It's like magic! Also, I'm judging those who put Big Love in the bottom 30 or so. It should have been in everyone's top half at least! ftfy

The only other The Outfield song we're ranking is "Your Love", so I assume they'll have no problem going 3 for 3 in the top 25. 23

Pretty solid top 20! Swap out Def Leppard's Animal with Women, which I agree is my go-to song on Hysteria and it would be even better.

Bless up for putting "Still of the Night" higher than "Is This Love". I don't think it'll be higher than "Here I Go Again", but I would gladly be proven wrong.
I would have had a somewhat up and down top 20. Pretty much every song I really like made the top 20 (all of my incomplete top ten eleven made it), but so did "Midnight Blue". Oh well, take what you can get.

Agree, Still of the Night is a way better song and has held up much better over time than Is It Love, and to a lesser degree Here I Go Again. They are a fun concert.

40. Standing on Higher Ground - The Alan Parsons ProjectProg Rock with a BIG 80's sound. This is why I also loved Rush. 39. Runaway Trains - Tom Petty & the HeartbreakersPretty good Tom Petty & Heartbreakers song. This is a fair placement for it, but I still don't get why you all slept on "Jammin' Me" 38. True to You - Ric Ocasek Ric Ocasek in my top 10. Who didn't see that coming? anyway for those of you who don't have a keen ear this is basically a Cars song. The only member who didn't contribute was David Robinson. I have a feeling some of you will like "Something To Grab For" even more, but this one is a poptrain on fire. Ric new how to write melodic wonders blinfolded. This is another Ric Ocasek song that I decided to chart again in the 90's. Both times top 10 of course. 37. Smoking Gun - Robert Cray BandSounds like an R.E.M with a different singer. I didn't do much with this song on Alt, so it was destined to drop into my bottom 10 here. 36. Don't Need a Gun - Billy IdolI ended up charting "Mony Mony" higher but this was a great attempt at "White Wedding" part II. 35. Love Will Find a Way - YesI always forget about this one. A cool rediscovery, with that big 80's sound like "Owner Of A Lonely Heart". 34. Livin' on a Prayer - Bon JoviI feel a rank brewing inside. Not because of the song's placement, but because of that MV. I have never seen that upload ,and frankly I'm disgusted that some uploader would stoop so low just to get a laugh or views on youtube. Bon Jovi brought timeless music to fans all over the world. Europe, Japan, The U.S. Songs that will stand the test of time for ages to come. Anyway that upload is shit. Uploaders like Magic Mike should not exist. Its ok to say you hate a band or their music. Free speech and all that, but to straight out try to ridicule an artist is dead wrong, and I know an iconic band like Bon Jovi couldn't care less about Magic Mike and the horse he rides on, but a real fan finds it offensive. Magic Mike. hmmmm.... not invited to my party. that's for sure. End of Rant. BTW, What he doesn't realize is that the proof is in the audience reception in the music video. Everyone standing and singing along to a certified rock classic. That he can never take away from us. Here is the real thing with compliments from real Bon Jovi fans. In the end #34 is more than I ever expected on this RD so we did pretty great as a whole. BTW, some you guys are just here to F U C K with my top five aren't you? 33. Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon JoviThis one is a another timeless Rock classic. Again we took it top 35. More than I usually give this RD's credit for. Also at least this music video is one I could give a thumbs up to. 32. Ship of Fools - World PartyThis one was gonna drop hard on my list, but ti still falls into the range of songs I really like. 31. Isn't It Midnight - Fleetwood MacPULSE has a serious unhealthy hard -on for Fleetwood Mac. All three songs make the top 40. I really dug two of them and I ranked them pretty close to each other. This was a first time listen for me, but I really enjoyed the harder rock edge this song had. 30. My Baby - PretendersI didn't like this one at all. I struggled as it was with Pretenders music as the years went forward, but this didn't even sound like Pretenders to me. Call me back when we rank " Middle of The World". Also the first two albums and 'Learning To Crawl' were the only ones to blow me away. Everything after that just kinda fizzeled away. I think they are starting to sound better now. "I even charted "Holy Commotion". At least my bottom 10 is now empty. I really struggled with songs to tank this year. 29. Brilliant Disguise - Bruce Springsteen You will finally seem do justice to Bruce once we get into his "Glory Days". The hits off ' Born In The U.S.A' are my favorites from him. 28. Is This Love - WhitesnakeI guess there is no use keeping it a secret. Whitesnake is my crown band for this RD. This is the one I ranked lowest. I would say the Whitesnake love is real. Now lets all just take a minute to acknowledge the hotness of Tawny Kitaen. Not only is she an August lioness, but she is the celebrity closest to my B day. August 6th. Her's falls on the 5th. can you believe she is now 58? 27. Something So Strong - Crowded HouseDecent little song to come back to once in a while, This was never a favorite of mine. 26. Big Love - Fleetwood MacAnother so so song. Not bad. "ooh Ahhs" sounded misplaced. Leave that for a Prince song .Anyway, I just preferred 70's Mac way more. "Hold Me" is pretty awesome too. 25. Force Ten - RushOh yeah I forget to mention I have both Rush songs in my top 20. These two still had that over the top , bigger than life 80's sound to them. 24. Touch of Grey - Grateful DeadThis song is superior in the hokyness department, but still kinda sorta ,fun to watch. 23. Since You've Been Gone - The Outfield I like this one. They didn't chart too many, but I liked what I heard. You can't go wrong with a melodic pop rock like this. 22. The Final Countdown - EuropeSometimes I'm surprised to see you guys like Glam Metal songs more than me. Tho these guys were more like AOR, but let's face it if they wanna dress glam they are glam. I like this one. Obviously the synth riff is the star of the song, but we won't be ranking the Europe songs I would have put in my top 20. "Cherokee" and quite possible "Rock The Night". Anyway that upload was another one I couldn't thumbs up so here is the Glamatic monster hit in all its glory. 21. Paper in Fire - John Mellencamp This is me ranking a song higher on an Mainstream RD , because it fits the format better. This is also its original format. It cruised over to Alt because it was great, but this sounds way better among its own peers. I'm also still baffled why some of you slept on "Cherry Bomb"?

