finishing at 3rd/7th for the seventh leg in a row we have...3. Dylo (Mylo13 💜 & Daryl the Beryl)Overall Score: 92.7 | Roadblock Rank: #1 | Special Roadblock Rank: #3 | Detour Rank: #7Roadblock Results:(Sent by Mylo)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I’m not too familiar with Kate Bush aside from the obvious but this is a pretty good song. her cursive singing sounds pretty good here and I like the vocal effects used at different points of the song. the piano playing isn’t too complex but it fits well with the other instruments (8.6)Samo: Kate Bush is an artist I really want to like more than I do, but like a lot of her songs I really like this without quite loving it. Her vocals are cursive excellent, but the production doesn’t really interest me until the last couple minutes. (8.5))Geometrical: I was taken by surprise by the irish folk instrumentation that kicked in a third of the way into the song, but... it somehow works! Kate's voice is just as elegant as usual. I appreciate the storytelling, even if the songwriting is not quite top tier for Kate Bush. But then again... it's Kate Bush, you just don't rank her low. (8.6)Spectrum Pulse: ...it's Kate Bush. Ergo it's cheating, even with a questionable remastering that feels a little tinny and thin at spots, but she's still one of the most dynamic, intense, and compelling women to ever write music. (9)Overall Score: 34.7Special Roadblock Results:(Sent by Daryl)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I remember this song was in that NOW! That’s What I Call Music rankdown I held hostage. this wasn’t one of the reveals I had to hold hostage though, since it came dead last. it’s an obnoxious track with a headache inducing chorus. this really need to be nearly 5 minutes long? (2)Samo: Yikes. Somehow not the worst song here, but everything about this is horrendous. Fred Durst has one of my least favourite voices in “music”, and these lyrics are disgusting, but there’s slightly worse to be found in this group. (0.4)Juggalo: Hahahahahaha Classic. This is by far not their best song (My Way) but this is by far not their worst song (Y'all could've sent in their cover of Faith you know that right? Actually scratch that nobody liked that). It's serviceable, not special rhymes mixed with catchy chorus and some actual guitar. I can dog it (7.5)woods: (5)Overall Score: 14.9 -> 25.1Detour Results:(Van Gogh)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: one of my favorite Elton songs from my favorite Elton album . the melodies are fantastic and I don’t think it’s any secret that I love Elton, so his piano playing and singing here really connect for me. great pick! (9.9)
Samo: I’m not overly familiar with Elton, but this is one of his better songs I’ve heard. I really like the melodies here, aside from the one in the bridge. The lyrics are also pretty strong, and I like Elton’s vocals here. (7.8)
Max: Now that we're in a better mood, Elton John comes 'round to mellow us out again by revisiting yellow in the classic Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. It's not a favourite but I do enjoy the chorus of this one. Used the right way as an audio backdrop, it can be very effective. (7)
ry4n: Elton's songs can be so effortlessly melodic. This one is also quite reflective. It pensively drifts around in the verses, and then it leaps into the “AHHHHHHH” exclamations. But it's that “AHHHHH” bit that I don't really like. (8)
Overall Score: 32.7
another top 3 finish puts you two in the top half, but you'll want to make sure you don't return to 7th, or you could be going as soon as next leg! you two will get a +0.8 bonus next leg

