Someone must be a BRAVE soul to send in "Symphony" for the roadblock pick based on what happened in Last Stand... although the judge panel is different so anything could happen I suppose!

securing their first win with the fast forward we have...1. Sambal Wrap (Sambalada & wrip )Overall Score: 78.3 | Detour Rank: #4 | Roadblock Rank: #9 | Fast Forward Rank: #1 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.4Fast Forward Results:Theme: The Night Life Istanbul is known for its wild nightlife, with parties on nearly every corner. For this fast forward, you must send a song that majorly discusses parties and partying in its lyrics.Judge's Thoughts:Nick: haha the quintessential feel good party song! a solid pick for the theme (8.5)Samo: It’s not like the score I give this matters much, but for what it’s worth this is a great song, and fits the theme perfectly. I’ve been hearing this song for years, and still haven’t gotten sick of it, which shows more than I could ever say about its quality. (9.2)Overall Score: 17.7 (+15 points)Detour Results:(Big Building)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I love the tense piano line on this song, it gives it a nice energy. the vocals are also really good, and I like the lyrics a fair bit as well! (9.2)Samo: I really like the piano loop that runs through the song, but it can get kind of tiring after multiple listens, although it does help make the song seem shorter with its fast tempo. The lyrics are great, but the song isn’t something I see myself returning to often. (8)American Idiot: Vocally, this sounds a lot like Brandon Flowers which for me as a huge Killers fan is definitely not a bad thing. The instrumentation is done so well and consistent throughout the song. This was definitely one I'll come back to. Hell, I need to get into more of their stuff. I don't know enough. (8.5)rom: it’s not even the best thing lcd soundsystem has done that would qualify for this theme (ive cried to dance yrself clean numerous times) but by god is this one of the saddest songs you can dance to (9.5)Overall Score: 35.2Roadblock Results:(Sent by Samb)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a solid enough pop track. I think the production is pretty catchy, and I think the vocal snippet of “on a” is used effectively. the song may not stand out a ton but it’s pretty good for what it is (8.1)
Samo: This isn’t one of my absolute favourites from Kylie, but it’s still a good, fun song that serves its purpose well. I don’t really have a lot to say about this one, it’s a lot of fun, just not anything particularly special. (8)
Lordeftones: Maybe if I consumed a shitton of ecstasy I could get down to this. But as it currently stands, this is a really boring disco pop song. (4.6)
mitchwolf: Another danceable bop here... the vocals' lil off, otherwise its ok (7)
Overall Score: 27.7
you two were the only team brave enough to do the fast forward, which pushed you all the way from 7th to 1st, and by 6 whole points. you'll be getting a +1.9 bonus next leg!

just missing out on a third win we have...2. The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber (@matthewlam & tanooki)Overall Score: 72.3 | Detour Rank: #1 | Roadblock Rank: #1 | Bonus From Last Leg: +2.1Detour Results:(Big Building)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a truly gorgeous track. I love the build up over the course song of the song, and the chorus is just perfect. Prince also delivers a killer vocal performance to top it all off (10)Samo: My favourite Prince song, and one of my favourite songs of all time. Prince’s vocal performance here is incredible, and the instrumental has so much variety it doesn’t feel like an almost 9-minute song at all. (10)American Idiot: Another "You're going to hate me..." ranking. I know this song is legendary, but I've never been a fan of Prince unfortunately. Just not for me I guess, but I do appreciate the instrumentation at least. (6.8)rom: its not even the best song on the album, but that says more about how good purple rain, the album, is. rest in peace. (8.5)Overall Score: 35.3Roadblock Results:(Sent by Matt)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a classic! everything about this song is just really good haha. the vocals, production, melodies, lyrics - all very strong! great pick! (9.3)
Samo: Radiohead is one of the best examples of a band I just...don’t get. I can’t say I’ve disliked anything I’ve heard from them, but most of it is just decent to me, like this. The production is pretty good, probably my favourite part of the song, but I’m not big on Thom Yorke’s vocals. (7.1)
Lordeftones: Can't really give this one a low rating since it's one of the 'head's best songs. Jhom Yorke's crooning actually works on this track and it's actually quite beautiful and melancholy. (8.5)
mitchwolf: Thom Yorke's eerie classic (let alone the video) still one of the greatest from this band (10)
Overall Score: 34.9
you two could've won this leg had you done the fast forward, but you can still enjoy another top 2 finish and a +1.4 bonus next leg.

