Swept Away (cheesy, but love it because of that), Romancing the Stone (not Electric Avenue awesome, but pretty good), I'm Free (my favorite Kenny tune), Wouldn't It Be Good (among my top 5 songs from the 80's), Pride (a tad overplayed, but a sign of the incredibleness coming w/ the Joshua Tree), Ghost in You (my favorite Furs song).

"Romancing The Stone," "I'm Free (Heaven Helps The Man)," "Wouldn't It Be Good," "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" and "The Ghost In You" are the bomb.

Never been big on "Pride", but "The Ghost in You" is an absolute jam

I lost my first two top 10's tonight. I better lose my last 3 bottom tank fillers before I lose any more top 10's. 40. The Lucky One - Laura BraniganI knew two Lara Branigan songs. "Gloria" and "Self Control". Great songs. Now I know this one. Not too bad. The intro threw me off,and felt out of place for the rest of the song which was basically "Gloria" part 2. The chorus was the only part I really liked. 39. Don't Pay the Ferryman - Chris de BurghThe only song I liked and charted from Chris. The only reason I knew of this song was through MTV ,and thanks to the original Clash Of The Titans I actually knew what the song was about. Charon the Ferryman has a great mythology behind it and I thought the song's lyrics and overall Nordic melody gave it justice. 38. Russians - StingI did like the Russian music melody in the song, but the song itself felt more like one of those Album intros than an actual hit single. 37. Torture - The JacksonsI for one am glad that this group isn't getting a free ride to top 10 this time. I never liked this song. I thought it sounded too clunky and too complicated to be a hit single. 36. It Must Be Love - Madnessbelieve it or not this band had other songs besides "Our House". This song was good. Loved the lyrics, but the weakest link was the chorus. Get rid of the play by numbers boring chorus and you have a great sounding song. The brass breakdown is my favorite part. Obviously. 35. We Are the Young - Dan HartmanThis song was good. My ranking of it is my actual chart peak as well. It kinda blows if you put it side by side with "I Can Dream About You", but on its own it kinda funks itself into Disco Territory. 34. I nvisible - Alison MoyetI didn't remember this one too much, but I got a definite British music vibe with its melody. felt a little like a Paul Young ballad or later Howard Jones. It's great but just couldn't fit int into my top 20. 33. We Close Our Eyes - Go WestThis reveal feels like you all just whacked me with that big ass wrench Peter Cox is dancing around with. What are you voters doing? This is one of my favorite 80's songs period. Not only from this list but all 80's combined. Besides Peter's vocals the synth inserts really gave this song a melodic slam. It's a shame it didn't get a bigger push in The States. If they would have waited just one more year for Wham to fizzle away this band would have been huge. The music video alone is a Masterpiece. If Actor Brian Cox wasn't of Scottish decent I'd swear he was Peter's dad. Anyway this RD is quickly becoming a lost opportunity. 32. It's a Miracle - Culture ClubAnother confusing reveal. This is the kind of cheesy happy sing a long songs I was loving at my age, but truthfully that love stayed with me all these years, because this one is still as fun then as it was back then. Now it's my turn to say. Some of you just need to smile a little more. ;) 31. Let's Stay Together - Tina TurnerLoved Tina Turner's rockers. Her ballads? Not so much. Extras:Swept Away - Diana RossSounded like a first time listen, but a very catchy one. I quickly opted for the extended Club Mix instead of this single edit. Sounded a lot like Expose Freestyle. Loved the guitar solo. It was written by Hall & Oates so I wonder if that was John on guitars. Romancing the Stone - Eddy GrantFrom the movie of the same name. The song was o.k. but I've always had a problem with those tropical vocal tones. Even today Reggae style vocalists do not entice me? I only liked "Electric Avenue" for the motorbike revving up sounds. I'm Free (Heaven Helps the Man) - Kenny LogginsNow this one was a jam. Felt like the whole Miami Vice concept was born out of this one song. Still feels perfect for a midnight drift.

Even better Extras: part of my existence is to review the songs that made listening to music in the 80's the best experience of my life. Also Two of these made my personal top 10 charts. Nick Kershaw - Wouldn't It Be GoodThis one I knew from MTV. Always loved that melody in the chorus, and Nick knew how to flow the melodies beautifully. Now go listen to "Dancing Girls" and even more importantly "The Riddle" there is a melody you will be humming to for the rest of your life. U2 - Pride (In The Name Of Love)One of my favorites from the band. Sounds like the best song that could have been on Joshua Tree next to "With Or Without You" of course. The Psychedelic Furs - Ghost In YouThe second time the Furs went top on on my charts was this New Wave sensation. It had just enough aesthetic synthpop melo for a John Hughes coming of age romantic Comedy, but a haunting melody also crept its way through Butler's vocals making it a perfect selection for a modern rock playlist. You can hear a lot of The 1975 in this song. Now do yourself a favor and go listen to the aesthetic wonder that is the song "Heaven" Howard Jones - New SongFirst time Howard went top 10 on my charts was this simple but catchy synthpop wonder. Of course Howard only got better with each passing song, but i really love the way those synths come alive. So much soul in the notes. Its like the take a life of their own. Now go listen to this masterpiece that through the years has become my favorite Howard Jones song ever.

These lyrics run through my mind more frequently than I'd like to admit. Near a tree by a river There's a hole in the ground Where an old man of Aran Goes around and around And his mind is a beacon In the veil of the night For a strange kind of fashion There's a wrong and a right But he'll never, never fight over you If you've never heard Kershaw's song Billy", it is quite clever. A tad dated in some references, but really a universal theme..

Stats to consider for #29:
Songs #27, #28 and #29 were all part of a three-way-tie in points. Losing the tiebreaker is an artist that's been in a Lost Hits rankdown before. Neither of this song's top 10 rankings is a top 5.

The song finishing in the middle of this tie just beat out "Don't Answer Me" with a highest best rank of #6. Another poster came very close to ranking this song in their top 10 but the majority of this song's rankings were in the 20s and 30s.

Another #1 ranking falls right before the top half. Prospects for this song looked promising early on as it was actually in the top 10 about halfway through until it got knocked down to its final position by some of the later entries. Somebody loses their first top 10 ranking here.

Grr, disappointed this couldn't even make the top half. I've loved this song for quite some time, and I only noticed it was on this rankdown's song list halfway through my listening session.

Stats to consider for #25:
Songs #25 and #24 are tied in points. Just making the top half by 9 points is the last remaining song without a top 10. 6 people did rank it top 20 though. We saw a couple of other songs from this artist in the 80s year-end rankdowns.

The most divisive reveal of the day is up next. Winning the tiebreaker over "The Belle of St. Mark" is an artist that is no stranger to these Lost Hits rankdowns. 3 top 10s fall here including a top 5. All 3 of this song's bottom 10s were bottom 2s including 2 #50s.

Nice tune. The video, on the other hand, is a disaster.