beating 5th place by 0.1 points we have...4. ;-; (shruggie & DistrictTwelve )Overall Score: 89.5 | Roadblock Rank: #4 | Special Roadblock Rank: #4 | Detour Rank: #8Roadblock Results:(Sent by D12)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a cool little groovy track! I think the beat is pretty great here, and while the rest of the song isn’t the most memorable thing ever the beat carries it a fair amount! (8.2)Samo: The beat really carries this; it’s the only part of the song I can remember even after multiple listens, but it is a great beat. If the rest of the song were more interesting, I’d give this a higher score. (8.1)Geometrical: Perfectly fine mix of synthpop, alt-dance, indietronica, nu-disco and whatever else falls in that mix. (8)Spectrum Pulse: RIP Steve Strange. A textured and rattling dance floor with some terrific guitar rollick and a great synth bass that could be a hit in any era. (8)Overall Score: 32.3Special Roadblock Results:(Sent by shruggie)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is barely a song lol. it’s a viral video that happened to have some background music in it which became a hit despite being incredibly irritating in every single possible way. (0.4)Samo: fear. (1.7)Juggalo: Perfect fun, incredibly catchy song that paved the way for Baby Shark, Also THAT FALSETTO THO ❤❤❤. For the Third and Final time, you just happened to send for the wrong judge because I find this a perfect song, sorry not sorry. (10)woods: (4)Overall Score: 16.1 -> 23.9Detour Results:(Van Gogh)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: it’s never been my favorite 70s classic but I still enjoy it quite a bit! the synth melody is pretty pleasant and for whatever reason I’ve always dug songs about weather/songs that use weather as a metaphor! a strong pick! (8.5)
Samo: There’s some amazing songs in this set, but this is nearly my favourite. I’ve seen people say the last 2 minutes drag the song down, but I love every part of this. The lyrics could come across as cheesy, but the song is so upbeat it’s hard not to sing along whenever it comes on. (9.7)
Max: Switching gears a bit, things get bouncier with ELO's Mr. Blue Sky. I won't lie. I don't know this, but it sure takes the blue out of blue. This should really be the theme for Old Navy's next ad campaign. It's great. (7)
ry4n: Oh yeah, the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 song lol. Well, this is just as eccentric as the other ELO songs I've heard (“DON'T BRING ME DOWN.. BRUCE!”). “Mr Blue Sky” has like 716 different things going on. There's a carefree, uplifting bounce to it. I really like the breezy melody, but then the song gets weird in the last 2 minutes. (7.5)
Overall Score: 32.7
your detour performance was tied for last, but stronger roadblock choices barely got you two into the top half, so you'll get a +0.6 bonus next leg

barely falling back to the bottom half we have...5. Team Pickles (Web & lyhom)Overall Score: 89.4 | Roadblock Rank: #7 | Special Roadblock Rank: #2 | Detour Rank: #5Roadblock Results:(Sent by lyhom)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I actually think I knew this one beforehand! I dig the production here, and the vocals themselves are quite strong, even if some of the vocal melodies aren’t the best. the song’s got a nice low key groove to it, and overall I quite like it (8.4)Samo: This is my favourite song of the set, and one I’ve been returning to since I heard it last year. The bridge does bring the song down a little, but the groove in the verses in strong enough to make this a great song overall. (9)Geometrical: Wait... we ranked this in James' Pop RD! (Oh, and go do James' "Indie" rankdown, before he pesters you to do it. You're welcome, James). As for the track itself, well.. it's fine, but nothing about it seems out of the ordinary to me, whether is the standard poppy beat, the vocals or the lyrical content. It's certainly not bad, but it's kind of just inoffensive. (6.9)Spectrum Pulse: well, glossy 2010s boy band vocal harmonies aside with a fidgety groove and some okay guitar work, this is passable enough until the synths get a little too tinny to back the song's pleading, which is an awkward match to the attempts at being suave on the verses. In other words, the sort of passable pop more notable for its flaws than its quality. (6)Overall Score: 30.3Special Roadblock Results:(Sent by Web)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this wasn’t as big of a hit as some of the other ones but I remember hearing this on the radio constantly in 2017 so you get a pass. I’m no Jeanfele though, and unlike Just B. this song does not remind me of my childhood. instead I find it incredibly irritating. it feels like they just tried to make the most mind numbingly lame and annoying song ever, and they got pretty damn close to making it. (1)Samo: There are certainly worse songs here, but none annoy me and simultaneously make me cringe quite as much as this. Pat Monahan sounds terrible as per usual, and the song drags on horribly. It definitely feels like the longest song here, even if it isn’t quite. (0.6)Juggalo: There's not much to review here, but that's Train in a nutshell. Absolute earworm of a chorus, fun little verses that don't mean much...only reason I don't have it higher is because this is their most forgettable song. I just listened to it again for this review and despite remembering the pattern of the verses, I can't remember any words and then that damn chorus kicks in. So, decent effort. (7.5)woods: (5.5)Overall Score: 14.6 -> 25.4Detour Results:(Van Gogh)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: fun fact this is actually one of the few songs I know how to play on the guitar. it made me appreciate the song more as learning how to play it forced me to like pay attention to all the different melodies. I think it’s probably in my top 5 Coldplay songs and I’m going through a bit of a Coldplay phase right now so you two lucked out here haha (10)
Samo: Unpopular opinion time: I don’t like a lot of Parachutes. Fortunately, Yellow is probably my favourite song on it, though the problems I have with a lot of Coldplay’s songs are still here, namely Chris Martin’s vocals, but they’re better than usual here, making for a good song overall. (7.9)
Max: From black to Yellow, by Coldplay, we keep things in the range of sombre, which is how I like it. Coldplay might get a lot of flack now, and they probably did earlier on too, but I've always had a soft spot for Yellow. Even as I burnt myself out on past favs Clocks and Viva La Vida, Yellow always managed to blend in so if I were to choose any song by them to play, it would likely be this. (8)
ry4n: Coldplay is very hit or miss with me. Their melodies can be really strong, but a lot of their songs are just boring. “Yellow” is somewhere in the middle. The guitar line is probably the best thing about it. (7)
Overall Score: 32.9
you two were very close to 6th, but had one of the best special roadblocks (in a challenge where many teams did poorly), so you'll get a +0.4 bonus next leg

