riding off a Fast Forward to score their second win we have...1. Sambal Wrap (Sambalada & wrip )Overall Score: 86.2 | Detour Rank: #2 | Roadblock Rank: #4 | Fast Forward Rank: #1 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0Detour Results:(Happy Days)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: iconic! this is like the ultimate feel good track. itās got those good chilled out happy 60s vibes, and James Brown is simply a fantastic vocalist. that little looped riff in the chorus is also classic. love this one (9.8)Samo: As the title suggests, itās definitely a feel-good song, but not one I can really enjoy with repeated listens because there isnāt a ton of variety in the lyrics, and it being less than 3 minutes doesnāt help that. (7.9)Hamed: This is a song that definitely ways makes feel upbeat and happy, James Browm delivers a great performance over a great instrumental that just never fails to please me. (9.4)Leo: This is a classic, I canāt deny that. It sticks your head easily. Even if this song is short it turns tiring at the end of it. (9.1)Overall Score: 36.2Roadblock Results:(Sent by wripwrap)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this song is good, but I think itās probably the weakest one here. I like the chilled out vibes and Noname gives a strong performance, but I donāt find it super gripping. still good though! (8)Samo: Itās the shortest song here, and also happens to be my favourite. Nonameās flow is excellent; it allows her to pack a lot of content into 95 seconds without it being overwhelming. The production also fits the laidback flow of the song really well. (9)fearless: Love the soulful instrumental/beat and the rapping style complements it too. The rap feels more like opening up a conversation rather than rapping to me, but I actually like it that way on this track. Love this choice, kudos to whoever submitted this!MoD: Probably the best female rapper in the game right now. Her wordplay is great and the beat is also amazing. Really solid pick (9)Overall Score: 35Fast Forward Results:Judge's Thoughts:Nick: not that my thoughts on the song really matter since you two were the only ones to do the FF again but I like it, itās a cool track (8.1)
Samo: lmao. Again? It doesnāt matter what score I give this, but for what itās worth itās a nice song, though there were a lot of better choices for the theme imo, even from Rumours. I really like the bassline, but the vocals donāt really interest me. (7.8)
Overall Score: 15.9
well congrats for being the only team willing to gamble with the FF, it clearly paid off for you! you'll get a +1.3 bonus next leg

finally breaking their streak of 3rd/7ths we have...2. Dylo (Mylo13 š & Daryl the Beryl)Overall Score: 71.8 | Detour Rank: #5 | Roadblock Rank: #1 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.8Detour Results:(Happy Days)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a true classic. the song is super unique and I love every second of it. the rapped parts are probably my favorite, but I also really dig the part towards the end with the slow build with the guitar and the singing. great track! (9.6)Samo: I know this is a classic, but Iāve never really liked the vocals or the effects on them in the first verse. I do like the guitars a lot, and most of the production is cool, I just wish I liked the vocals more. (7.4)Hamed: I've never really been very into much from Gorillaz, I enjoy this song if it comes on but I never seek it out on my own tbh. (7.6)Leo: I love this and the only think I donāt really like at all are those laughs during the song, but overall is a solid song. (9.3)Overall Score: 33.9Roadblock Results:(Sent by Daryl)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Iām not super familiar with a lot The Smithsā discography but this is one of my favorite songs Iāve heard from them! The guitar work is really intricate and I dig the lyrics quite a bit! (9.4)Samo: The Smiths havenāt really interested me before, but this is great! The lyrics and guitar work are both great, and the vocals also fit the tone of the song really well. (8.9)fearlessarrow: This is a beautiful and delicate piece of music. The lyrics are simple but yet so effective - the state that the narrator is in is actually really sad to think about, but I think I can sort of relate. (9.3)MoD: This song is beautiful. The instrumental is gorgeous, and man, as deplorable as Morrisey is, he probably has the best voice of the past 50 years. Just incredible (9.5)Overall Score: 37.1
Result: if not for the Fast Forward, you guys would've won by 0.6 points, but congrats on your first top 2! you'll get a +0.8 bonus next leg

