50. Getcha Back (49): First listen. Although this had some nice harmonies in the background, the main melody was just far too simple, and the leading vocals in the verses were too weak. Clear bottom 5 to me. 49. State of the Heart (42): Another first listen (I think). I liked the overall classic 80s soft rock sound, but the chorus melody felt a bit lazy or too simple -- more like a prechorus. 48. Mornin' (47): I've heard this melody before, likely in a commercial. Pleasant sound, but not the type of music that excites me enough to push higher in my RD 47. Mr. Telephone Man (45): This made my personal top 10 back in 1985 but had little longevity. It's catchy though, and the chorus melody has stayed with me since the 80s despite not listening to it on the radio. 46. Eat It (46): P-P-P-P!!!! This is definitely FUN! I remember the video being in high rotation back home. This is a pretty good parody, but that's it. 45. Overjoyed (17): This barely made my personal chart in 1986, but I've grown to like it much more with time. Nice melody, lush production and musicality, great vocals, and nice lyrics. Not among Stevie's best, but strong enough to make my top 20. Disappointed that it's in the bottom 10. 44. Send Her My Love (43): I really thought I was gonna rank it much higher, as I like Journey and I remembered the melody of the chorus. But after hearing it again for this RD, I just felt the verses and the overall melody and production were a bit too boring and monotonous. 43. Stranger In My House (39): This was a surprise. I thought this was gonna be more boring, but it had good enough classic rock sound and melody that skipped my bottom 10. 42. Just Got Lucky (32): This was quite a fun rock pop discovery, with catchy melody and good instrumentals. 41. I Like It (37): I had a vague memory of this song, and I initially put it in my bottom 5 because of its more old-school sound, but the more I heard it the more I appreciated the strong melody and vocals. Surprised that my #40 is still in

-Modern Love is a CLASSIC. A big hit back home. (Yearend top 10 big.) Probably the Bowie song with the most recurrent airplay. I loved it, too. I played the 45 RPM many times :) and it would've been in my top 10 in this list. -Lady Love Me is a discovery. Sounds pleasant but nothing especial to me. I would've likely needed several listens to have a chance at skipping my bottom 10. -All Time High was a very minor hit back home, but I have strong memories of watching Octopussy with my dad and brother more than once (including in video rentals), so just for nostalgia I would've ranked it high. Plus, I do like the melody and vocals.

50. Getcha Back - The Beach BoysI decided to salvage it a little for it's 50's doo wap melody, but it kinda fell flat everywhere else. Also wasn't John Stamos the drummer of this band for a few years? Maybe I upgraded it for that alone. ;) 49. State of the Heart - Rick SpringfieldIdk what people have against Rick Springfield? He has more talent in his pinky than most have in their entire body. If anything he has picture perfect vocal tones. This isn't his ultra big hit. Reason I didn't put it in my top 10, but still 80's melodic fire with heartfelt emotion. 48. Mornin' - Al Jarreau Now this was one of the most cheesiest things I heard and saw this year. Nothing wrong with starting the day with some positive NRG but I always hated that "skip to my lou' over happy music vibe. 47. Mr. Telephone Man - New EditionThis was way more youthful than all that Bel Biv Devo stuff they released later in their careers. I love this smooth R&B jam. It had heart. 46. Eat It - "Weird Al" YankovicThis is the correct way to do cheesy. Just that fact that he finds ways to rhyme the lyrics in such a hilarious fashion is total genius. He never falls out of the song's theme and he does a amazing parody of the classic MJ song. You guys really need to reheat this one and give it another listen. 45. Overjoyed - Stevie WonderI love 'Superstitious" and his other 70's funk a jams, but I never found anything after that remotely interesting. This one further annoyed me to no end with those background drips. It sounded like he was playing the piano in a lake...and I still have sore feeling towards "That Girl" for knocking "Shake It Up" off the top 5. 44. Send Her My Love - Journey This was not Journey biggest hits. That's why I slot it next to Rick Springfield's "State Of The Heart", but it still had Steve Perry vocals and that pretty much floors most the songs on this list. At least for me it does. 43. Stranger in My House - Ronnie MilsapThis one doesn't do much for me. Music was alright for the Little River Band , but I did not absorb Ronnie's vocals too easy. 42. Just Got Lucky - Jo BoxersI believe 1983? I remember this one had that Brippop Motown vibe, Like some of Wham's earlier material. I always liked this jumpy music style with the brass and synths. 41. I Like It - DeBargeTruth is I really like Debarge. probably more than most. It just so happens to be that this is the song of their's I like the least. "Who's Holding Donna Now" would have been a better song for me to rank. EXTRAS:Modern Love - David BowieIt's no secret that this is my favorite Bowie song ever. Love, love, love, the piano and drumbeats melody. By the time the brass kicks in on my my feet. would have been in my top 3. No question about it. Lady Love Me (One More Time) - George BensonThis didn't sound so bad. I like it better than "Give Me The Night'. Not as instant as Ray Parker Jr's Raydio, but nicely done in the chorus. All Time High - Rita CoolidgeI don't recall this one, and I don't think it would have had me jumping around in circles. Not at six years old. Even now it still a bit too mature for what my heart pumps to.

Today's reveals begin with a song that was fortunate enough to escape the bottom 10 right at the very end. Somebody who has yet to lose a top 10 does so here.

I really liked Don’t Pay The Ferryman when it was released. But I don’t think it has aged all that well & consequentially I ranked it much lower than I thought I would

If we had ranked Second Nature, his third single from I Can Dream About You - went to #38 (I believe), it would have made my top 10. Hartman had a great unique voice. RIP Dan.

Heathens! Another quintessential 80's classic, and don't get me started on the video...

Here are a few songs that peaked on the Hot 100 during 1984:
All great discoveries. Here are a couple more.... Nik Kershaw took this to the Top 5 around the world. It would have been good had it cracked the Billboard Top 40. They were to achieve global dominance 3 years later and would be the world's biggest music ticket by the end of the decade. 1984 saw U2's first appearance in the Billboard Top 40 with this critically acclaimed track. The Furs enlisted producer Keith Forsey (who helmed Billy Idol's solo success and went on to produce hits for 80s soundtracks) for their fourth album. Their second of four Hot 100 entries peaked outside the Top 40. Ho-Jo took his first single into the UK Top 3. It made the Billboard Top 40, as did the follow-up "What Is Love" from his debut album.
