#83. Mark Wills - "Hank"
Total Points: 897 Average: 69.0 Year Released: April, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #47 Billboard Peak: #46 Rankings:castleoblivion26 - 21 bboat11 - 45 gonecountry - 45 .indulgecountry - 46 sabre14 - 48 gardyfan - 57 Cody Wants Out... - 58 LBTrocks - 60 recordyear - 81 tim - 105 Kanenrá:ke - 107 kw9461 - 110 someguy - 114 Following: bigfan101"Hank" was released in April of 2006 as the first single for Mark Wills off Equity Music Group. The song peaked at #46 on Billboard the last week of May. It was supposed to be the lead single off a new album, but "Hank" was never included on a record. The other two singles for Mark on Equity were "Take It All Out On Me" and "Days of Thunder," which were both included on his Familiar Stranger album in 2008 off Tenacity Records.
I know "Hank" was received overly well by radio and I know people don't like it, but I love the song. It's got some great music, a solid melody and I love its subject. My family all has different views on seemingly everything, but in the end they can find a way to still get along (most of the time lol).

#82. Rio Grand - "Kill Me Now"
Total Points: 892 Average: 68.6 Year Released: April, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #42 Billboard Peak: #42 Rankings:Cody Wants Out... - 14 sabre14 - 23 kw9461 - 46 .indulgecountry - 48 bboat11 - 55 castleoblivion26 - 67 Kanenrá:ke - 78 LBTrocks - 82 recordyear - 85 tim - 89 gonecountry - 96 someguy - 99 gardyfan - 110 Following: bigfan101"Kill Me Now" was released in April of 2006 as the debut single for Rio Grand off Curb-Asylum Records. The single peaked at #42 in June -- holding on to the chart until July. It was written by John Rich, Vicky McGehee and Anthony L. Smith. Despite not being included on an album at first, it was later put on their Painted Pony EP in 2010. "Kill Me Now" was the only single that charted for Rio Grand.
Rio Grand was a four-person band that consisted of Danny Rivera (lead vocals), Tommy Rennick, Lance Leslie and Fred Stallcup. Leslie was previously in the band South 65, which charted a few singles at country radio from 1998-2001. Rivera later founded the band Sweetwater Rain, who also were signed to Curb Records and charted with the song, "Starshine" in late 2012.
I loved "Kill Me Now" when it was out and wished it could've climbed further than #42. It was a very competitive chart in the summer of 2006. I also enjoyed Danny Rivera's other band Sweetwater Rain and "Starshine."

#81. Steve Azar - "Doin' It Right"
Total Points: 890 Average: 68.4 Year Released: April, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #45 Billboard Peak: #47 Rankings:sabre14 - 18 gardyfan - 27 kw9461 - 31 someguy - 38 LBTrocks - 55 recordyear - 55 castleoblivion26 - 87 tim - 87 .indulgecountry - 88 Cody Wants Out... - 89 Kanenrá:ke - 99 bboat11 - 106 gonecountry - 110 Following: bigfan101"Doin' It Right" by Steve Azar was released in April of 2005. It peaked at #45 on Mediabase for three non-consecutive weeks in both June and July. The song was supposed to be the lead single off a new album off Mercury Nashville but the album was shelved because the single never made it high enough. Steve left Mercury Nashville by 2006.
I love how "Doin' It Right" is structured. It's got nifty lyrics and a cool melody that makes you want to sing along. It got some distinctive music too. It's total nostalgia too, takes me back to the summer of 2005. A little disappointed this one didn't go further but lack of familiarity and the fact there's so much in this rankdown, it's good it at least got this far.