scoring the last spot on the podium we have...3. The Lights (walt91 & Lukas )Overall Score: 71.6 | Detour Rank: #4 | Roadblock Rank: #5 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.5Detour Results:(Happy Days)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I really like this one! the guitars are really nice, and I dig the lyrics here. that chorus is also really catchy, which helps make this already great track even better! (9.4)Samo: I enjoy this a lot, more than most of the songs in this set, but I also donāt think it fits the theme very well in its sound or lyrics, which made me take a point off my final score. Otherwise, itās a very enjoyable song. (8.3)Hamed: KT Tunstl is an artist I truly honestly forget to check out a full album of. I have always liked this one, though Black Horse and The Cherry Tree is better. Definitely a great song in its own right though. (8.4)Leo: The beat of this just screams positivity for me, the lyrics I donāt think fit the theme at all, but I love this song so I can get over that. (9.6)Overall Score: 35.7Roadblock Results:(Sent by Walt)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: the synths here are really cool - I love the groove theyāve got going on. this honestly doesnāt really feel like anything else Iāve heard from Tame Impala, but I donāt mean that in a bad way. I think itās compellingly unique! (9)
Samo: This is the best Tame Impala song Iāve heard, which can mostly be attributed to the guitars, though the synth work is also strong. Like with a lot of their songs, the vocals donāt really work for me, but itās a very good song overall. (8.4)
fearless: Tame Impala is one of the artists I have been getting into recently and I really enjoy the psychedelic vibes this song has. I feel like he shines best when songs are longer than this one though. (8.8)
MoD: Although not my favorite Tame Impala song by any means, this is still really catchy. Kevin Parker is like the master of great basslines tbh lol. This track is really groovy, it sets up a whole vibe tbh (8.2)
Overall Score: 34.4
congrats on continuing your incredible consistency throughout the race! you'll be getting a +0.6 bonus next leg

barely falling short of the top 3 we have...4. Canadian Ducks (willapted33 & matteeeb)Overall Score: 71.2 | Detour Rank: #3 | Roadblock Rank: #3 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.2Detour Results:(Happy Days)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: probably my favorite big hit of the year! I really dig how complex the instrumental is, and the song has some nice upbeat energy to it! a great track (9.2)Samo: The production is really upbeat but still relaxing, which helps the song feel pretty happy, but I donāt think the lyrics fit the theme as well as most of the other songs here. Still, itās a great song and one of my favourite songs here. (8.9)Hamed: One of my favorites of the year, Harry delivers a nostalgic yet simultaneously modern pop song that highlights his vocals really well here. (9)Leo: I didnāt like this when was charting on Pop but is a decent song. I honestly donāt think this fits the theme at all, so Iām going to subtract a few points (8.7)Overall Score: 35.8Roadblock Results:(Sent by Zedd)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I really like this song! the guitar work is super intricate and it works incredibly well for the track. I also think the horns blend in super nicely, and the vocals being as strong as they are is just the cherry on top! (9.5)Samo: This isnāt one of my favourites this set, which I think is mainly down to the vocals, because I really like the guitar riff that runs through the song, and the accordion (?) is very welcome. The lyrics are also pretty interesting and well-written. (7.9)fearlessarrow: The accordion that comes in the middle of the song is a really nice addition - otherwise I still wouldāve liked it but wouldāve enamored me less. I really like it when songs start layering instrumentals over the course of a song. Iāve only listened to āHolland, 1945ā and āIn the Aeroplane Over the Seaā before this from them, but having liked this one too makes me curious about the whole In the Aeroplane Over the Sea album, I should give it a listen some time. Technically this song is exactly 2 minutes long which means itās not less than 2 minutes long but Iāll let that slide... (8.6)MoD: This song is so nice and warm Jeff Magnum really can connect to one. The instrumentation is really nice, and the lyrics are beautiful, really. This is an album that you need to listen to before you die (9.2)Overall Score: 35.2
Result: #2-#4 were very close, but your lower bonus from last leg puts you in the middle of the pack. you'll get a +0.4 bonus next leg