continuing their climb we have...3. ;-; (shruggie & DistrictTwelve )Overall Score: 69.3 | Detour Rank: #2 | Roadblock Rank: #6 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.2Detour Results:(Big Building)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a nearly perfect track. the little piano line is great, and both Kanye & Pusha T give great performances. the lyrics are also pretty fantastic. (9.9)Samo: This is probably my favourite Kanye song, but it does feel like an obvious pick for this theme, albeit a great one. All the parts of this song are excellent, but the outro could be a little shorter. (9.4)American Idiot: You're all going to hate me here as I know how adored this song is. Again, not a song I'd choose to listen to, but I can understand why most would. It has a great meaning behind it, but I just didn't care for it lyrically. I know I sound like a broken record talking about the length, but it did actually bother me as I got bored about halfway through. Sorry, all. (5.9)rom: hehehe i sent this bitch a picture of my dick... (10)Overall Score: 35.2Roadblock Results:(Sent by shruggie)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a pleasant little pop track. I don’t love the verses but the chorus is really solid and quite catchy. (8.5)
Samo: The chorus really makes this song, but the rest of the song is still great. The lyrics in the verses are fairly basic (and not in a good way), but Dua’s performance is strong enough to elevate them, and the main synth line is surprisingly catchy. (9.3)
Lordeftones: Oh lorde here we go, a Dua Lipa song. I had enough of her in march madness what the hell is- Oh.. this... kinda slaps.. Wait actually this song is fire. The beat just drives the song forward and the chorus cements it as a banger. Wow, didn't expect to like a Dua Lipa song but this is certainly the best thing she's ever done. (7.5)
mitchwolf: This tune from Dua is not one of her best but it's ok (8)
Overall Score: 33.3
you two were close to making the top 2, but a weaker roadblock choice almost took you out of the top 3. you'll be getting a +1.2 bonus next leg.

rising one spot (again) we have...4. Latino Gang 😎 (MoD & Leo ✔)Overall Score: 68.8 | Detour Rank: #6 | Roadblock Rank: #4 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1Detour Results:(Big Building)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I really dig the guitar work on here! it gives the song a very nice chill groove. I think the song is able to coast off that groove very well, which allows it to barely feel like a 7+ minute track! (9.1)Samo: The production here is interesting, but I don’t know if I actually like it that much. Compared to the other songs here, it’s one of the least memorable for me, on top of some vocals I’m not really a fan of. (7.4)American Idiot: I mean how could I not honor that this is absolute classic when it comes to 80's music and the whole genre of synthpop in general. The whole variety of sounds and beats throughout the song continue to impress me after hearing this now for probably the 500th time in my life. I'm still kicking myself for not participating in the New Order Top 10 on that we do on the Rock section. I would love to one day do a discog run for them. (8.8)rom: a song that was ahead of its time when it was released back in 1983, and 37 years later i still dont think we've caught up to it. (8.8)Overall Score: 34.1Roadblock Results:(Sent by Leo)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a very strong pop track. I think Rita Ora sings it well, and it’s pretty catchy and upbeat. the lyrics are pretty sweet as well. the drop is pretty groovy. it’s a really good song! (9.2)
Samo: Nearly everything about this song makes for a great basic pop song; the second half of the drop just isn’t good, but I love everything else here, especially the chorus and pre-chorus melodies. (9.4)
Lordeftones: Listening to this song was like me thinking I'm in the wrong club and as soon as the drop hits realizing I'm in the right club. I wasn't feeling this song initially but oh man it got me moving real quick. Great find. (7.5)
mitchwolf: This is an ok tune but the autotune kinda ruins it... otherwise i'll take it (8)
Overall Score: 33.7
you two have consistently been improving for the last few legs, so keep it up! you'll be getting a +1 bonus next leg.