116) "That's How They Do It In Dixie" - Not a huge Jr. fan myself and I know he's divisive so I figured he'd be low but I was hoping this would make it a few reveals at least. It's fun and the features were well done imo. (My Rank: 97)
115) "I Am The Working Man" - I liked Dusty's album and I really loved "Say Yes" but this one is kinda just there so I'm not sad to see it go at all. (108)
114) "All I Ever Needed" - I'm a hardcore Jessica Andrews Fan (the only? lol) but even I hated this. Badly sung by Brett, mediocre from Jessica, bad melody, poor production this was just horrid. I'm honestly a little shocked it got as much love as it did haha (116)
113) "Easy Does It" - Wait why is this out already? I thought it'd safely make the top like 80, I always loved the laid back feel of this. Damn. (57)
112) "Just Like A Redneck" - I liked Shannon's debut album, actually didn't realize he was that young when he recorded it. I think this song was trend chasing at the time but I never thought it sounded like a hit even while chasing it. I don't think it has enough fun in it to get past being kinda bad. (115)
111) "I Play Chicken With The Train" - Yay my first perfect ranking! Troy is talented and I like the song with Sarah Buxton, but I never could fully buy into him. (111)
110) "That's A Woman" - Hmm I didn't think this would make it high, but I wouldn't have pegged it for being this low. Seems like a simple song that got lost in the shuffle on radio but was inoffensive enough. There's plenty of worse songs in here. (80)
109) "Guy Like Me" - Given this is Pat Green I think this is a good ranking for it from the general Pulse crowd! He's got good songs that I like but this one is forgettable which is it's biggest sin. Not sad to see this one go here. (100)
108) "Nothin' But Cowboy Boots" - I loved Blue County's album but this was maybe the most throw away track and a waste of a single. However I guess it's catchy so I can see why it was chosen.
107) "Inspiration" - A strange single choice from an actually pretty good album, David always had good songs on his albums, this wasn't really one of them. As Sabre said it didn't seem to matter in the end.
106) "Where We Both Say Goodbye" - I adore Catherine Britt and wish she had broken through in the U.S. However this is probably near the bottom of her discography for me. Having Elton on the song was nice and I think they sound good together but it sounded dated when it came out. I do wonder how Elton came to be involved on the song?
More to come in a new post.

#80. Rushlow Harris - "That's So You"
Total Points: 885 Average: 68.0 Year Released: June, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #44 Billboard Peak: #57 Rankings:LBTrocks - 38 .indulgecountry - 43 kw9461 - 45 recordyear - 47 sabre14 - 52 castleoblivion26 - 58 someguy - 63 Cody Wants Out... - 67 bboat11 - 78 Kanenrá:ke - 93 tim - 94 gardyfan - 103 gonecountry - 104 Following: bigfan101"That's So You" was released as the first single for Rushlow Harris off Show Dog Nashville in June of 2006. It peaked at #44 on Mediabase in August. Just for reference on the huge discrepancy between the MB and BB peaks -- July and August of 2006 was when a ton of songs were hanging on to the Billboard chart, in that 7-15 range (the rule before 2007 was a song had to fall below the top 15 in audience and spins to go recurrent). Billboard changed it to top 10 by January 1st of 2007. "That's So You" was one of a few songs that had a giant peak discrepancy between the two charts.
Rushlow Harris was formed by Tim Rushlow and his cousin Doni Harris. They charted two singles on Show Dog in 2006 and 2007 ("Bagpipes Cryin'"). As mentioned earlier, Tim Rushlow was the primary lead vocalist in Little Texas, as well as having a solo career and then forming Rushlow in 2002-2003. Rushlow Harris was Tim's final chance at mainstream radio.
"That's So You" is a ton of fun. Great melody and puts a smile on your face. I liked "Bagpipes Cryin'" a bit better but "That's So You" takes me back to the summer of 2006.

#79. Bomshel - It Was An Absolutely Finger-Lickin', Grits and Chicken, Country Music Love Song"
Total Points: 878 Average: 67.5 Year Released: March, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #45 Billboard Peak: #49 Rankings:.indulgecountry - 24 sabre14 - 32 gonecountry - 35 gardyfan - 43 Kanenrá:ke - 49 tim - 53 LBTrocks - 73 bboat11 - 82 someguy - 82 kw9461 - 88 Cody Wants Out... - 91 castleoblivion26 - 111 recordyear - 115 Following: bigfan101"It Was An Absolutely Finger-Lickin', Grits and Chicken, Country Music Love Song" was released as the debut single for Bomshel for Curb Records in March in 2006. It peaked at #45 on Mediabase the last week of April. The shortened title for radio station logs was "Country Music Love Song." Bomshel said they wrote it for all the closet country music fans, who say they don;t like country music, but in reality, secretly listen to it.
Bomshel first consisted of Buffy Lawson and Kristy Osmunson. After releasing a few singles from 2006-2007, Buffy left in early 2008 and was replaced by Kelley Shepard for their 2008 and onward singles. They continued until 2012 when they disbanded Bomshel. Osmunson is now one-half of the duo, American Young, with Jon Stone.
I can see some hating this one but I've always loved it. It's music is so infectious and I love the songs subject. Sometimes artists don't like to openly discuss past bands, but Kristy Osmunson loves talking about her days in Bomshel. She's one of the nicest people in country music.

