#105. Matt Jenkins - "King Of The Castle"
Total Points: 1,052 Average: 80.9 Year Released: June 6th, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #47 Billboard Peak: #51 Rankings:sabre14 - 42 recordyear - 51 someguy - 56 bboat11 - 63 Cody Wants Out... - 72 Kanenrá:ke - 82 gardyfan - 84 castleoblivion26 - 89 gonecountry - 94 kw9461 - 94 LBTrocks - 103 .indulgecountry - 109 tim - 113 "King of the Castle" was released as the debut single for Matt Jenkins the first week of June in 2005. It peaked at #47 on Mediabase in late June, but held on to the chart until early August. The song was promoted through Universal South Records, which was Joe Nichols' label at the time. "King of the Castle" was supposed to be on his debut album, I'm Just a Man, but it was never released. Matt was dropped from the label by the end of 2006. He has been a well-recognized name in Nashville, however, due to his songwriting. Some of his co-writes include "Runnin' Out of Air" by Love and Theft, "Cop Car" by Keith Urban and Sam Hunt, "American Beauty" by The Lost Trailers, "Do I Make You Wanna" by Billy Currington, "Setting the World on Fire" by Kenny Chesney and P!nk, "Song for Another Time" by Old Dominion and "Happy Anywhere" by Blake Shelton feat. Gwen Stefani. I can see why people don't like this song, but I think it's a grower. I love the fact it's so country and the lack of production is such a drastic difference from what we get nowadays. It's also kind of funny lol. Weird debut single choice, though. Also, this song and Matt's other single for Universal South ("Bad as I Want To") are harder than hell to find. They were never on iTunes in 2005-2006, and I'm pretty sure Kanenrá:ke and I are two of the only people who have these songs lol.

#104. Diamond Rio - "Can't You Tell"
Total Points: 1,014 Average: 78.0 Year Released: July, 2004 Mediabase Peak: #42 Billboard Peak: #43 Rankings:recordyear - 12 gonecountry - 28 LBTrocks - 28 gardyfan - 56 .indulgecountry - 64 Cody Wants Out... - 70 someguy - 91 bboat11 - 107 castleoblivion26 - 108 kw9461 - 109 Kanenrá:ke - 113 sabre14 - 114 tim - 114 "Can't You Tell" was released in July of 2004 by Diamond Rio, in what was supposed to be the lead single off an album of the same name, but it was never released due to its two singles ("One Believer") both failing to reach the top 40 at country radio. It peaked at #42 on Mediabase the last week of August.
I think this is the single that officially killed off their radio career. I know they had one that didn't do much before this ("We All Fall Down") but considering this was the first single off what was supposed to be a new album and radio basically gave it the cold shoulder was it for Diamond Rio. It's probably my least favorite single of theirs. It was risky and backfired.

"Can't You Tell" is such a disappointment from Diamond Rio. I've always been a big fan of theirs so I expected to like it more but I really couldn't stand it at all

It reached #39 on Billboard in August. The song was written by Burton Collins and Stacy Widelitz. This song is fine, I like it well enough, but it's not a huge favorite. It does give me some nostalgia, since my station played it in the summer of 2004. LBTrocks loses a top 5.

I like "Good People" but I don't know why it was the lead single. It was Bates' first fun, uptempo single, but it just never struck me as a lead off.

“One Step At A Time” is amazing, I probably haven’t heard it in 10+ years but my hometown radio station used to play it often and I would crank it up every time!! Got done super dirty here.
‘Good people they ain’t bad’ is such a terrible lyric lol. I find the song annoying. His delivery is annoying. Everything about the song is annoying lol.

[/div][/quote] The fiddle is enjoyable on that song, but even in 2004 that didn't make much sense as a single coming off two big hits. It's amazing how fast radio moved on from Buddy. Maybe "Abilene On Her Mind" could've been a hit if that was the 3rd single.

#101. Aaron Tippin - "Come Friday"
Total Points: 994 Average: 76.4 Year Released: June, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #37 Billboard Peak: #42 Rankings:castleoblivion26 - 15 LBTrocks - 18 gardyfan - 26 sabre14 - 64 recordyear - 65 tim - 75 someguy - 90 bboat11 - 100 kw9461 - 100 .indulgecountry - 106 Kanenrá:ke - 110 gonecountry - 111 Cody Wants Out... - 114 Following: bigfan101"Come Friday" was released in June of 2005 as the last single for Aaron Tippin on Lyric Street Records. The single was also Aaron's last top 40 single at country radio.
"Come Friday" isn't going to be confused with the most well-crafted song out there, but it's got a fun melody and arrangement. I can see Aaron's vocal delivery being annoying to some listeners.

Ooh! There's time for me to catch up! 116. "That's How They Do It in Dixie": You mean...I got a perfect ranking for last place? Other that that, what a mess! 115. "I Am the Working Man": Although the chorus is mildly catchy, I'm pretty sure we could've done without the extra sound effects in the chorus (don't know how to describe them though). I also think being the sacrificial role model for the working class is pretty vain, don't you? 114. "All I Ever Needed": Okay, I may have overranked this by about 30 or so spots, but I was kinda impressed with it enough on first listen to put it somewhere in the middle of my list. 113. "Easy Does It": Nothing special here, even after multiple listens, so moving on... 112. "Just Like a Redneck": Again, another case of me potentially overranking this, but I kinda found it quite catchy? 111. "I Play Chicken with the Train": Semi-guilty pleasure, but not quite enough to put it closer to my 100s. Not really a rap guy so... 110. "That's a Woman": He sounds decent, but how does this go again? 109. "Guy Like Me": See "Easy Does It"... 108. "Nothin' But Cowboy Boots": Um, what does this song even mean? 107. "Inspiration": Aww, this was quite a let down coming from the man who gave us "Dust on the Bottle", "Every Time I Get Around You", and "The Road You Leave Behind". "Loco" was also quite a jam. 106. "Where We Both Say Goodbye": As much as I wanted to like this one, it got too dramatic for me. Indifferent to Elton John being on there imo. 105. "King of the Castle": Almost had a heart attack when I saw his name already, but I'll admit that despite the somewhat cute premise, KotC was kinda hokey. 104. "Can't You Tell": As much as I LOVE Diamond Rio, this was a very strange sound coming from them. It started to grow on me just a smidgen, but not enough for me to put it any higher than I ended up doing. 103. "One Step at a Time": OW! This hurts as much as several daggers to the gut! One of my favorite discoveries! 102. "Good People": Yeeeeaaaaah, sorry. Couldn't get into this one. 101. "Come Friday": Pales massively in comparison to his hits from the 90s. What a graphic cliff-dive in quality he took (think of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote)!

