There is nothing wrong with branching out(as long as it can work).

Itβs more of a genre thing. Any artist can latch onto a popular sound to boost their popularity in that market, but if itβs not done well the backlash comes in fast, look where Iggy Azalea is now. Cardi B isnβt from Puerto Rico or Columbia but her collaboration with those artists worked really well because it fit her character and she had great chemistry with Bad Bunny and J Balvin. You cannot tell me that a a dance pop singer from England combining her sound with that of reggaeton is a good idea. The Iggy is a bit different though. Iggy didn't get backlash for being a white woman latching onto a popular sound, there was backlash because she was a white woman who made herself sound and pretend to rap like a black woman from the south. Also I'm not really sure what you mean by it fits with Cardi's character, she's Afro-Latina. Whereas that played a definite role in Azeleaβs backlash, I wouldnβt say that was the primary reason. The vast majority of her backlash stemmed from the racist/bigoted comments (or as she said, βinappropriate jokesβ) she made about Black people on Twitter in the early 2010βs that were eventually brought to light. It was also the βRunaway Slave Masterβ lyric of which continuously went viral across Social Media during her 2014 reign that truly damaged her career and reputation. Whereas her βBlaccentβ was certainly questioned, several significant Hip-Hop magazines and critics were actually praising her early material (prior to βFancy/The New Classicβ) and thatβs why she earned a spot on XXLβs βFreshman Listβ and was the first Female to be the cover star. There were several Black celebrities that tried to come to her defence; Jill Scott, Eve, Lupe Fiasco, Will.I.Am etc. Soon after, she was being mocked by most Black celebrities, particularly those within Hip-Hop, with Azealia Banks being the most significant one and when she would defend herself it was always done in a passive-aggressive, borderline insensitive manner where she seemed to dismiss the allegations made against her and not take true responsibility for her actions and blame it all on her having a βvaginaβ. Once T.I spoke out against her and parted ways with her in 2015, it was over and sheβs never recovered. π

"Rain on Me" clearly didn't have a normal radio deal. I'm interested to see if they have something kicking in on Monday when it helps them for the Hot 100. Or are they not doing a radio deal?

J Balvin is Colombian lmao. I do agree that it would be cheap of Dua to make a reggaeton or urbano track. However, music is meant to unify humanity and becomes beautiful with collaboration & diversity. Dua's song with BLACKPINK, for instance, is a great example of such music that reaches beyond borders, without Dua appropriating K-pop or Korean culture. Let's not jump the gun before we hear the track. The collaborations that artists like Halsey, Dua, and Nicki are doing with K-Pop acts work because K-Pop includes bits of genres that those artists have already done so it doesnβt sound that out of the ordinary hearing them on songs like that. My problem isnβt cultural appropriation, itβs confusion over what place an artist has making a song in a genre so different to the one theyβre making just because itβs popular. The reason why the Circles Gunna Remix is a meme is because, why would Gunna ever go on a song like that? It would sound ridiculous. Same with why the HITR remix with Rosalia didnβt work. If you try and force an extreme cross genre collaboration just to open up an artists popularity into more places or simply just to make a few more coins, the backlash starts to come in hard. ozzy osbourne and travis scott were on the same song last year and that shit bangs, whats wrong with artists collaborating with other artists that have different styles?

I initially wrote this big paragraph explaining it but I deleted. My point is that sheβs an English dance pop artist and pairing her with two reggaeton artists from Puerto Rico makes absolutely no sense. Neither did Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias, or Gloria Estefan and N Sync, or Whitney Houston and Enrique Iglesias, or Halsey and BTS, or Psy and Snoop Dogg, or Sting and Cheb Mami.

Iβd say thereβs a difference between getting a rock and roll icon on a hook of a rock influenced trap song with two artists who have dipped their toes in that area before, compared to an artist who is still finding her feet in the music industry and developing herself as an artist being pushed completely out of her comfort zone to work with reggaeton artists so that her popularity is boosted in that market

The biggest song of last year was a country trap fusion from a 19 year-old who had only released a handful of songs up to that point and a one-hit wonder country artist who's one hit was all about his "achy breaky heart". And if you had told people that song was going to be released, most would've thought it would turn out a disaster.
I know genre crossover still mostly end up messy and bad but hey, maybe this will be another Take What You Want or Old Town Road. The song isn't out yet, let's not judge it's quality yet.

Iβm trying really hard to imagine Dua Lipa getting on the phone to her manager and saying that she really wants to do a song with Bad Bunny but I just canβt picture it for some reason idk.
idk dudez south of the border wasnβt great for Ed Sheeranβs career so idk why part 2 with Dua lipa would be any different but ah well

well after the underperforming 'break my heart' she needs to become a ''collab artist'' and also she doesn't have trust in her era anymore...she will release new song and not something from her album who just release 2 months ago..also she has a collab song with Normani and it will come after Bad bunny and J balvin collab Break My Heart is still gaining on radio so I wouldnβt say itβs underperforming. Dua Lipa making a song with Bad Bunny and J Balvin is a bad idea because sheβs not Caribbean. While Colombia borders the Caribbean, it's not really considered a Caribbean nation. J Balvin is from the middle of the country (MedellΓn) anyway. But more importantly... BeyoncΓ© isn't Caribbean either and teamed up on Mi Gente. Cardi B is Dominican ethnically but from NYC and isn't primarily known for latin music. The Black Eyed Peas aren't Caribbean. Drake isn't Caribbean. People don't have to be from the same regions to collaborate.

So...
Sales (bundles) are the driving force behind Hot 100 number ones these days, even if other songs have more collective streams and/or even airplay?
No wonder HDD forever drags them! π

Who's not to say that Dua knows either of them personally? What the hell is your issue with this lmao also implying that this dua lipa song would sound anything like SOTB is hilarious to me. Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, and Cardi B all have completely different styles from Dua Lipa, J Balvin, and Bad Bunny. Just because some white person makes a song with two hispanic people doesn't make it some cash grab and that all of those songs will sound the same (and this is coming from a person who has made fun of that formula). The Despacito remix sounds nothing like remix of Post Malone's rockstar for example lol

In Your Eyes versions combined managed to squeeze a ~14k daily gain on Spotify. Spotify is starting to become inconsistent like Billboard is.

I was expecting some distorted, loud, blown out hip-hop from this $uicideBoy$ in the same vein as Scarlxrd and XXX, didn't expect a somber hip-hop track about existentialism.
Actually really liked it, kinda hope it becomes a hit.

With Dua Lipa, they are trying VERY hard to make her successful, at least in the past couple of years. Like I will never understand why people so huge like Sean Paul and Calvin Harris would do songs with her, they were obviously instructed to do so. And the amount of promotion she gets on Spotify and her having such high levels of airplay doesn't make any sense either. Part of the art of creating a successful pop star is making it seem believable and organic to the public, and in this case it doesn't seem so. Shes exactly what people talk about when the say "manufactured pop acts".