#78. Brian McComas - "The Middle of Nowhere"
Total Points: 869 Average: 66.8 Year Released: February, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #39 Billboard Peak: #43 Rankings:LBTrocks - 20 kw9461 - 21 sabre14 - 29 .indulgecountry - 51 Cody Wants Out... - 52 castleoblivion26 - 64 gardyfan - 67 someguy - 75 Kanenrá:ke - 90 recordyear - 90 tim - 101 bboat11 - 104 gonecountry - 105 Following: bigfan101 "The Middle of Nowhere" by Brian McComas was released in February of 2005 off Lyric Street Records. The single peaked at #38 on Mediabase in April. It was supposed to be the lead single off a new album but the single's low peak didn't allow that to happen and Brian left Lyric Street soon afterwards. He would be with little Katapult Records in 2006 for his next two singles. Brian's now with the Desert City Ramblers.
McComas charted five total singles for Lyric Street from 2001-2005, including the top 10 hit "99.9% Sure (I've Never Been Here Before)."
I love this song -- it's a total earworm. My hometown station played it too, I always heard it late at night, so it's nostalgic. McComas is super talented and it sucks he couldn't get any kind of traction, other than his only top 10 single. "The Middle of Nowhere" is a pretty hard song to locate, I don't think it was ever on iTunes and after Brian left Lyric Street it was nowhere to be found (no pun intended).

#77. Wynonna - "Attitude"

It peaked at #40 on Billboard in December. The song was written by Wynonna and John Rich. It would be her final charting single.
I love most of Wynonna's 90's material but her 2000's solo stuff has been completely hit or miss. "Heaven Help Me" was really the only one I enjoyed, although the duet with Naomi "Flies on the Butter" was pretty good. I don't like much about "Attitude" and her voice doesn't sound as good here as most of her other material. Maybe that's the way the song calls for but it's not my thing lol.

#76. Steve Holy - "It's My Time (Waste It If I Want To)"

The song peaked at #52 on Mediabase in late September. It was supposed to be off a new album but was never included on one because of its chart performance (along with "Go Home," which was released earlier in 2005).
This is my second favorite single by Steve Holy, behind "Go Home." I was hoping someone else would be in the top 30 at least lol. Only one real tank, so I'll take it, especially since Steve usually performs poorly in these rankdowns -- it's clear the two songs in this RD made a decent impression. "It's My Time (Waste It If I Want To)" is so damn fun. It describes the use of my free time lol. It's also got some awesome music -- I love the electric and steel guitar work here. Always puts a smile on my face. Man, I wish this and "Go Home" would've been hits...

Brian McComas is fantastic and while "The Middle of Nowhere" is one of my least favs from him I still really love it lol
"Attitude" is the bomb!! Easily Wynonna's best song IMO. I'm not much of a fan of her or The Judds in general but this is great. The guitar is killer, melody is full of 'attitude' (literally lol) and it's just an edgy, upbeat, kick-ass jam.

#75. The Lost Trailers - "Call Me Crazy"
Total Points: 843 Average: 64.8 Year Released: April, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #41 Billboard Peak: #43 Rankings:kw9461 - 3 sabre14 - 13 Cody Wants Out... - 31 gardyfan - 41 recordyear - 53 LBTrocks - 69 bboat11 - 75 someguy - 76 .indulgecountry - 80 tim - 86 Kanenrá:ke - 96 castleoblivion26 - 106 gonecountry - 114 Following: bigfan101"Call Me Crazy" was released in April of 2006 as the first single of The Lost Trailers' first album for BNA, which was self-titled. It peaked at #41 on Mediabase in June. The song was written by Stokes Nielson. The only other single off the album was "Why Me," which peaked at #45 in September of 2006. The Lost Trailers first single for BNA, "Chicken Fried," was pulled after being at radio for just four weeks, after writer Zac Brown sued BNA and label president Joe Galante for releasing it and requested it pulled from radio immediately. Zac stated the label told him it would never be a radio single.
I love this song and their next single, "Why Me." These two are my favorite singles from the group version of The Lost Trailers, although "Underdog" and "American Beauty" were terrific as well, but that was when they were a duo with Stokes Nielson and Jason Wyatt. I knew this wouldn't make it too far, because they're not that well liked on Pulse, but I had no problem with their music.
I contemplated including their version of "Chicken Fried," but I'm pretty sure it would've been taken down off YouTube immediately LOL.

Non-Rankdown Song Highlight:
The Lost Trailers - "Why Me"
"Why Me" was released in July of 2006 as the second single off The Lost Trailers' self-titled album for BNA, which was their first major label release. The song was written by Stokes Nielson and Jimbeau Hinson. It peaked at #45 on both Mediabase and Billboard in September.
I don't know why I left this one off the rankdown, considering it reached the top 45. It's a great song and I'm surprised neither "Call Me Crazy" or this were able to hit.