I love "Come Friday". It isn't the most incredible song but it is a lot of fun. Sad it is out so early but not one bit surprised. He actually released another version of the song called "It's Friday" which I like a lot as well

Released in September of 2004, it peaked at #44 on Mediabase in late October. The song was written by Ryan Tyler, Hillary Lindsey and Angelo Petraglia. Kerry would leave Lyric Street in 2005.
Harvick was also a star on the first season of The Bad Girls Club on The Oxygen Network in 2006. She was once married to Daryle Singletary, from 1995 to 2002. She later married former country singer David Kersh in 2009.
Never was a big fan of "Cowgirls." It's not terrible but never did much for me.

#99. Keni Thomas - "Not Me"
Total Points: 982 Average: 75.5 Year Released: November, 2004 Mediabase Peak: #41 Billboard Peak: #47 Rankings:tim - 22 someguy - 37 recordyear - 42 gonecountry - 49 sabre14 - 50 Kanenrá:ke - 73 kw9461 - 74 gardyfan - 89 castleoblivion26 - 100 .indulgecountry - 102 Cody Wants Out... - 113 bboat11 - 115 LBTrocks - 116 Following: bigfan101"Not Me" was released in the fall of 2004 by Keni Thomas off Moraine Records. The song features Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris on backing vocals. It peaked at #41 on Mediabase in January of 2005, but held on to the chart until March. The song was off Keni's album Flags of Our Fathers: A Soldier's Story. Keni would chart later in 2005 with his song "Gloryland," featuring BlackHawk.
Keni Thomas served in the military in the 90's. He was a United States Army Ranger. He served in the Battle of Mogadishu, which is widely known as the Black Hawk Down battle. He went into country music after leaving the military. He and his band were also featured in the Reese Witherspoon movie, Sweet Home Alabama, singing "Sweet Home Alabama." Keni's also worked as a motivational speaker.
It's pretty amazing how high this song got on the chart with no real label muscle backing it. I can see Keni's vocals getting under people's skin but this is a really good song.

All three singles were promoted by Lyric Street with Pearl Records as the main label. "That Girl Is a Cowboy" peaked at #30 on Mediabase in late May but held on to the chart through June. It was written by Garth, Jerrod Niemann and Richie Brown.
I liked this one a little better when it was out but it sounds a little too hokey for me. I'm also not a huge fan of the "lyric-title, lyric-repeat title, lyric-repeat title" arrangement in the verses. Knew it would have its fair share of tankers, because, well, it's a country rankdown and it's Garth lol.

"That Girl Is a Cowboy" made it a lot further than I was expecting it too. I've never gone out of my way to listen to this song, but it's still enjoyable. Even so, my biggest issue with Garth's output post 2001's Scarecrow is the dated production that he continues to embody which just makes absolute zero sense to me. This song is a perfect example of him not adapting to the times.

I remember being upset at the horrendous production and mixing on “People Loving People.” I was perplexed how he listened to the final version and had the audacity to send it to radio as his comeback single, which many of us looked so forward to. I like or love much of Garth’s material but the refusal to catch up in the production and mixing departments will be his eventual downfall.

My 116 and my 115 going out back to back, I'll take it!
That Keni Thomas tune was just atrocious, my gosh his voice was putrid. Hated the song too. I don't even really remember this one at all... maybe I just blocked it out cuz it's so bad, lol.
Can't remember much about the Garth tune other than it's not "The Thunder Rolls' which is one of the only songs of his I like enough to actually listen to.

Wait why is King Of The Castle so low? I like rhythm of that song.
Maybe latin pop had a slow down at the time Can't You Tell was released after the mega hit that was Smooth in 1999~2000, but I think it is still good latin even though The Mavericks influence is obvious.
Why is that Bomshel song still in?

Kind of surprised to see Keni Thomas out so soon. His voice is a little thin, but it's still a good song and one I thought might do decent here. Really liked his other single, "Gloryland".

"I Love Her She Hates Me" was able to reach #53 on Mediabase the first week of September in 2005. The song was written by Casey Beathard, Buddy Brock and Kim Williams.
I love this song and I wanted it to be the third single off the album. I'm guessing the tanks are because Darryl has a few detractors here, but I've always been a fan of his music, especially his DreamWorks days. "I Love Her, She Hates Me" is a sad, funny song with a nifty melody. It's a shame it's chart run was ended abruptly with the label closing.

It was the last top 40 hit for Neal and the last charting single for him off his short-lived label, 903 Music, which produced the top 10 hit, "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On."
Former NBA star Karl Malone appears in the music video for "The Last of a Dying Breed."
I had a feeling this wouldn't do overly well here but I've always loved "The Last of a Dying Breed." The song is just infectious and even though it has some cliched lyrics, the rest of the song makes up for it.
