There's no way this "sample" was intentional lmao. Why would Ellie Goulding want to her new single to be based off a Dua Lipa song from 5 years ago? I agree with you. I also think it wasn't intentional and Jamie and Ellie figured that out when they saw that there were similarities with the melodies. Another possibility is the one you mentioned regarding the musicologists, hence the reason of the additional writing credits and to avoid possible lawsuits in the future.

Of all the pop girls assaulting us with music lately (seriously, it's like a rain on me tsunami these past two weeks), I never thought Ellie would be the one to serve me like this. I can't stop listening. That chorus launches me into orbit.
She has seemed so lost as an artist over the past year, I hope this is a sign of what the album is like.

Just listening to this and wow this is a VAST improvement over her recent singles - she still had it in her!

I hope this is sarcasm because itβs clearly an intentional sample since the exact same songwriters are credited... In this day and age (basically post the Blurred Lines lawsuit), labels and artist teams run new releases past musicologists who will let them know if the song they are releasing (Song A) is similar enough to a previously released, popular song (Song B) that it could be grounds for a lawsuit. They will attribute Song B's songwriters to Song A's credits to avoid any drama - happens all the time! I will admit I was wrong. Thank you for the clarification - this point of view makes sense now. Apologies for the sarcasm comment.

I don't see this doing anything in US pop charts. I guess her top 40 days are over.

Uhhh Close To Me was only 2 US singles ago and Hate Me was a moderate hit that could of done more damage had its streaming gains aligned with its radio Worry About Me flopped completely though but reached #33 on Pop and was only dropped like now She is far from over and definitely has it in her to get another hit.

Her new album will be released soon and "Worry About Me" was supposed the US pop hit from hit which would bring the attention to the album, but it sadly failed. Her last album was released 5 years ago. So I doubt there will be another pop single from this album to spend money for promotion and I actually think she will not try another US market pop album anymore. Hopefully she will go indie.

I was scared I wouldn't like it, but I've played it like 10 times today (which is a lot for me). Ellie's still got it

I mean, you just can't tell which song will connect with GP (especially in America). She can follow the trend, but her voice doesn't suit such music. I was really surprised because Lights smashed in the US, when it was a moderate hit in her country. Power is the song she needs rn, I hope/think she will score another top 10/5 on Pop with this.

Ellie was interviewed by Zane Lowe on Beats 1 and she mentioned that she and Jamie had 'this piano thing', which someone else pointed out to them that it was similar to Toto's track, so they decided to credit them after they listened to "Georgy Porgy". However, she didn't mention "Be The One", so it implies what you said regarding the musicologists and she and Jamie weren't aware of that either.

I don't think people realize how often this happens today. Even in the case of Katy's "Never Really Over," Dagny was speaking to the press, telling a story that Katy & the writers were "inspired" by her song "Love You Like That."

^ βHate Meβ has received pretty consistent Spotify support. I wonder what wouldβve happened if it popped off on streaming during itβs radio push...if radio could resurrect βUnderdogβ, it shouldve resurrected βHate Meβ

Is this not getting pushed as a single, if so, then god damn it Ellie I am in love with this right now
Parts of this reminds me of Figure 8, which if anyone knows Ellie, is easily up there as one of her top songs

This hasn't been serviced yet? Starting to think this album has already gotten all the support it was gonna get from her label in terms of promo.

The sample here does feel accidental.
They should send this for adds. It's the best thing she's released from this project.

The track has been playlisted by BBC Radio 2 and it was sent to Australian radio too. I hope Interscope pushes this in the US too because it's Ellie's best single in a while, but I wouldn't be surprised if they send "Slow Grenade" instead at this point. Sigh!

Yeah, agreed. Such a waste. I understand that it's hard to do promo, performances, etc. at this time. But it really seems like she and her label have just given up at this point.
