#97. Darryl Worley - "I Love Her, She Hates Me"
"I Love Her, She Hates Me" was released as the third and final single off Darryl Worley's self-titled album in August of 2005. The single was the victim of unfortunate timing, because less than four weeks after it impacted radio, Darryl's label DreamWorks folded, and Scott Borchetta left DreamWorks for the Big Machine Records/Show Dog joint-label venture. "I Love Her She Hates Me" was able to reach #53 on Mediabase the first week of September in 2005. The song was written by Casey Beathard, Buddy Brock and Kim Williams.
I love this song and I wanted it to be the third single off the album. I'm guessing the tanks are because Darryl has a few detractors here, but I've always been a fan of his music, especially his DreamWorks days. "I Love Her, She Hates Me" is a sad, funny song with a nifty melody. It's a shame it's chart run was ended abruptly with the label closing. He got screwed again with Neal McCoy's label 903 Music going out of business. His Here and Now album from 2006 was a great album. Should have done better, full of great songs. Yup. "Living In the Here and Now" was a terrific single in 2007, but just like DreamWorks in 2005, 903 went under and halted its chart run.

"The Last Of A Dying Breed" has always made me think of my father. Really infectious song, I've always liked it a touch better than "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On"

It only received airplay on Texas stations, but was able to chart into the top 50 in early September of 2005. It was Zona's only mainstream charting single.
Zona Jones is a singer-songwriter from Corpus Christi, Texas. He was signed to Quarterback/D Records where he saw Texas airplay and secondary play for his first album singles. In 2008 he signed with Tracy Lawrence's Rocky Comfort Records to release his next album.
"Two Hearts" has always been a favorite. I remember looking at the charts back then (2005 if when I started following them closely) and going "who the hell is Zona Jones?" lol This one is nostalgic and I think it's a beautifully arranged track.

I really enjoyed all four of Zona's singles from Harleys & Horses, though I think my favorite is "Whiskey Kind Of Way" (the only one that didn't chart on Billboard). He had such smooth voice and throwback style, I really had high hopes when he signed with Tracy's label, but they just didn't have the budget. One of the stations I listened to back then would actually play his stuff occasionally, especially his debut single "House Of Negotiable Affections"

#94. Cross Canadian Ragweed - "This Time Around"
Total Points: 949 Average: 73.0 Year Released: April, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #40 Billboard Peak: #43 Rankings: Kanenrá:ke - 24 tim - 27 kw9461 - 50 .indulgecountry - 53 gonecountry - 68 sabre14 - 70 bboat11 - 79 recordyear - 83 Cody Wants Out... - 88 someguy - 94 gardyfan - 97 LBTrocks - 106 castleoblivion26 - 110 Following: bigfan101 "This Time Around" was released in April of 2006 as the second single off Cross Canadian Ragweed's Garage album. It peaked at #40 on Mediabase in late May, but held on to the chart into early July. The song was written by Cody Canada and Randy Rogers.
Cross Canadian Ragweed were a country band with rock influences that formed in Oklahoma in 1994. Despite their name, they are not a band from Canada, but rather, using names of three of their founding members (Cody Canada, Randy Ragsdale, Grady Cross). They charted seven singles on the Billboard Country Airplay chart from 2002 to 2008, including five consecutive from 2003 to 2006. They signed to Universal South in the early 2000's, where they stayed until they disbanded in 2010. They were known as a Texas and Red Dirt act as well.
Cross Canadian Ragweed, like the Randy Rogers Band with Mercury Nashville, were never really given a full-blown promotion to mainstream radio. They really had the same 15-30 stations on the panel playing their singles and that was it, really.
I like "Fightin' For" better but "This Time Around" was really good too. I miss them.

