American Idiot: Vocally, this sounds a lot like Brandon Flowers which for me as a huge Killers fan is definitely not a bad thing. The instrumentation is done so well and consistent throughout the song. This was definitely one I'll come back to. Hell, I need to get into more of their stuff. I don't know enough. (8.5)

American Idiot: Another "You're going to hate me..." ranking. I know this song is legendary, but I've never been a fan of Prince unfortunately. Just not for me I guess, but I do appreciate the instrumentation at least. (6.8)

Lordeftones: Can't really give this one a low rating since it's one of the 'head's best songs. Jhom Yorke's crooning actually works on this track and it's actually quite beautiful and melancholy. (8.5)

It has a great meaning behind it, but I just didn't care for it lyrically. American Idiot: I mean how could I not honor that this is absolute classic when it comes to 80's music and the whole genre of synthpop in general. The whole variety of sounds and beats throughout the song continue to impress me after hearing this now for probably the 500th time in my life. I'm still kicking myself for not participating in the New Order Top 10 on that we do on the Rock section. I would love to one day do a discog run for them. (8.8)

Samo: I love the lyrics here, and splitting the song into two parts helps it feel shorter than it is, despite being the longest song here by quite a bit. I do like the beat, but some parts of it (like the twinkling sounds at the start of the song) are a little annoying. (8.3)

American Idiot: Those who know my tastes in music know that I am NOT a fan of much of anything R&B-related and I haven't really liked anything I've heard from Frank Ocean before. However, I was able to appreciate this song for quite a few reasons and totally understand why it currently has a 4.12 rating on RYM. His voice actually sounded good to me on this one and funky electric vibe that it has going. I didn't even mind that the song is almost ten minutes long and it didn't feel like it dragged on. (7.2)

rom: the way this song progresses is absolutely insane, with segments so clear, yet flowing so smooth, you’d think robert fripp produced it. the production is so good, and these synths, in all parts of pyramids, are the best. frank’s vocals also work incredibly well over both the dark synthpop instrumental of the first half and over the haunting trap instrumental of the second half. so many moments that i would classify as “heavenly”, it would be a perfect track if it weren’t for the somewhat shaky lyrics, but i can’t knock it too much for that. Samo: I used to not like this at all, and while it’s grown on me a lot since I first joined Pulse, it’s still one of the weaker detour songs this round. The way the production explodes at the start of the chorus is pretty satisfying, but the bridge and outro don’t do much for me. (7.4)

American Idiot: Right away, you have to know that my experience with The Weeknd is only the super big hits he's done. Vocally, the dude definitely has amazing pipes and there are quite a few songs that I could absolutely rank high here. This was a first listen for me and I have to say, I didn't like it at all. I can't stand the sound of autotune and this was all throughout the song. I also didn't like the lyrics one bit. I wouldn't care to ever return to this one. Sorry, everyone. (4.4)

Samo: I didn’t think anyone would go for Big Money, but I’m glad this was sent; Gaga is at her best making pop music with more straightforward production, and this chorus is one of her absolute best. It really helps balance out the weirder production in the verses. (9.8)

American Idiot: While not much of a Pop music fan, I can't deny how this has always gotten me to stop what I'm doing and dance the hell out. Even if one isn't a fan of Lady Gaga's, you have to honor her legacy years down the line with a hit like this one. (7.8)

Samo: Justin’s vocals are usually my least favourite part of his songs, and that holds true here, but it’s still one of his better songs. I do think this song could work just as well if “...Comes Around” was cut out, but it’s a good song nonetheless. (7.6)

American Idiot: Again, definitely not something I'd typically listen to, but I liked this a lot more than I expected to. Nice catchy beats and Justin shows off his vocals very well in this song. Another song where I didn't mind it being so long at almost 7 1/2 minutes as the tempo changes up nicely about 5-6 minutes into it. (8.3)

rom: karmas a bitch huh? well this song goes hard but there’s no reason for it to last 7 and a half minutes, and i don’t mean that in a way like gabe meant, i just think that beat switch at around the 5 and a half minute mark is completely unnecessary, justin timberlake rapping at the end just ruins it (6.7)