It peaked at #36 on Mediabase in December, even though it held on to the chart through January of 2006. The song was written by Wally Wilson and Buck Moore. The track features Tracy Byrd, Joe Diffie, Darryl Worley, Tanya Tucker and Mel Tillis on backing vocals. This would also be Trick Pony's last single as a trio with Heidi Newfield, as she left the band in 2006.
I'm a pretty big Trick Pony fan and this one is a very good song. It's super county and a fun sing-along. The album cover has no explanation. Apparently, Keith Burns and Ira Dean thought it was hilarious and convinced Heidi to go with it as the album cover lol.

It would also be Trisha's last single for MCA Nashville, who she had been with since her debut.
Trisha's got a great voice. Garth Fundis' production is on point...but this song is so boring lol. I could never get into it.

The album featured four singles in total -- "Code of the West", "Drinkin' Songs & Other Logic" and "Heartaches."
I love this song and I consider it very underrated. It's not anything super special but the melody is superb and I love the music and production. It definitely sounded traditional, even back in 2005. It's also one of the shortest songs on mainstream country radio over the past 20 years, clocking in at 2 minutes and 12 seconds.

I really enjoy the music and arrangement of "Ain't My Day to Care." It's a relaxing track that's an enjoyable listen. It reached #39 on Mediabase because August of 2006 was the time-period that a ton of songs were still charting on Billboard that had gone recurrent already on Mediabase.

I really wonder how differently things would've gone for The Lost Trailers if they didn't have to pull "Chicken Fried". Their version was just as good as Zac's, and likely would've been a hit. I was lucky enough to snag it off iTunes when it was first released, because it lasted about a week before everything hit the fan and it was pulled down. They lost all their juice when that happened, and "Call Me Crazy" never really gained any traction. It's a shame, it's such a great song and melody (much better than "Chicken Fried" IMO). Their debut album was really strong, it's too bad they never hit it big (and that they're best know for that terrible "Holler Back" song).

#70. Jace Everett - "That's The Kind of Love I'm In"
Total Points: 816 Average: 62.7 Year Released: May, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #49 Billboard Peak: #52 Rankings:LBTrocks - 10 Kanenrá:ke - 25 castleoblivion26 - 31 tim - 46 gonecountry - 59 recordyear - 63 sabre14 - 65 gardyfan - 76 Cody Wants Out... - 81 kw9461 - 87 bboat11 - 88 someguy - 88 .indulgecountry - 97 Following: bigfan101"That's the Kind of Love I'm In" was released as the debut single for Jace Everett off Epic Records Nashville in May of 2005. It peaked at #49 on Mediabase in early August. The song was off his self-titled, debut album. It would be his only album for Epic, as he left the label by the end of 2006.
Jace would releasing "Bad Things" in October of 2005 as his second-career single, and although the song never charted, it did gain fame for being the theme song of the HBO series, True Blood. It was even re-released in 2009 in Europe and was a top 10 hit in Norway. Jace releasing "Nowhere in the Neighborhood" in March of 2006 as the album's third single, but that also failed to chart. He also co-wrote Josh Turner's #1 hit, "Your Man" with Chris Stapleton and Chris DuBois.
I loved Jace's only album for Epic. "Bad Things" never charted in 2005, so I didn't include it, but I loved that song too. "Nowhere in the Neighborhood" was excellent.

Non-Rankdown Song Highlight:
Jace Everett - "Bad Things"
"Bad Things" was released as the second single off Jace Everett's self-titled debut album for Epic Nashville in October of 2005. It never charted, however, it did get selected as the theme song for the HBO series, True Blood, which made it gain notoriety.