Let's start off tonight's extras with some Glamriffic songs; Never Say Goodbye - Bon JoviI doubt many of us besides me charted this one? I liked this one a lot back then, because of the Bon Jovi high on the charts. It's delivered with Jon Bon Jovi vocal passion, but It also plays it too safe with a sure fire Powerballad hook, and that's what also made it sound a bit lazy. It's perfect background music for "date night", but hasn't aged as well as a great bottle of wine should. Rock the Night - EuropeNow here is a Europe song that rocks my world. Love those Rock anthem fueled Metal jams the most. This one has its Glam Metal formula down to the note. Lady Red Light - Great WhiteThis one actually comes with its own Tracy Martinson fueled music video. She is also the model on the album cover sleeve. This song rocks. I like it a whole lot better than "Rock Me" and would have placed it higher too. Now while I love the video. I can't help thinking it looks more like motorcycle commercial. I mean with a title like "Lady Red Light" i expect a whole lot more steaminess, and a better storyline to go, but I can't complain with Tracy in the spotlight. The song is also great, and I do love the scenes with the band on stage. Too Hot to Stop - Benjamin OrrI don't remember this getting much airplay outside of night time Music Video shows, but what a great song. Its weird seeing Benjamin as a front man without his bass guitar ,but I like his moves. This song has a bit of Billy idol to it. Also its like a half a Cars song. You got Greg Hawks as always on synths, and there's David Robinson. I guess Ric lost the coin flip to Ben for David? Question would I have put this one in my top 20? of course I would. Fire - Bruce SpringsteenNow here is a Bruce Springsteen song I would gladly upgrade. That vocal performance in an Elvis Presley kinda way sounds sexy as F U C K. of Course "War" also rocks proper. Andy Taylor - Don't Let Me Die Young/ I Might DieBoth of these songs were very good. I knew "I Might Lie" from before, because it's a great tasty rock jam. My favorite is "Take It Easy" from '86. Not as glammy as these two, but even more upbeat and catchy. Also did you know Andy secretly wanted to be like Jon Bon Jovi. Now I do. Roadrunner - Joan Jett & the BlackheartsGood reliable post punk rock vibes from Joan Jett and co. Her music is always bass fueled giving her songs I vibe I can always get into. I can see why Green Day wants to bring this sound back. and one from tonight's EXTRASNotorious - LoverboyI remember digging this one at a high level, but it never blew me away. It's fast n' fierce but really kinda just goes around in circles in melody. The nanana's were pretty unecessary too. Still it is Loverboy, and I won't be tanking anything Loverboy related ever. BTW I think they debut on Rock YE charts much earlier. "Turn Me Loose", Working For The Weekend", "Hot Girls In Love". All monster hits for the band. I'm definitely going top 10 with "Lovin' Every Minute Of It". If that surprises anyone than you failed "Party Rock" 101. Five crown songNobody's Fool - Cinderellaah yes the rock star of the night. This is my Cinderella crown song. A perfect fit for the Metal ballad genre. It had the right ingredients for a 70's Metal melody like Aerosmith , Alice Cooper or even Kiss "I Still Love You" would have. Really great song, and I wish they stuck more to this sound as it felt that it really showcased the strength in Tom's vocal range. Also with a band name like Cinderella ,and with their stage look I felt like they should have kept this slower; haunting metal vibe to their music as opposed to the melodic one they eventually adopted. The music videos could have been takes on the real Grimm fairy tales fitting to the song's lyrics and atmosphere. The things I would have done if I had been their manger. Also had we gotten the chance to rank this classic I would have had to sacrifice Whitesnake's "Is This Love" for this one in my top 10. true story.