finally landing a placement in the middle we have...5. Canadeam (matteeeb & lyhom )Overall Score: 68 | Detour Rank: #5 | Roadblock Rank: #5 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.8Detour Results:(Big Building)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I like this one! I think Frank Ocean delivers a really strong vocal performance, and I think the beat and groove are really cool and unique. I also think the lyrics are pretty strong! (9.2)Samo: I love the lyrics here, and splitting the song into two parts helps it feel shorter than it is, despite being the longest song here by quite a bit. I do like the beat, but some parts of it (like the twinkling sounds at the start of the song) are a little annoying. (8.3)American Idiot: Those who know my tastes in music know that I am NOT a fan of much of anything R&B-related and I haven't really liked anything I've heard from Frank Ocean before. However, I was able to appreciate this song for quite a few reasons and totally understand why it currently has a 4.12 rating on RYM. His voice actually sounded good to me on this one and funky electric vibe that it has going. I didn't even mind that the song is almost ten minutes long and it didn't feel like it dragged on. (7.2)rom: the way this song progresses is absolutely insane, with segments so clear, yet flowing so smooth, you’d think robert fripp produced it. the production is so good, and these synths, in all parts of pyramids, are the best. frank’s vocals also work incredibly well over both the dark synthpop instrumental of the first half and over the haunting trap instrumental of the second half. so many moments that i would classify as “heavenly”, it would be a perfect track if it weren’t for the somewhat shaky lyrics, but i can’t knock it too much for that. (9.4)Overall Score: 34.1Roadblock Results:(Sent by Zedd)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a really cool song! I like the production work and the vocals are pretty nice. the build up into the chorus is also pretty cool! (8.8)
Samo: The “beating like a hammer” melody has been stuck in my head since I first heard this, but it hasn’t gotten annoying yet, and the rest of the song is likewise pretty strong. The buildup is great, as is the guitar in the verses. (8.1)
Lordeftones: Yesssss this is one of my favorite Metric songs. It has such an ominous aura to it and it brilliantly builds, hinting at an explosion but never gets there and it works really well. (9)
mitchwolf: This one starts off bad but then sounds good rest of the way (8)
Overall Score: 33.7
you two were tied with MoD and Leo for both challenges this leg, but ended up 5th in both, making you 5th overall as well, meaning you'll be getting a +0.8 bonus next leg.

continuing their steady rise we have...6. The Golden Ducks (willapted33 & Web)Overall Score: 66.5 | Detour Rank: #3 | Roadblock Rank: #7 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.6Detour Results:(Big Building)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: how can someone not love this song. it’s got a gorgeous instrumental and the lyrics are also super well written! the vocals fit the track super well and overall it’s just a really great listening experience! (9.8)Samo: I know a lot of people love this, but this just didn’t keep my interest as well as the rest of the songs here, though the lyrics are pretty good, and the production isn’t bad by any means. (6.7)American Idiot: I don't know how anyone could dislike this absolute classic. It's just so full of happiness as an amazing love story. For me, it's probably one of my Top 100 songs of all-time. It's been re-done so many times, but no one else comes close to this masterpiece. (9.7)rom: its beautiful and theres not much more i can say about it (9)Overall Score: 35.2Roadblock Results:(Sent by Web)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a very well produced song. I like the guitars a lot, especially during the verses. the vocals are also pretty good! (8.7)
Samo: The production here is the highlight of the song, but between this and PDA I just don’t think I like John Interpol’s voice that much, because outside of the vocals this is really good. (7.7)
Lordeftones: This is a solid song from a solid album. Sometimes John Interpol's voice can get rather annoying but this song works well with it, and the chorus carries the song here. I need to get something to eat. (7.3)
mitchwolf: these guys always sounds good ... but this vocals is lil weak and the guitars drowns it (7)
Overall Score: 30.7
the top 4 for the detour were all extremely close, so a weaker roadblock choice took you two out of the top half entirely. you'll be getting a +0.6 bonus next leg.

