That's a good interview. Here's the (main) parts pertaining to life and the music.

Though fans have come to know Clarkson more intimately through her talk show, there’s one topic that she’s not planning to open up about anytime soon: her divorce. In June, Clarkson filed for divorce from her country music manager husband, Brandon Blackstock, after nearly seven years of marriage. They have two kids together in addition to Blackstock’s two children from his previous marriage.

“I am a very open person, but I’m not going to be able to be truly open about this in certain aspects because there’s kids involved,” she says. “I think that I will navigate a way in which to be open and honest about it eventually, probably via the show, and it’ll probably, I’m assuming, happen organically when someone says something in conversation or something. It definitely wouldn’t be planned. But my children and his older children — there are a lot of little hearts involved in this and while people feel, ‘Oh my gosh, what a loss ...’ imagine how it is in the epicenter of the storm. It’s a lot to process and deal with, just as a family. So because it’s not just me, I probably won’t go too deep with it.”

What comes through in her music is another story. While the Grammy-winning songstress, like most musicians, had to hit pause on some of her musical endeavors this year — namely, postponing the launch of her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood — she hasn’t stopped writing. And she’s sure some will read between the lines about her split in the new album she’s working on.

“It’s funny, I actually told my therapist recently, ‘I have no idea how one goes through any kind of huge life change, like a divorce, that doesn’t have some kind of an outlet,’” says Clarkson, whose last album was 2017’s “Meaning of Life.” “I am very lucky. Even from my childhood, my mom told me I had a problem expressing my emotions and all these things when I was really young and that I should start writing. So that’s me expressing it. I usually leave it in the songs and that’s usually my therapy.

“It’s just like people dealing with the pandemic,” she continues. “Some days are fine, you’re laughing about it and there’s comedic things about it — in a dark comedy kind of way — but then there are other times that are so low that you just don’t know if you’re going to get picked back up. And then there’s other times when you’re like, ‘OK, fresh start.’ ... I’m incapable of not incorporating it into my music because that is my outlet.”

Clarkson, who says she was “more shocked than anyone” by reports of Telegdy’s behavior, didn’t directly address “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” allegations, but she acknowledges that the recent attention to Hollywood’s workplace culture has reaffirmed a lesson she first learned at church camps and on student council as a child: As a leader, “How you act is how all those beneath you are going to feel like they’re allowed to act.

“Accountability is so important,” she says. “Everybody messes up. Everybody’s allowed to mess up. We are imperfect; that’s OK. But it’s not OK to pretend it’s not happening. ... I’m the first one in the room to go, ‘Was that me? Did I do it?’ Or, ‘How can I fix it?’”

I'm not surprised that the reason we have not heard more about the divorce is due to kids being involved. This is also the first time she has ever differentiated between her kids and Brandon's kids. Normally, she has always grouped them together as "their kids" or say "our two youngest kids and our older kids". Probably reading too much into it, but that part stood out in the interview.

I guess they are referring to her comment about how everything comes from the top and she exhibits the behavior she wants her employees to also display. I didn’t think it was as outright as someone said here but it could be taken that way, for sure. Knowing Kelly, she could be oblivious to all this Ellen gossip. She’s had plenty going on.

I'm going to guess she knows what's been going on because it could end up benefitting her show a lot and I can't imagine it not being talked about around the office. Even if it's just opening up the discussion of conduct around there, if they hadn't already. The Telegdy ouster is a pretty big one for her too, he was her guy there at NBC.

She looks absolutely phenomenal. One day, I’d love to get a tell-all book from her. From Idol to Clive Davis to her relationship with Blackstock, I just feel like it’d be an incredibly interesting memoir.

Her Alanis impression. Wow. She has the most incredible musical ear.

Super thoughtful of her to stay private on the divorce for her kids' sake. She clearly doesn't want to subject them to what she went through as a kid with her parents' divorce, especially with fame being an added factor. She's beautifully self-aware and considerate of others.

A part of me thinks, Aunt Riah is about to set another trend/standard of the tell-all+unreleased material package for the next wave of “legacy acts”. I can definitely see Kelly taking note in 10-15 years time.. and we might even get “All I Know” and my personal fave “I Can’t Lose.

They are actually different songs with the same name because this is sung by Gwen Stefani and it's included in the Japanese version of her album This Is What the Truth Feels Like.

New album out next year - she’s doing mixes of songs now. It will be “the most personal album” - about the emotions of her relationship from when it started to where it is now, after it ends. 😢

They post a podcast with the whole interview since they only show just a small part of it on tv. Kelly's whole thing is about 40min and she talks about a lot of things. The first part is just about what life has been like this year with all her jobs (which isn't as busy/bad as it seems) and how she still has a pretty normal schedule. When she was talking about being in MT, it sounds like there might be some hindsight regret about going there in March. Obviously no one knew the extent of what was going to happen to the world, so initially going to the place they got to escape and unplug from everything sounded like a great idea, until it wasn't because it became the complete opposite of that there. She talks a lot about the show and how she tries to make it comfortable for all the guests by having nothing off limits, that includes with herself. There's a bit of The Voice talk.


The last 10 minutes is where she really gets into the music part of it. The new album is coming out next year. She had parts of it done before the big life change so the direction shifted slightly once that happened. It's telling the arc of a relationship from the beginning highs to the middle stuff to the end of it. "There's fun stuff, there's dark comedy taking jabs at my life and there's sensitive moments."

While we wait for that, she's also releasing a couple Christmas songs this year. She wrote a song that's going to be a duet with Brett Eldredge and the other is a cover that she didn't say what it was yet.

She's on Late Night with Seth tonight.


Today this morning.

In this one she says doing the show this summer and just talking to people has really helped her out. And somehow she's running at an 8 on the happiness scale at the moment. I'm a pretty optimistic person, but I think I need to borrow some of whatever she's got.