#69. Aaron Lines - "Waitin' On The Wonderful"
Total Points: 811 Average: 62.3 Year Released: January, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #33 Billboard Peak: #36 Rankings:sabre14 - 15 someguy - 25 bboat11 - 33 Kanenrá:ke - 38 castleoblivion26 - 65 recordyear - 68 kw9461 - 70 LBTrocks - 72 tim - 72 Cody Wants Out... - 80 gonecountry - 80 gardyfan - 88 .indulgecountry - 105 Following: bigfan101"Waitin' on the Wonderful" was released in January of 2005 as Aaron Lines' lead single off his album of the same name. The single peaked at #33 on Mediabase in May. The album was never released in the U.S. but was in Canada and the single reached the top 5 on the Canadian Billboard country chart. In fact, Lines was the most-played artist on Canadian country radio in 2005. "Waitin' on the Wonderful" was the most-played song.
"Waitin' on the Wonderful" was released off BNA Records, after his first album in the U.S. was released off RCA Nashville ("You Can't Hide Beautiful"). Lines would leave BNA after "Waitin' on the Wonderful" exited the chart. He continued to have hits in Canada until 2011, including the biggest Canadian country radio hit of 2007, "Cheaper to Keep Her."
I love "Waitin' on the Wonderful." It was so different but still sounded like it belonged at radio. It was easily relatable at the time. Aaron's music was pretty damn good in Canada. It's a shame he hasn't been heard of since the early 2010's.

#68. Billy Dean - "Swinging For The Fence"
Total Points: 809 Average: 62.2 Year Released: May, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #56 Billboard Peak: Did Not Chart Rankings:sabre14 - 6 someguy - 27 Cody Wants Out... - 40 kw9461 - 41 recordyear - 44 bboat11 - 46 .indulgecountry - 47 gardyfan - 53 tim - 82 castleoblivion26 - 92 LBTrocks - 102 Kanenrá:ke - 114 gonecountry - 115 Following: bigfan101"Swinging for the Fence" was released as the sixth and final single off Billy Dean's Let Them Be Little album in May of 2006. It peaked at #56 on Mediabase in June. The song was written by Billy Dean and Ray Barnette. The music video was supposed to be filmed with multiple current and former MLB players, but that was scrapped after the single didn't fare well on the chart. The single was purposely released at the start of the baseball season.
I knew I'd be the highest ranker here but that's okay lol. I love this song. The melody, the music, the lyrics, everything. It's a fun song but it has a great life message too, and wraps it around the game of baseball. It's a jam. I think it should have been the single after "Let Them Be Little" instead of "This Is the Life."

“Bad Things” would have likely made my top 5 had it been included, but I really love “That’s The Kind Of Love I’m In” too so it just made it into my top 10 as well. The melody is insanely good!! I love Jace Everett. Great vocalist and great songs.

#67. Dwight Yoakam - "Intentional Heartache"
Total Points: 806 Average: 62.0 Year Released: April, 2005 Mediabase Peak: #49 Billboard Peak: #54 Rankings:recordyear - 4 tim - 20 LBTrocks - 33 someguy - 59 kw9461 - 60 gonecountry - 69 castleoblivion26 - 72 sabre14 - 72 Kanenrá:ke - 76 gardyfan - 79 .indulgecountry - 83 Cody Wants Out... - 86 bboat11 - 93 Following: bigfan101"Intentional Heartache" was released as the lead single off Dwight Yoakam's Blame the Vain album in April of 2005. It peaked at #49 on Mediabase in June, but held on to the chart through July. The song, along with the entire album, was produced and written by Dwight. The album's second single was "Blame the Vain," which reached #58 on Billboard in October. As you can imagine, the end of "Intentional Heartache" was more or less improvised.
Good song and some major nostalgia with "Intentional Heartache," but it's a very strong rankdown, so I put it at #72. "Blame the Vain" was an even better song.

#66. Lindsey Haun - "Broken"
Total Points: 795 Average: 61.1 Year Released: September, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #46 Billboard Peak: #52 Rankings: castleoblivion26 - 5 bboat11 - 9 LBTrocks - 14 gonecountry - 27 tim - 31 Kanenrá:ke - 43 gardyfan - 74 .indulgecountry - 75 someguy - 80 Cody Wants Out... - 104 sabre14 - 106 kw9461 - 113 recordyear - 114 Following: bigfan101"Broken" was released as Lindsey Haun's debut single in early September of 2006. The single peaked at #46 on Mediabase in November. It would be Lindsey's only charting single. Signed to Show Dog Nashville, Lindsey starred in the movie Broken Bridges with Toby Keith. The song was included in the movie's soundtrack.
Along with starring in Broken Bridges, Lindsey has also appeared in many TV shows and movies, dating back to 1991, when she was just 7 years old. She's the daughter of Jimmy Haun, who was in the bands Yes and Circa.
This song's got a nice message but the vocal arrangement has never been my thing. I was rather tired of it after a couple listens when it first came out lol.

"Intentional Heartache" is such a jam! Glad to see this one get some support as Dwight is one of those artists that remains a bit on the polarizing and underrated side here on Pulse.

I love "Broken" and am very disappointed to see it out already, though not one bit surprised. I've just always enjoyed this one