falling hard after last leg we have...6. Canadian Ducks (willapted33 & matteeeb )Overall Score: 88.9 | Roadblock Rank: #2 | Special Roadblock Rank: #8 | Detour Rank: #3Roadblock Results:(Sent by will)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I dig this beat quite a bit! the vocals fit it quite a bit, and overall the song has a great groove to it. this sounds like a smash hit to me, I’m surprised it has so little popularity (9.0)Samo: I’ve been meaning to check out What’s Your Pleasure? for a while, and this is pretty promising; it’s no “Spotlight”, but it’s good, fun dance-pop, and one of my favourite songs of the set. (8.3)Geometrical: I've been hearing a lot about this artist lately, and to be frank, I thought this was going to be another of those artists that are somehow massively acclaimed yet that I can't consider any more than 'decent'. Well... I was wrong this time around. Ridiculously catchy, groovy, with some awesome 70s funky influences. Delectable synths, punchy bassline and some good vocals to boot. (9.5)Spectrum Pulse: why pick the tinniest slice of 80s-inspired synth funk to make your unimpressive Janet imitation? Underscores the overlooked truth that if you can't adequately convey intensity or tension in this era, your song just won't have the same soul, not matter how much you're trying to control it. (6)Overall Score: 32.8Special Roadblock Results:(Sent by Zedd)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: lame as hell but I’ve never totally hated it. like it’s pretty bad, don’t get me wrong, but it’s never stood out as particularly awful to me. I will say that it *drags* on - like this s**t is so uninteresting it feels like it goes on forever. (3.1)Samo: Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and the only way I can really explain why I like this, because this is pretty mediocre in every way, but I really enjoy it. Sorry, you two, this was easily my favourite song of the set. (7.6)Juggalo: Yeah no, I absolutely Stan this song and whoever chose it just f**ked themselves. From American Idol exits to Singstar Pop to Drunken Karaoke to Hacking my copy of Rock Band 2 just to play it...yeah to me this is a perfect emotional song (10)woods: (2)Overall Score: 22.7 -> 17.3Detour Results:(Van Gogh)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I like the beat here quite a bit! the vocals aren’t my favorite thing ever but the immaculate production more than makes up for it. the lyrics are really well written as well, I like the detail (8.3)
Samo: Yes! This was the first song I thought of when I saw the theme, so I’m ecstatic to see it here. Everything about this song is basically perfect, and it has some of the best storytelling I’ve ever heard in a song. (9.9)
Max: Moving along to another song I'm unfamiliar with but one I'm actually going to add on Apple Music now. What a pleasant discovery! (10)
ry4n: The production has a nice retro vibe, while the lyrics are so ominous. I could feel the guilt being thrown at me! (9)
Overall Score: 37.1
you're only 0.6 points behind #4, but under-performing in the special roadblock pushed you down to the bottom 3. you'll get a +0.2 bonus next leg