falling back to 7th again we have...7. Dylo (Mylo13 💜 & Daryl the Beryl )Overall Score: 65.8 | Detour Rank: #9 | Roadblock Rank: #3 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.4Detour Results:(Big Building)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I think the instrumental is really strong and I’ve always liked the vocals of Kevin Parker. the lyrics are pretty cool too. some of the synth choices aren’t great though haha, but they barely drag the song down (8.7)Samo: I’ve never been a huge fan of Tame Impala, but this is one of the more interesting songs I’ve heard from them. The vocals aren’t something I particularly like, but the synth melodies here are great (aside from the one that sounds like a skipping record halfway through the song). (7.1)American Idiot: To be honest, I didn't care much for Tame Impala until their new album came out earlier this year. They do their particular psychedelic rock sound so incredibly well and now I've able to go back to older albums and understand why they're so loved by most on here. (8.2)rom: the tittering synths are making me question whether or not i need a relisten of currents to bump its score down. (6)Overall Score: 30Roadblock Results:(Sent by Mylo)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I really like the chorus on this song, it has a great melody. the verses are alright, but they really aren’t on the same level as the chorus (8.3)
Samo: I’ve been meaning to give this a listen for a while now, and I’m glad I finally get the opportunity to, because this is great. The chorus is really catchy but not annoying at all; I can see why this did so well in WTM, and I hope it can do just as well here. (9.1)
Lordeftones: This is a great song. The chorus just carries it, and Jane Broods has a great voice. I always felt they were underrated and this is just some really solid synthpop. (8)
mitchwolf: The Broods - Free this song is pretty good ... well produced .. ill take it (9)
Overall Score: 34.4
after the detour you guys were dangerously close to last place, but thanks to an excellent roadblock choice you're just outside the bottom 3. you'll be getting a +0.4 bonus next leg.

finishing just short of the bottom 2 we have...8. The Lights (walt91 & Lukas)Overall Score: 62.9 | Detour Rank: #10 | Roadblock Rank: #2 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.6Detour Results:(Big Money)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I think this is a pretty cool song, but I really think the rest of the list is much better. I like the dark vibe, but at the same time, I think you two would benefit from sending some slightly riskier picks in the future (7.4)Samo: I used to not like this at all, and while it’s grown on me a lot since I first joined Pulse, it’s still one of the weaker detour songs this round. The way the production explodes at the start of the chorus is pretty satisfying, but the bridge and outro don’t do much for me. (7.4)American Idiot: Right away, you have to know that my experience with The Weeknd is only the super big hits he's done. Vocally, the dude definitely has amazing pipes and there are quite a few songs that I could absolutely rank high here. This was a first listen for me and I have to say, I didn't like it at all. I can't stand the sound of autotune and this was all throughout the song. I also didn't like the lyrics one bit. I wouldn't care to ever return to this one. Sorry, everyone. (4.4)rom: this song is loud and creepy... does the weeknd secretly want to be in a noise rock band? (7.5)Overall Score: 26.7Roadblock Results:(Sent by Lukas)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a jam! I think Gwen’s vocals are really good here and the chorus is quite strong! the lyrics are also pretty nice, as is that guitar solo (8.8)
Samo: I love the chorus and bridge, but the verses really don’t do anything for me, taking this down from about a 9 to this. The good parts of this song are some of Gwen’s best work, and it’s still a fun song overall. (7.6)
Lordeftones: Not much to say here given how popular this song is. It's a well-crafted ballad and an absolute singalong. No matter where I am when I hear this song I'm always DON'T TELL ME CAUSE IT HUUUUUUURTS (8.2)
mitchwolf: This classic still stands outs as about a strained relationship... Easily the best from Gwen (10)
Overall Score: 34.6
you two easily had the worst detour performance, but are safe thanks to one of the best roadblock choices here. you'll be getting a +0.2 bonus next leg.