surviving their yield we have...5. The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber (@matthewlam & tanooki )Overall Score: 70 | Detour Rank: #1 | Roadblock Rank: #2 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1 (-5 Penalty From Yield)Detour Results:(Happy Man)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: how can you not smile when that chorus comes on? I like the drum riff that builds up into said chorus, which is simply fantastic. I think you really nailed the theme here! (9.8)Samo: Iāve heard the chorus of this song a lot, but hadnāt sat down to listen to the song in full before now, and Iām really glad I did, because this is excellent. The lyrics are cute, but not exceptional, but the production is phenomenal, and the chorus melody is joyous. (9.2)Hamed: Probably one of my favorite songs of all time, its a simple yet catchy addictive melody that I have enjoyed ever since I was a kid lol. Very nostalgic vibes with this one. (10)Leo: This song is great and if you match the theme and you imagine yourself living on Copenhagen under those conditions and walking around the city, this is the song you could use as background. Well done! (9.8)Overall Score: 38.8Roadblock Results:(Sent by Tanooki)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: you cant really go wrong with Simon & Garfunkel. I love the guitar here, and Iāve also had a big soft spot for songs about the passage of time so this track connects with me in that sense. a truly wonderful song! (9.8)
Samo: I donāt like this nearly as much as Bridge Over Troubled Water, but itās still a good song. The guitar is beautiful, as are the lyrics, but this is the one song here I think Iād like a lot more as a longer song.(8.3)
fearless: I like the inspiration behind the song and how a nursery rhyme was incorporated into the song without being forced. How the song changes tone from July onwards so sudden got me too. (8.4)
MoD: I've not heard much from Simon and Garfunkel, but what I've listened to is really nice, and this is no exception. Really relaxing song, the guitar work is really nice and charming, and the vocals are also on point, really well done song (8.7)
Overall Score: 35.2
you two killed it this leg, so despite your yield you're still top 5! you'll be getting a +0.2 bonus next leg

avoiding elimination by less than a point we have...6. ;-; (shruggie & DistrictTwelve)Overall Score: 65.5 | Detour Rank: #7 | Roadblock Rank: #6 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.6Detour Results:(Happy Days)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: not my favorite U2 track but itās still solid. I like the harmonization of the backing vocals and the instrumentation is pretty cool also. it just doesnāt quite connect with me as much as some other U2 tracks though (8.1)Samo: I love the production on this, and the lyrics fit the theme without having to mention āhappyā every other line, on top of being really good. My only complaint would be the vocals, but theyāre still not bad. (8.7)Hamed: I've never been INTO U2 tbh, this song included. Its a solid song and good radio filler but I've never really paid it much of any attention, it also melodically always reminds me of the annoying music you'd here in like The Sims lol. (7.3)Leo: I admit not being the biggest U2 fan, but I do like a couple of songs by them. This is one I can hear and try to get the positivism from it but at the same time I felt like turns boring at the middle of the song. (8)Overall Score: 32.1Roadblock Results:(Sent by shruggie)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I love the guitars here! the other synthy work throughout the track is also really cool! I think Bowie does a great job on the track, and itās overall a memorable slice of Bowieās music! (8.8)Samo: The guitars here really are the songās best asset, but itās a pretty good song all around, although the vocal performance is far from my favourite of Bowieās. Despite being less than 2 minutes, it does a good job making itself memorable. (8.3)fearlessarrow: Loving the guitars as soon as the song kicks off. That pretty much carries the song for me - the song is so short that idk what else to say tbh, lol. (8.2)MoD: David Bowie is an artist I really like but I always feel like I'm missing something about his songs. This one is no different, it was pretty good, seriously, but I feel like there's something missing (7.5)Overall Score: 32.8
Result: you were very clearly in the bottom 2 this round, but a stronger roadblock performance saved you from elimination. you won't be getting a bonus next leg
which means the eliminated team must be...