falling to the bottom of the pack we have...7. Sambal Wrap (Sambalada & wrip)Overall Score: 87.4 | Roadblock Rank: #3 | Special Roadblock Rank: #6 | Detour Rank: #6Roadblock Results:(Sent by samb)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I really like the energy on this track! I think the beat is pretty cool, and the vocals are good enough. my biggest complaints would be that the song doesn’t really stand out much, and it kinda loses momentum at the end, but I still like it. (7.8)Samo: Were this song a minute shorter, I’d love it, but it’s still a very good song overall. I love the production in the first three minutes, but the last minute feels like a different song entirely, and not in a good way. (8.2)Geometrical: There was an interesting progression to this song, with distinctive instrumental parts, tempo changes, which were accompanied by some real smooth and elegant vocals. Something held me back from fully appreciating the song - I think I got bored with the repeated "Eli's comin'" after a while, but it was still solid enough. (7.8)Spectrum Pulse: vintage late 60s pop with the killer basslines, great horns, and stacked vocals that amp up the menace and flair for this coming heartbreaker. Holds up over fifty years later, even if the slowdown on the outro will not be for everyone. (9)Overall Score: 32.8Special Roadblock Results:(Sent by wripwrap)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this song is just annoying lol. I will admit to enjoying a handful of Meghan Trainor tracks but this is emphatically not one of them. it’s also a case of good intention but *awful* execution in the lyrics. (2.3)Samo: I used to like this a lot more, but I still can’t bring myself to completely hate it, if only because the beat actually has some potential, were it not paired with lyrics this toxic. Even as a part-time Meghan Trainor stan, this isn’t it. (3)Juggalo: The only reason I scored any positive points is because I am the Bear Lover of Pulse, I am *ahem* All About That Bass, but there's nothing redeemable about it. No special lyrics, no emotion, and quite frankly the fact the bitch had any career on this song was because of what 2014 was offering (WE MADE DARK HORSE AND ALL OF ME #1 SONGS, WHY?!?). (4.5)woods: (9.4)Overall Score: 19.2 -> 20.8Detour Results:(Van Gogh)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this track has some great low key vibes! I like the instrumental and I think the vocals are pretty strong also. The Wizard of Oz may not be my favorite movie ever but I still think the main line of the song is quite cute! (8.6)
Samo: I’m just not huge on the vocals, and the lyrics are cute, but not as good as a lot of this set’s. The beat is really good, though, and carries the song from a 7 to an 8. (8)
Max: And we finish off on more yellow brick, this time without the space. This is another song I didn't know and am pleased to discover. Love the transition halfway through. (10)
ry4n: The instrumentation is certainly rich and interesting. Also, this song has two completely different styles in the first and second half. The former section I found boring and the vocals were not my taste, but the second half was pleasant enough. But overall, this is my least favourite song in the category. (6)
Overall Score: 32.8
this is your first appearance in the bottom 2, but you avoided last place by nearly 5 points. you won't get a bonus next leg
which means the eliminated team must be...8. Latino Gang 😎 (MoD & Leo ✔)Overall Score: 82.5 | Roadblock Rank: #6 | Special Roadblock Rank: #7 | Detour Rank: #4Roadblock Results:(Sent by MoD)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I don’t like it quite as much as “BALD!” but this is still a very solid track! I think JPEGMAFIA has a super impressive flow which certainly shows on this track, and I also dig the beat. great track! (9.2)Samo: Peggy’s flow is impressive here, but the production isn’t something I particularly like, so I can’t say I really enjoy it or see myself listening to it again after this. (6.8)Geometrical: The rapping was decent, but I didn't fully get into it. Instrumentally, the track gets better as the synths progressively kick in. Maybe a tad short for me to fully appreciate. Still good, but not great. (7.5)Spectrum Pulse: Peggy goes hip house with a remarkably textured and old-school mix pulling back to the fractured, dusty atmospherics with a thicker knock that almost recalls some 90s house, a might he can flex amidst his anxious paranoia; also, he's not wrong about his production issues with mainstream hip-hop. This is a producer and rapper slamming down a winning hand. (8)Overall Score: 31.5Special Roadblock Results:(Sent by Leo)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I’ve always really liked the way this song sounds. it’s totally catchy and infectious. those lyrics are really gross though, and they make the song quite hard to listen to. wish they wouldn’t have wasted such a great baseline on such a disgusting song (3)Samo: It took me until earlier this year to realise how much I truly hate this, but it’s gross af. The beat isn’t good, but it’s the only thing stopping this from being a 0 (and the fact that it’s somehow a step above a certain other song here). (0.1)Juggalo: I do not get why anyone hates this song and I never will. Excellent vocals, wonderful production, catchy chorus, a rap verse from T.I. that is absolutely fun to rap along with...yeah like other songs in this set, you kinda f**ked yourself. (10)woods: (9.2)Overall Score: 22.3 -> 17.7Detour Results:(Cat Show)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I’ve never really loved Florence + the Machine but this song’s pretty good. I like the production, and I think the chorus has some cool energy to it. not really my favorite thing but not too bad either! (7.4)
Samo: I love how the production builds from the acoustic guitar at the start of the song, but becomes louder while not sounding cluttered. Florence also sounds fantastic here. It’s not quite my favourite F+TM song, but it’s up there. (9.4)
Max: Taking a detour to Amsterdam with this soundtrack of songs from the rainbow and one about a dog. The dog song, Dog Days Are Over, was my introduction to the greatness that is Florence + the Machine. I think it's an awesome representation of indie pop from the late 2000s and it's always a joy to hear it in random places. (8)
ry4n: The instrumentation, with the harps and percussion, is definitely unique. The contrast between softer verses and the bellowing chorus is executed well. Add in Florence's signature howling, and I can see why this song was her breakthrough. Most of Ceremonials > this, though. (8.5)
Overall Score: 33.3
when everyone performs really well in the detour, a decent performance won't be enough to counteract two weaker roadblock performances, which unfortunately means you've been eliminated from the race. thanks for playing!

