But like...why is a female country artist held to a different standard for "slutty" dancing than a female pop artist? It makes literally no sense. Not to mention the fact that Kelsea is arguably one of the more pop-leaning female country artists so you're just splitting hairs and SERIOUSLY WOMEN CAN WEAR WHAT THEY WANT AND IT IS NOT UP TO YOU TO DEEM WHAT IS AND IS NOT OKAY. It not about what she wore it’s how she acted in the outfit she was wearing.

It not about what she wore it’s how she acted in the outfit she was wearing. No, the issue here is you taking issue with her creative expression - which, much like what she was wearing, is not up to you to decide what is and isn't okay. You don't like it, fine, but you 100% came in here and slut shamed her for it and I don't care if you like primarily females in country music, it's a super crappy thing to do. As one of the few actual females in this forum, I'm gonna call out the BS when I see it.

Meanwhile, Halsey is welcome to let her breasts hang out and gyrate across then stage as much as she wants to because at least she had pants on!

To finish my piece on a more nuanced note... This is of course not the first time that female sexuality has raised eyebrows among the country fanbase. And it won't be the last time. Of course we all know how hard people started clutching their pearls when Shania burst onto the scene with her enchanting smile and her cleavage and her tight leopard print suits and her exposed midriff and her "suggestive" dancing. And how about Reba's red dress? Think about it; the fact that she accidentally wore a dress that was more revealing than she intended literally came to be a definitive moment of her entire career!
The fact is, none of them were harming anything, and neither was Kelsea at the CMT awards. I definitely agree that there is a line where dancing becomes too suggestive for a family-friendly awards show. If they were twerking, humping the air, making inappropriate sexual gestures with their hands, etc. I could see that raising some eyebrows. But, like, they were nowhere close to that. It was literally the equivalent of a choreographed pop performance. To say that it is too much is to deny women their right to artistic self-expression, like carriekins said. And to say that it's okay for a pop performance but is too much for a country awards show is to hold our genre's women to an unfair double-standard.
At the end of the day, it's the artists' business and not ours. They will express themselves how they want to, and we can support them if we want to. But it is just kinda effed up for anyone to act like wearing a tight performance outfit is "behavior" that they should be punished for.
With that, I will depart. Happy Halloween everyone!!!

Don’t make shitty and sexist comments and then say “I give up, I’m not gonna spend anymore time on this” when you began the conversation in the first place. Get a grip and evolve. Dang, this is the first I'm hearing about anything in regards to the CMT Awards, I didn't think anyone gave a shit about Country's version of the VMA's lol. I guess I should have watched! Anyway, the CMA's are the most prestigious country award show, and I'm looking forward to watching this event (and wishing that the voters spread the wealth!)

Second I have a right to say something that I feel was right. Isn’t that what a board like this is for. I said I was done so this board can get back on topic which is the CMA awards that are happening in about 10 days. So that’s why I’m putting an end to Talking about My favorite known singer this yr which is Kelsea Ballerini and the CMT’s. So let’s talk about the CMA awards.

What’s this? A man policing how a woman who is hurting no one chooses to act? How 1960 of you.

What’s this? A man policing how a woman who is hurting no one chooses to act? How 1960 of you. And the kicker is it's not even "act" in the context of how she behaves in her day-to-day life. It's "act" in the context of following a scripted choreography routine that was probably somebody else's idea, choreographed by somebody else, etc. that she agreed to go along with. Literally the equivalent of acting in a play or something.

I kind of figured the CMA's would have Jimmie Allen do "Make Me Want To" or hell even "This Is Us". Kind of shocked they are going with "Best Shot".
Happy to see Carly Pearce and Ingrid Andress perform

YES, YES, YES. - I'm SO happy for Ingrid can't wait to hear that. And, yay to Carly & Lee.
Can someone explain to me why Jimmie is playing a song from years ago? lol Seems odd he's getting a slot....maybe to sing a verse/chorus and then present the award?

I'm really excited for almost all of these new performances, but I'm still a bit sad that Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini are missing. This must be the first time in over a decade that Carrie isn't performing, which is weird considering she's nominated for EOTY again this year.

Based on the "drama free" CMA statement, I guess I won't be tuning in. Country music was born out of singing about real life. Apparently CMA's views it instead as a form of escapism

Apparently CMA's views it instead as a form of escapism Just like in 2017 when they asked reporters to avoid asking any and all questions about guns, violence, or the Vegas shooting. CMA continues to embarrass itself by being apolitical, ignorant towards injustices, and unwilling to acknowledge multiple elephants in the room.

So they just really did another collective "shut up and sing" here, didn't they? What an awful look. I don't expect or really need anyone to say anything, but to be told not to talk about anything, that's infuriating.

And I was looking forward to seeing Reba that night too. Damn. Looks I'll be tuned out.
Music is escapism but music is also real life, and while on any other year I would get where they're coming from with the escapism part, you just can't go on like these things haven't been happening for practically the entirety of this year lol. Telling them to just not discuss it is a very nasty look that I can't give my Nielsen count to.

Based on how the CMAs ended on a sour note last year and now with a rather ho-hum list of performers I’m not feeling overly excited about this year’s show. The ACMs set the bar pretty high for country award shows during a pandemic and I’m just not sure I’m expecting the CMAs to meet that same benchmark (it also doesn’t help the two award shows fell so close together). I also feel like every other big award of the night is all but a given at this point. I’ll be tuning in if for no another reason that it’s tradition and also boredom.

Good. I’m glad they’ve posted this. On the show are the recent Hall Of Fame Inductees gonna get honored on the stage?

The buzz on this year's show is phenomenally low. Had it not been for being on Pulse, I likely would've forgotten it was even happening... in three days.

I'm on Pulse (and not even half a week ago was in this very thread) and I still forgot these were happening. Wouldn't be shocked at all if this year winds up having all-time low ratings.

So wait if Lee Brice can't be there, what the hell is Carly Pearce gonna perform? Hopefully "Next Girl" but man I feel bad that he won't be there and I feel especially bad for Carly Pearce.
Still hoping Carly Pearce has a big night for the award show.

Nevertheless, while I doubt I'll be watching at all night-of, some fun lil' predictions... Entertainer: Luke Combs Male: Luke Combs Female: Maren Morris Album: What You See is What You Get, Luke Combs Vocal Group: Old Dominion Vocal Duo: Dan + Shay Song: "Even Though I'm Leaving," Luke Combs Single: "Beer Never Broke My Heart," Luke Combs New Artist: Morgan Wallen Video: "Second One To Know," Chris Stapleton Musical Event: "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," Miranda Lambert & Co.
I think this will be a massively Luke Combs-heavy night (and extremely male-centric), even though the material-based awards should be split between Maren Morris and Miranda Lambert. He's being treated like the second coming of Garth Brooks, and since Garth took himself out of the CMA conversation this year, why wouldn't the voting body flock to their idea of the next best thing?

Ugh, that's terrible. Hopefully Lee Brice makes a speedy recovery. Same. I hope Lee gets better soon. I hope Carly gets to still preform. She is literally beyond pumped on social - maybe she sings IHYHN with Luke Combs since he wrote it?