#93. Shannon Brown - "Corn Fed"
Total Points: 946 Average: 72.7 Year Released: September, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #42 Billboard Peak: #47 Rankings:gardyfan - 11 Cody Wants Out... - 13 LBTrocks - 19 .indulgecountry - 20 sabre14 - 47 Kanenrá:ke - 71 someguy - 102 tim - 103 recordyear - 105 gonecountry - 113 bboat11 - 114 castleoblivion26 - 114 kw9461 - 114 Following: bigfan101"Corn Fed" was released as the first single for Shannon Brown off her album of the same name. It was also her first for Warner Music Nashville. It peaked at #42 on Mediabase in November. The song was written by Shannon Brown, John Rich and Vicky McGehee. The only other single off the album was "Pearls," which didn't chart on Billboard but made the top 60 on Mediabase.
Shannon first signed to Arista Nashville in 1998 to release her debut single called "I Won't Lie." She moved to BNA Records in 2001 where she charted two more times, including with the remake of the Deborah Allen song, "Baby I Lied." After 2006, she left Warner Music Nashville. She's married to music video director Shaun Silva, who directed the "Corn Fed" music video.
Very polarizing song, based off the rankings. I love "Corn Fed" but I get why it's grating and annoying to some others.

I try not to let an artist's politics cloud my view of them, but unfortunately Neal McCoy has made that a bit difficult for me as he's been quite vocal on where he stands (and disappointingly so). I still love his '90s output, but anything after 1999's "I Was" I can pretty much pass on.

"Two Hearts" was one of my favorite discoveries from the rankdown. Great song that gave me some George Strait vibes.

#92. Billy Dean - "This Is The Life"
Total Points: 939 Average: 72.2 Year Released: May, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #48 Billboard Peak: #52 Rankings:bboat11 - 26 LBTrocks - 54 someguy - 61 tim - 62 sabre14 - 69 gonecountry - 72 Cody Wants Out... - 74 castleoblivion26 - 76 gardyfan - 78 .indulgecountry - 87 Kanenrá:ke - 92 recordyear - 93 kw9461 - 95 Following: bigfan101"This Is the Life" was released as the fourth single off Billy Dean's Let Them Be Little album in May of 2005, although it was released five weeks after the album dropped. The song peaked at #48 on Mediabase in June. It was written by Billy Dean and Chuck Cannon. The album was his first and only for Curb Records and it was his comeback record (his first since 1998).
Two singles followed off the record, "Race You to the Bottom" and "Swinging for the Fence." Both made the New & Active section of R&R/MB.
I liked "Swinging for the Fence" and "Race You to the Bottom" better but "This Is the Life" is a solid song. The subject and lyrics are kind of blah but the vocals, music and production make up for it. I left off "Race You to the Bottom" because Billy already had two in the rankdown. I've always been a fan of Billy Dean's music. Super nice guy, too.

Non-Rankdown Highlight Song:
Billy Dean - "Race You To The Bottom"
"Race You to the Bottom" was released as the fifth single off Billy Dean's Let Them Be Little album in July of 2005. It peaked at #52 on Mediabase in August, but never made the top 60 on Billboard. The song was written by Billy Dean and Ray Barnette.
Billy's never recorded anything like this song before. He's kind of known as a love song singer and feel-good tracks, but "Race You to the Bottom" is edgy and talks about something rarely talked about in country music. I liked it but I can see others hating it.

It would be her final charting single and not included on an album. It peaked at #43 on Mediabase in early July. She left BBR in 2004. "Son of a Preacher Man" was a remake of a 1968 classic by Dusty Springfield.
Austin is from Sydney, Australia and has charted 10 singles on the Billboard country chart, from 1997-2004. Her biggest hit, ironically, came on little and unknown (at the time) BBR in 2003 with "Streets of Heaven," which reached the top 20. Her previous country charting singles were released off Arista Nashville.
I like some of Austin's singles but I don't really care for this song and I never cared for Sherrié's upbeat songs.

At least it also got as many top 20 ranks, so there are some of us with taste I guess.

I'm probably going to jinx it, but I'm surprised "What You Ain't Gonna Get" by Lauren Lucas is still in this, I had it pegged out bottom 5.

The second single "The Carolina Kind" made it to #56 on Mediabase but never charted on Billboard in June of 2005. Lauren left Warner Bros. Nashville by 2006. She's now part of the group, Farewell Angelina.
I liked "The Carolina Kind" much better. "What You Ain't Gonna Get" is a little annoying with its vocal arrangement.

Both songs were supposed to be included on an album that was never released. DreamWorks closed by September.
Jessica is incredibly hit or miss for me. I liked "Who I Am", "You Go First" and "There's More to Me than You." I didn't care for "Good Time," or "Everything" and hates "Karma" and "Summer Girl" lol.