7. Team Pickles (Web & lyhom)Overall Score: 64.7 | Detour Rank: #6 | Roadblock Rank: #7 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.4Detour Results:(Happy Days)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this has a very cool vibe to it. I find it very soothing, and while I donāt find it quite as memorable as the other songs here, I still think itās a pretty cool song! (8.3)Samo: This is the only song I hadnāt even heard of in this set, but I quite like it! It might be my unfamiliarity with the song, but I find it a lot less memorable than some of the other choices for this theme. (7.4)Hamed: This is my only discovery of this set and its a pretty pleasant song. I like the groovy energy it evokes and its a pretty enjoyable song, might grow on me with further listens but for now. (7.5)Leo: This is the only song in this set I didnāt know before and is a nice discovery. I like the beat but I feel like the lyrics are missing something. (9)Overall Score: 32.2Roadblock Results:(Sent by Web)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I like all the energy this track has. it can be a bit overwhelming at points, but in a good way. I do wish it a was a bit longer so it could have more build up, but itās still quite solid! (8.2)Samo: I can see the appeal of this song, but itās probably my least favourite in this set. The song has a lot of energy, so it was smart to keep it short, but that does make it sort of annoying upon repeat listens. (7.2)fearlessarrow: I donāt particularly like it when the vocals sounds a little drowned out by the instrumentals but I think I could look past it in this song because the guitar riff is energetic and keeps the song going for me but Iām not sure if I see what makes this song so great (still good though). (7.5)MoD: I definetely get why some people don't like them at all, but this song is so fun lol. It is like pure energy, the main riff is just so entertaining, the song just makes me want to dance every time I hear it. A total banger (9.2)Overall Score: 32.1
Result: unfortunately, this isn't a non-elimination leg, which means you've been eliminated from the race, but thanks for playing!

Leg 11: Saint Petersburg & MumbaiChallenge #1: Detour (Saint Petersburg)What is a detour? In these challenges, two themes will be available, and teams will choose to send a song for the one they feel more confident in. Be sure to specify which theme you are sending for Detour Theme: Split Off or Split MessageSplit Off: Saint Petersburg is in a way split off from other parts of Russia, as it is the largest city in the European part of Russia, as opposed to many of the other major cities in the country which are on the Asian side. For this detour, you must send a song from an artist who also split off, namely one who was in a band but then released solo work (the song sent should be from the solo work).ORSplit Message: The Hermitage, arguably the grandest museum in the world, resides in Saint Petersburg. Ironically, despite being such a large and grand museum and tourist attraction, the name āThe Hermitageā comes from the French word ermitage, meaning the āabode of a hermitā. For this detour, you must send a song that despite having lyrics that convey one emotion, the sound of the song does not match (ex. an upbeat dance song with sad lyrics).Challenge #2: Roadblock (Mumbai)What is a roadblock? In these challenges, only one member of the team can come up with a song to send. No consulting. You'll be on the honor system here. Send in your group pm who will do this road block. They will then without consulting their teammate see the theme and send the song in individual pms. tl;dr only one person sends a song, pick who that is in the group pms, then and only then they see the theme
Challenge #3: Intersection (Mumbai)What is an intersection? In these challenges, two teams are paired up and must complete the challenge together. The groups are based on the placements from last leg, with 1st being paired with 6th, 2nd with 5th, and 3rd with 4th. So here are the groups:
Sambal Wrap (Sambalada & wrip ) and ;-; (shruggie & DistrictTwelve ) Dylo (Mylo13 š & Daryl the Beryl ) and The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber (@matthewlam & tanooki ) The Lights (walt91 & Lukas ) and The Canadian Ducks (willapted33 & matteeeb )
Intersection Theme: Bollywood Bollywood, the film capital of India, is located in Mumbai. For this intersection, you must send a song from a movie (the song must have been written for the movie, it canāt just be a song used in a movie).
consult with your teammate and get your songs in within 36 hours or else your team will NOT have a song in that category and will get an automatic 0/10. Feel free to ask myself and Samo any and all questions you may have. The world is waiting for you. Travel safe. Go!

