, weβll see how it will actually do. Callouts & streaming stability will play a big part. I want it to do well, but I am definitely skeptical. Their past 3 pop singles all underperformed compared to their last few. I donβt want to get too excited.

i think what's important to note is that in addition to the deal, this is actually selling/streaming super well, which is something none of their Trench singles had going for them. this wouldn't be moving up as quickly as it was without the radio deal, but it would be still be doing well and this is almost certainly gonna have some longevity apart from it too