#88. Rushlow - "Sweet Summer Rain"
Total Points: 923 Average: 71.0 Year Released: March, 2004 Mediabase Peak: #42 Billboard Peak: #42 Rankings:kw9461 - 7 gonecountry - 43 .indulgecountry - 49 recordyear - 56 tim - 61 castleoblivion26 - 69 bboat11 - 76 someguy - 78 sabre14 - 87 Kanenrá:ke - 88 gardyfan - 102 Cody Wants Out... - 103 LBTrocks - 104 "Sweet Summer Rain" was released as the second single off Rushlow's only album Right Now for Lyric Street Records in March of 2004. It peaked at #42 in June. The song was written by Jim Collins and Danny Orton. Rushlow was formed after Tim Rushlow was in Little Texas and then had his short-lived solo career, which produced one top 10 single ("She Misses Him"). Rushlow featured Tim's cousin Doni Harris, who later joined him to form the duo, Rushlow Harris in 2006.
Rushlow was signed to Lyric Street under the condition they name the band after Tim Rushlow (for name recognition). Their first single reached the top 15 on Mediabase in late 2003 ("I Can't Be Your Friend"). The group disbanded soon after "Sweet Summer Rain" exited the chart.
I loved "I Can't Be Your Friend" and even though I enjoy "Sweet Summer Rain," it's not a huge favorite. Tim Rushlow is talented though. I've enjoyed his musical output, whether it's in Little Texas, Rushlow or Rushlow Harris.

Yas I see a few of you have taste and put “What You Ain’t Gonna Get” in your top 50 at least! The vocal arrangement slays, the chorus is heaven and so fun to sing along to! I don’t really care for her voice or music in general but this is a jam! Another one I have actively listened to throughout the years.

Surprised "Summer Girl" wasn't the first female song out in this RD. Jessica Andrews is well-liked of course, but that song is dreck. I probably even over-ranked it a bit by letting it escape my 100s, lol.

I want to like the two CCR songs in this rankdown more because they probably should be in my lane of music taste, but the music is too forgettable to me.
Lauren Lucas got this cool unique voice. When she sang "And what you ain't gonna get is me" it's quite a strong delivery.
Sweet Summer Rain is pleasant radio fodder, although quite faceless.
Race You To The Bottom does have interesting lyrics but i don't like the whispering he does in this song.
The Carolina Kind is on the boring side. Maybe because I cannot really relate to the lyrics.

The song peaked at #45 on Mediabase in December. It was written by Jimmy Wayne, Tony Martin and Mark Nesler. The song was supposed to be the lead-off single off his sophomore album, but that was eventually delayed and "That's All I'll Ever Need" was never included on an album. Jimmy later switched to Valory Music for the release of "Do You Believe Me Now?" in March of 2008.
I like this song a good bit and it's nostalgic. It brings me back to late 2006. It's a little cliche but I love the instrumentation and melody.

It was off Fun Bone Records and Co5, which promoted the song to radio. The song peaked at #43 on Billboard in March, although it stayed on the chart through April. It was off his self-titled debut album. The song was written by Rodney Clawson and Tim Nichols and was also recorded by Jason Aldean for his self-titled debut album in 2005. Corbett's version includes Sarah Buxton on backing vocals.
Corbett is best known as an actor. He's acted in many famous films, such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Raising Helen, Tombstone and Serendipity.
I was hoping this one would do a little better here. I like John's version better than Aldean's, although I loved Aldean's debut album. This song's production lets the great lyrics and music shine through and while Corbett doesn't have the strongest voice, he does well enough.

I'm a big fan of Jeff Bates' first two albums, although I agree that Leave The Light On was a step down from Rainbow Man. "No Shame" is in Bates' wheelhouse but it was clear his momentum was gone by then. The singles off this album got better as they went along.

It received heavy airplay from Texas stations, but didn't get much help elsewhere. The song was written by Cody Canada and Mike McClure.
This one was polarizing. It's very country rock, so I could see some low ranks because this style isn't loved here, but I think it's a great song with a clever outlook. It's always been one I seek out as the years have gone by.