jumping up for their second win we have...1. The Canadian Ducks (willapted33 & matteeeb)Overall Score: 105.9 | Detour Rank: #1 | Roadblock Rank: #2 | Intersection Rank: #3 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.4Detour Results:(Split Message)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: one of the best pop songs of last decade. the production has this nice energy to it, and I think the verses and chorus are varied just enough while still sounding cohesive. Kim Petrasā range on the song is also super impressive (9.9)Samo: Itās literally a perfect pop song thatās also one of my favourite songs of all time. The production is immaculate, and the vocal melodies, especially the chorus ones, are incredible. (10)Juan Carlos: This was good. I liked Kim's vocals and the production of the song as well, but I have to admit that I still don't find something special towards Kim and her discography yet. (7.5)Web: I really dig the production/instrumental on this song, I'm not fully on board with every Kim Petras song I've heard but this one pretty immediately sticks. The verses are super tight with the synth, drums and vocals all in sync and as the song slowly opens up as the parts diverge you can feel the build before it explodes into the chorus. Even when her vocals sit right on the border of shrill in the hook it ends up just making a more rewarding climax than coming off as annoying. Solid pop song. (8)Overall Score: 35.4Roadblock Results:(Sent by will)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I donāt think this is my favorite Aretha track but itās still really good! the chorus has some nice energy to it, and I think the lyrics are cute as well. itās a very nice love song, if one I donāt return to much (8.6)Samo: Itās a beautiful song, with some of Arethaās best vocals ever in the chorus and some great lyrics that help set it apart from a lot of other love songs. (9.7)jamesflame: I've said it before and I'll say it again. Aretha Franklin is an incredible vocalist. Plus she managed to make some really timeless songs given the limited production quality of those times. Great song (8.9)lyhom: (8.3)Overall Score: 35.5Intersection Results:(Sent with The Lights)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a pretty track. I like the guitar a lot, and I think Bradley Cooperās deep voice fits it really well. Gaga sounds good also. the crowd cheering is unnecessary though lol (8.9)
Samo: This being a #1 hit is still shocking to me, but it totally deserved it, being one of Gagaās best songs. Her and Bradley Cooper both sound fantastic, and the way the production builds is really impressive. On the other hand, the first minute does drag a little, so I canāt score this higher. (9.1)
jtd: I feel my previous hate for this song was a little much. Itās not THAT bad... I still think itās a bit boring though, but it picks up in the last minute. (7.6)
narp: A song from a soundtrack. It was never the biggest song in the world but sometimes it felt like it. Itās a slow tune, but not the boring kind of slow. The song sounds great. Itās almost nostalgic in a way, even though itās only a couple years old. Bradley Cooper sounds great with Lady Gaga here and they harmonize. It creates something magic. Again, it really feels like a showtune. (9)
Overall Score: 34.6

racking up another top 3 we have...2. Dylo (Mylo13 š & Daryl the Beryl )Overall Score: 105.9 | Detour Rank: #2 | Roadblock Rank: #3 | Intersection Rank: #2 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.8Detour Results:(Split Message)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Iām not sure Iāve ever heard this in full before but I like it! the production has an upbeat energy to it, while the lyrics are very dark, so I think you really nailed the theme better than anyone else here! (8.9)Samo: The production is pretty great here, particularly the horns that pop in occasionally. I understand that the lyrics are supposed to contrast the more upbeat production, but I donāt think they fit as well as the other Split Message songs. (8.5)Juan Carlos: This was interesting to say at least. The production was on point and I enjoyed how it was throughout the song. Also, the intro was haunting. (8)Web: Another inescapable song that has been covered and played so many times that it risks losing any meaning or emotion behind it however manages to escape that fate. While starting out haunting and sparse, the horns that blast out of nowhere in the second verse add to the eerie, careful build of the song and each repeat of the chorus adds in new elements to make it satisfying. Some 80s