and the final team moving on to the next leg is...9. Fire & Desire (Fire & ry4n )Overall Score: 58.7 | Detour Rank: #8 | Roadblock Rank: #8 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0Detour Results:(Big Money)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a nice, fun, catchy pop track but it really pales in comparison with the other songs here. at this point in the race, taking some more risks would be smart, otherwise you’re not gonna be able to make it too much further (7.4)Samo: I didn’t think anyone would go for Big Money, but I’m glad this was sent; Gaga is at her best making pop music with more straightforward production, and this chorus is one of her absolute best. It really helps balance out the weirder production in the verses. (9.8)American Idiot: While not much of a Pop music fan, I can't deny how this has always gotten me to stop what I'm doing and dance the hell out. Even if one isn't a fan of Lady Gaga's, you have to honor her legacy years down the line with a hit like this one. (7.8)rom: yes im aware its iconic, im aware it launched us into a new era of pop music, im aware of all the great things about bad romance by lady gaga. alternatively, these synths are absolute garbage (5.5)Overall Score: 30.5Roadblock Results:(Sent by Fire)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I think the verses here are pretty good, I like the production. but I don’t enjoy the chorus one bit haha. I feel like Zara tries to push herself too far and her vocals end up feeling really strained (7.2)
Samo: Considering its performances in other Pulse games, I’m interested to see how well this ends up doing. This might be my favourite song in this set, with a great vocal performance from Zara Larsson and some of Clean Bandit’s best pop production. (9.5)
Lordeftones: I've heard Clean Bandit before so I didn't need to listen to this song cause it's the same Clean Bandit formula. The only difference being this is not captivating at all and Zara Larsson just sounds bored. Generic and uninspired, hard pass on this one. (4.5)
mitchwolf: not the best from both and the hooks is weak, but its ok (7)
Overall Score: 28.2
neither of your choices were the worst, but neither did particularly well, which nearly got you eliminated - so make sure to find some more risky choices. you won't be getting a bonus next leg.
which unfortunately means the team exiting this leg must be...
10. The Steel Porcupines (@humanshazam & House Lannister )Overall Score: 52.1 | Detour Rank: #7 | Roadblock Rank: #10 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.2Detour Results:(Big Building)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: one of JT’s best! I think his higher register works really well on this track, and the production has a solid groove to it. I also like how the lyrics act as a kiss off of sorts, I think JT does those sorts of songs well. (8.8)Samo: Justin’s vocals are usually my least favourite part of his songs, and that holds true here, but it’s still one of his better songs. I do think this song could work just as well if “...Comes Around” was cut out, but it’s a good song nonetheless. (7.6)American Idiot: Again, definitely not something I'd typically listen to, but I liked this a lot more than I expected to. Nice catchy beats and Justin shows off his vocals very well in this song. Another song where I didn't mind it being so long at almost 7 1/2 minutes as the tempo changes up nicely about 5-6 minutes into it. (8.3)rom: karmas a bitch huh? well this song goes hard but there’s no reason for it to last 7 and a half minutes, and i don’t mean that in a way like gabe meant, i just think that beat switch at around the 5 and a half minute mark is completely unnecessary, justin timberlake rapping at the end just ruins it (6.7)Overall Score: 31.4Roadblock Results:(Sent by Brian)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: yeah this isn’t very good haha. if I’m being blunt I find it quite annoying and generic. the little looped vocal sample that runs throughout some of the song is no good, and the chorus is quite irritating. aside from those things the song just has no personality. (4.3)
Samo: This was...a choice. It’s not a bad song (ignoring the pitched-up vocal loop), but it stands out as a weaker choice in a set of songs this strong. It doesn’t help that the song isn’t really interesting enough to distract from or make up for its weaknesses. (6.2)
Lordeftones: Generic beat, awful vocals. Nothing really for me to latch onto her. (3)
mitchwolf: this is just a bop to dance to...otherwise its not a good tune vocal wise (6)
Overall Score: 19.5
you two weren't doing too badly after the detour, but your roadblock put you in last place by over 6 points, which unfortunately means you've been eliminated from PAR. thanks for playing!

Leg 7: Venice & DublinChallenge #1: Roadblock (Venice)What is a roadblock? In these challenges, only one member of the team can come up with a song to send. No consulting. You'll be on the honor system here. Send in your group pm who will do this road block. They will then without consulting their teammate see the theme and send the song in individual pms. tl;dr only one person sends a song, pick who that is in the group pms, then and only then they see the theme
Challenge #2: Detour (Dublin)What is a detour? In these challenges, two themes will be available, and teams will choose to send a song for the one they feel more confident in. Be sure to specify which theme you are sending for Detour Theme: The Trinity or Folk Affinity The Trinity: Dublin contains the oldest university in Ireland: Trinity College. The college was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth. For this detour, you must send a song by a band or group that contains three members. OR Folk Affinity: Dublin is known for all the Irish folk bands that can be heard playing nearly every night all over the city. For this detour, you must send a folk song.
And be sure to play this leg extra well, because after this leg not one but two teams will be no more!
consult with your teammate and get your songs in within 36 hours or else your team will NOT have a song in that category and will get an automatic 0/10. Feel free to ask myself and Samo any and all questions you may have. The world is waiting for you. Travel safe. Go!