Leg 10: Copenhagen & StockholmChallenge #1: Detour (Copenhagen)What is a detour? In these challenges, two themes will be available, and teams will choose to send a song for the one they feel more confident in. Be sure to specify which theme you are sending forDetour Theme: Happy Days or Mermaid WaysHappy Days: Due to the short work days, more vacation days, and free college tuition, among other things, in Copenhagen, Copenhagen is often referred to as the happiest city in the world. For this detour you must send a song that talks about being happy or happy about something.ORMermaid Ways: Copenhagen has a famous bronze Little Mermaid statue, based on the Danish fairy tale and later Disney musical. For this detour, you must send a song from a musical.Challenge #2: Roadblock (Stockholm)What is a roadblock? In these challenges, only one member of the team can come up with a song to send. No consulting. You'll be on the honor system here. Send in your group pm who will do this road block. They will then without consulting their teammate see the theme and send the song in individual pms. tl;dr only one person sends a song, pick who that is in the group pms, then and only then they see the theme
Optional Challenge: Fast Forward (Stockholm)What is a fast forward? This is an optional bonus challenge. If you finish first, you automatically receive 15 extra points for the leg, all but solidifying a win for you. However, if you do not get first, then you receive a -3 penalty on your final score. Tell us if you want to play and then we will tell you the theme. There is no penalty or bonus if you choose not to play it
Twist: Yield VoteA favorite twist from season 1, the yield vote is back! The way the yield vote works is that each team votes for one other team that they'd like to see receive a penalty. The team with the most votes will receive a -5 penalty. In the event of a tie, all tied teams receive a -5 penalty. If you do not select a team to yield, then your team receives a vote. You may not discuss strategies with other teams, all decisions must be made by just you and your teammate.
consult with your teammate and get your songs in within 36 hours or else your team will NOT have a song in that category and will get an automatic 0/10. Feel free to ask myself and Samo any and all questions you may have. The world is waiting for you. Travel safe. Go!

here's our exit interview with MoD & Leo ✔
how do you feel about your time in the race?
MoD: Although I feel good and this was a great experience, I still feel disappointed considering we were really consistent most of the race, I feel like we deserved a little bit more
Leo: Ehh we were robbed, hands down, lol. It was fun, was great to know MoD more, we don't interact that much and I think we complemented each other pretty well with our different tastes. At least we had a round were we had a dominant score and not all the teams can be proud of that.
do you think you could've/should've done anything different?
MoD: We? No, but the judges...
Leo: Nothing, the pick for the judges wasn't on our hands so...
any predictions?
MoD: I think every team could possibly win, but if I had to guess one, Matt and Tanooki have been performing really strongly, so them
Leo: I'm rooting for The Lights

Caged being generous to those worst songs in the special roadblock is a thing.
On a lighter note, I think Daryl is having some positive influence on Mylo. He sent a Kate Bush song!
Basicness is on its way out!

If I was in the game and daring enough to try the musical detour, I would've suggested one of these five

Basicness is on its way out! Ok we get it, my taste in music sucks but hopefully my Madness selections make up for everything. I want to prove to everyone I'm not a joke

So if your taste sucks, then so does mine. After all, it was I who submitted Bonbon.

Yield Vote Results:
First, a note. Back in Leg 2, MoD & Leo ✔ received an advantage called the Yield Influencer for winning the leg. This advantage allowed them to either steal another team's vote at a yield vote, or prevent themselves from being yielded at a yield vote. After being eliminated they chose to give it to The Lights, who decided to use it to prevent themselves from being yielded here. So if The Lights get a majority of yield votes the yield is canceled and no one will be yielded
The Lights (walt91 & Lukas ) yielded The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber Dylo (Mylo13 💜 & Daryl the Beryl ) yielded The Lights Sambal Wrap (Sambalada & wrip ) yielded The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber (@matthewlam & tanooki ) yielded The Lights ;-; (shruggie & DistrictTwelve ) yielded The Lights The Canadian Ducks (willapted33 & matteeeb ) yielded The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber Team Pickles (Web & lyhom ) yielded The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber
so The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber have received a majority of votes and will get 5 points deducted from their final score