music can disconnect with me for feeling too dated but even though this holds all of the hallmarks of the decade it's still a solid pick (also really dig the drums at the end). Manages to balance sounding upbeat and unsettling very well. (9)Overall Score: 34.4Roadblock Results:(Sent by Daryl)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is just such a nice and genuinely pleasant song. it hits a very certain spot and I really just feel happy whenever I hear it. the lyrics are pretty great also, making this a wonderful little tune (9.9)Samo: Itās probably my favourite Beach Boys song, but it still doesnāt rise above āpretty goodā, though I do really like the melody of the verses, and thereās nothing about the song that stands out as a negative. (7.9)jamesflame: I actually only recently got really into this track. I love the happy feel and good vibes it exudes. Beach Boys have always been hit or miss for me but this is a definite hit. (9.5)lyhom: (8.1)Overall Score: 35.4Intersection Results:(Sent with The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a pretty great song! the flows are on point the chorus fits the song very well. the lyrics are also very strong, making this quite the enjoyable song (9.6)
Samo: The atmosphere the song creates is excellent, and Iāve always wanted to like this more than I do, but itās not a song I return to very often. (8)
jtd: Iāve always liked this song but I never realized how fantastic it is until now. A classic. (9.7)
Narp: One of the most iconic songs of the 90s in general, and a song you might think of when thinking about 90s rap. This is Coolioās only hit anyone remembers, so letās get into my thoughts about it! Thereās a reason people remember this song in 2020. Itās catchy and sounds great. Add in how massive it was and you have a song people remember 25 years later. Itās got many layers, the beat, the bass, and the little siren (?) playing throughout, and it just works together like it should. The song is almost theatrical. I feel like Iām in a movie when I listen to it. I donāt really know how to tie this review together so hereās the score. (8)
Overall Score: 35.3

holding steady in 3rd we have...3. The Lights (walt91 & Lukas)Overall Score: 103.5 | Detour Rank: #6 | Roadblock Rank: #1 | Intersection Rank: #3 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.6Detour Results:(Split Off)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a nearly perfect pop track! I love the beat and itās also incredibly catchy. even Akonās parts are great (9.8)Samo: Iām not the biggest fan of a lot of Gwenās solo work, but this is a massive exception. The production is fantastic, and Akon fits surprisingly well. (9.2)Juan Carlos: Well... leonagwen isn't judging in this round, but if you don't want to go with Camila Cabello, you could pick something from Gwen Stefani instead? ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ Either way, that was a good pick because it's one of the best well-known songs from Gwen's solo discography, although this doesn't mean that it's one of my favourites of course. Also, Akon's input is recognizable to be honest. (8.1)Web: I remember when this would play when I was riding the bus to school almost every day which maybe dates me, who knows. I've never been a massive Gwen Stefani fan since her vocals have never really meshed with me and this song isn't really something that challenged that. Where this loses me a bit is Akon despite sticking with you for the next hour can get kind of grating fast (yeeeeeehhhhoooooo), and Gwenās vocals were flat compared to some of the more animated performances I've heard from her. Fine background music (maybe if I was back on the middle school bus the nostalgia would boost this but Iād have to deal with more than a few questions) but nothing I'd jump to queue up again (5.4)Overall Score: 32.5Roadblock Results:(Sent by Lukas)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a truly gorgeous track. I think I prefer the electric version, as I think it has just enough going on it, while the acoustic version doesnāt quite have enough going on in it. the lyrics are incredibly and I love the instrumental. overall this is an all time favorite track for me (10)Samo: I understand what makes this a great song, but it isnāt quite clicking for me. It doesnāt feel like thereās much happening in the acoustic version, and the electric version still doesnāt really keep my interest. (7.7)jamesflame: Honestly, both versions of this song are great. I prefer the electric version more personally, but this song is just so lyrically brilliant and a really deep