BTW I think they debut on Rock YE charts much earlier. "Turn Me Loose", Working For The Weekend", "Hot Girls In Love". All monster hits for the band. OK, I notice you keep saying things like this when I talk about debuts in our rankdowns. So let me clarify. When I say a band/artist debuts in a certain year, I mean when we are first seeing them as we move backwards in the retro charts. Yes, in chronological order, Loverboy is in the very first top 100 of the Billboard era, 1981, with "Turn Me Loose". However, since our rankdowns are moving in reverse-chronological order, their "debut" in our rankdowns is the latest year-end top 100 they appear in, which was 1985.

"Runaway Trains" was my favorite discovery here. I kinda figured it wouldn't do particularly well though so I'm just glad it was able to make the top 40. There are several nice surprises in this top 20 including "Midnight Blue", "Still of the Night", and "Stay the Night". I also cannot say that I expected "Animal" to make it this far even if it did do quite well in Lost Hits. It will interesting to see which of these remaining songs make the top 10. Hopefully a few rankdown exclusives are able to make it.

40. Standing on Higher Ground (94): They have several songs I LOVE and consider 80s classics. This was a discovery though, and a disappointing one. It sounded like a B-side George Michael track. I don't recognize the vocals at all, and the music was very mediocre compared to their classics, and even their last song that was heard back home --Let's Talk About Me. I did want to be lenient toward TAPP but this was a huge disappointment to me. Well, at least I finally cleared my bottom 20. 39. Runaway Trains (17): I had forgotten about this song! pretty good rediscovery. I liked the modern, synth-infused production, and the strong melody. 38. True to You (48): This was another good re-discovery. I could've ranked it a bit higher if it hadn't sound soooo much like Shake It Up part 2 37. Smoking Gun (59): Another song I ranked much higher here than in Modern Rock. I warmed up to it in the past month, and it fits much better in this list. 36. Don't Need a Gun (53): I like the synth rock production here and the chorus melody, but the verses were just there. Btw, back home Mony Mony was a BIG hit in 1985, so it was quite amusing to see it be a hit in the US only in '87... 35. Love Will Find a Way (8): Oh, no!! First top 10 loss alert! This was a minot hit back home, but I LOVED it so much since first listen, that it was a personal chart-topper. The orchestral intro was great, and then the melody, vocals (layered throughout the song and shining in the post-chorus) and rich and lush instrumentals matched what I liked and needed at that time. Still sounds pretty good to me, especially in this list. 34. Livin' on a Prayer (5): >:( Not surprised but still pissed lol. One of the pinnacles of commercial mainstream arena, anthem rock in the 80s. Great melody (including the slight key changes), vocals (background included), instrumentals. And the video was full 80s. A big hit back home and a multi-week personal chart topper. One of the biggest hits of the year and the decade. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDK9QqIzhwk33. Wanted Dead or Alive (42): I didn't care much for this back in '87 and barely made my top 15. I've grown to like it better with time, but still not in my top 10 BJ songs. 32. Ship of Fools (41): Similar position as in the MR for me, although I do like it more now than then. 31. Isn't It Midnight (14): YES! I wasn't sure how much this was gonna be liked by this crowd... but this has been a favorite ever since I bought the Tango In The Night cassette -which itself has been one of my most played cassettes. This wasn't played in our radio stations at all, but I made it enter my personal chart as what I thought was just an album track. It became their 4th personal chart-topper and 7th top 3 off TITN. I love the vocals (Christine's of course but also Stevie's and Lindsay's in the background), the high-energy rock instrumental especially that amazing guitar solo, and the melody. 30. My Baby (49): This received some airplay back home after DGMW, but not much. It barely made my personal top 15. It's nice, pleasant, inoffensive, but a bit plain for Pretenders. 29. Brilliant Disguise (31): I only discovered this song in the late 90s when I bought his Greatest Hits CD. Great melody, vocals, and subdued instrumental. 28. Is This Love (29): I just learned that this was a song they wanted to give to Tina Turner. That would've been interesting! I can see her rocking this out, too. Overall, a pretty good rock ballad. It also barely made it to my top 20 back i '87, but I've grown to appreciate Whitesnake much better with time. 27. Something So Strong (38): Another personal top 15. Very pleasant sound with enough dynamics to avoid being boring IMO. Plus, I've grown to really lie Crowded House after I bought their greatest hits CD at around 2000. 26. Big Love (4): WHAT???!!!! Third top loss! This was a BAD set of reveals to me. I remember being so mesmerized by that intro when I first heard it in '87. It would be part of a couple commercials, too. The lush instrumental has always been a strength of this song, but also Lindsay's soaring vocals and guitars (especially in the bridge and outro). The combination of synthpop and rock work very well here IMO. And the OH AH yeah sound a bit out of place, but I laugh when I imagine Stevie and Christine singing them 25. Force Ten (32): The first time I heard Rush was with Bravado, which I loved. In the late 90s I started to hear more about the band, so I decided to get a couple of CDs from them. This is when I discovered this song. Pretty good, especially in terms of instrumental and vocals. It could be stronger melodically, but a great song anyway. 24. Touch of Grey (39): Back in '87 I thought this was cringey corny, especially the organ-based instrumental. The video had good rotation back home, and one pop radio station gave it some airplay. It made my top 25. I've grown to like and appreciate the melody and more classic sound with time. 23. Since You've Been Gone (44): I have a soft spot for them, as I really like a few of their songs. This was a personal top 25, too, that I've grown to like more with time and appreciate its classic 80s rock-pop vibe. 22. The Final Countdown (12): This may be a bit overplayed, but it's a CLASSIC arena rock anthem. That intro is one of the most popular but also best ones in 80s rock. The vocals are great, too, as are the guitars and overall production. Glad that it made the top 25, but this one deserved an even higher spot. 21. Paper in Fire (20): Almost PPP!! I had ranked it at #19 in modern rock, and even though it sorta fit this list better, there were enough strong songs to keep it at almost the same position.