track, even if it became a meme. Another excellent pick. (9.1)lyhom: (9)Overall Score: 35.8Intersection Results:(Sent with The Canadian Ducks)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a pretty track. narrowly avoiding elimination we have...4. Sambal Wrap (Sambalada & wrip )Overall Score: 102.7 | Detour Rank: #5 | Roadblock Rank: #5 | Intersection Rank: #1 | Bonus From Last Leg: +1.3Detour Results:(Split Message)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Iāve yet to hear a Solange song that really connects with me. I think the production here is pretty alright, if a little un-cohesive. Solangeās vocals are nice enough though (7.9)Samo: This was the only song I hadnāt heard at all before now, but itās pretty nice! The production is solid overall, but Iām not a fan of the background vocals (?) in the intro that play through most of the song. However, the lyrics are excellent, probably my favourite of this set. (8.4)Juan Carlos: The production and Solange's vocals were really good here. I really liked how the production contrasts to the lyrics of the track, fitting correctly with the theme. (8.4)Web: The chaotic percussive beginning gives way to a steady synth layer and smooth vocals/harmonies in the first minute, which I'm going to take as representing constant tension in a relationship fading into the background as Solange is more resigned to the ultimate conclusion of moving on. It's a cool effect, especially when the bridge sucks out all of the background noise to hone in on her vocals as the song reaches its peak. I'm not sure if I just made all of that up to flesh out a song review or it was intentional on Solangeās part but I'm going to say intentional so my score has meaning lmao (8.3)Overall Score: 32.6Roadblock Results:(Sent by Samb)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a very pleasant track, if one that doesnāt stand out all that much. I like it fine enough, though I do think there were better choices for the theme (8.2)Samo: I do like this, and it stands out as a more obscure pick for this theme considering how iconic a lot of these choices are. That being said, the song itself isnāt exceptional, and it does feel like there were a lot of stronger choices for this round you couldāve gone with. (7.8)jamesflame: This is such a stacked set. Another great song by another great group. I really enjoyed the vocals on this one. (8.7)lyhom: (8)Overall Score: 32.7Intersection Results:(Sent with ;-;)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a jam! a jam with an entirely too long intro, but a jam nonetheless! (8.7)
Samo: Prince has made a lot of great songs, but this is almost his best. The song manages to keep its energy the whole way through without being tiring, and the guitar solo(s) are absolutely fantastic. Despite its length, I think the intro fits in really well, making the song near perfect. (9.9)
jtd: While this isnāt one of my favorites from Prince, itās still a great song. Very catchy and I really like the instrumental (side note: while I was listening to it my mom came into my room dancing, lmfao). (9.5)
Narp: I never really got into Prince, but I can still appreciate when he makes a good song. I donāt really think of this one when I think of quintessential 80s songs, but itās really got that sound. Itās bouncy and fun new wave, with some guitar riffs in between, and Prince vocals. Itās great. (8)
Overall Score: 36.1

barely escaping elimination we have...5. The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber (@matthewlam & tanooki)Overall Score: 101.8 | Detour Rank: #3 | Roadblock Rank: #4 | Intersection Rank: #2 | Bonus From Last Leg: +0.2
Detour Results:(Split Off)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is probably one of my favorite big hits out there right now. the horns really make the song, and the chorus is quite catchy as well! itās a very summery song so appropriate that itās blowing up rn (9)Samo: I enjoy this a lot, but the chorus is repetitive, which doesnāt help my opinion on the song after repeated listens. The lyrics arenāt exceptional, but I love most of the production. (8.3)Juan Carlos: I have been indifferent with Harry's solo career, but this changed when he began dropping the songs from Fine Line. I still haven't listened to his self-titled debut album yet, but I'm willing to listen to it some time. Regarding "Watermelon Sugar", it was a great choice, so good to see that a team submitted it. (8)Web: I remember when I first heard Sign of the Times I was pretty blown away by how much I enjoyed a Harry Styles song, and though that track remains my favorite his stuff since then has been generally pretty good with a few tracks that stand out above the rest. The horns that start to sneak into the pre-chorus and blast into the chorus are a nice addition and the bassline underneath compliments the beat nicely. The only criticism I have is the song drags a little bit and feels a little repetitive despite only being 3 minutes but this was a solid pick for this detour. (8.1)Overall Score: 33.4Roadblock Results:(Sent by Matt)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: not my favorite Beatles track but a strong one nonetheless. it has a nice vibe to it, and is a very solid listen. the vocals in particular are very nice! (8.5)Samo: The Beatles do have better song imo, but this is still nice. The horns are very welcome, and the lyrics are really interesting. The outro seems a little out of place, but it sounds good enough that Iām not lowering my score because of it. (7.6)jamesflame: The Beatles are another hit or miss band. Once again though, this one is a hit. Not quite on the same level as Wouldn't It Be Nice but I love the psychedelic aspects and I'm sure under the right circumstances, I could REALLY enjoy this one. (8.4)lyhom: (8.4)Overall Score: 32.9Intersection Results:(Sent with Dylo) Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a pretty great song! the flows are on point the chorus fits the song very well. the lyrics are also very strong, making this quite the enjoyable song (9.6)Samo: The atmosphere the song creates is excellent, and Iāve always wanted to like this more than I do, but itās not a song I return to very often. (8)jtd: Iāve always liked this song but I never realized how fantastic it is until now. A classic. (9.7)Narp: One of the most iconic songs of the 90s in general, and a song you might think of when thinking about 90s rap. (8)Overall Score: 35.3you two did survive, but only by 0.1 points. no bonus for next leg but you're still in the race!and unfortunately being eliminated is...6. ;-; (shruggie & DistrictTwelve)Overall Score: 101.7 | Detour Rank: #4 | Roadblock Rank: #6 | Intersection Rank: #1Detour Results:(Split Message)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: a country classic! I think the the lyrics are quite relatable, and it fits the theme pretty well. Dolly Parton is also a really good singer (9.2)Samo: Dolly has so many great songs, but this is one of her best, and nearly my favourite song here. It fits the theme excellently without having the lyrics sound out of place, which is helped by Dollyās great vocal performance. (9.6)Juan Carlos: I liked the song, but I certainly wasn't too interested to listen to it again. However, the lyrics fit with the theme, so probs to that. (7.7)Web: I'm not a massive country fan despite having a bunch of artists that I'll regularly circle back to, so this song faced a tougher hill to climb than the rest. Dolly has earned her place in history but when she reaches into her higher ranges the track starts to lose me, and the instrumental is a little more subdued than I think the song deserves. However I'm boosting my score a bit for this because I think itās one of best songs in terms of fitting the theme of its detour. (6.8)Overall Score: 33.3Roadblock Results:(Sent by D12)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I think this is a cool little instrumental, but I donāt find it quite complete enough to work just as an instrumental. though itās good, I think it really isnāt all that interesting to return back to (7.7)
Samo: I really want to like this more, but by being an instrumental track it needs to work harder to keep my interest, and by the halfway mark Iām ready to move on from the song. I quite like some of the production, but overall the song could be a lot better. (6.8)
jamesflame: This is the one I was most excited to listen to again. This song has been a favorite of mine for years now and I tend to forget it was a Billboard #1 hit. Such a great instrumental peace that really makes you feel like you're ascending to outer space itself. Also the intro noise was a toilet flushing played in reverse so creativity points. (10)

Narp: I never really got into Prince, but I can still appreciate when he makes a good song. I donāt really think of this one when I think of quintessential 80s songs, but itās really got that sound. Itās bouncy and fun new wave, with some guitar riffs in between, and Prince vocals. Itās great. (8)
Overall Score: 36.1
unfortunately, the bottom 2 were a mere 0.1 points apart, and you two were on the losing side of that 0.1 points, and you have been eliminated. thanks for playing!
