Don't see it last "that" long, ROCKSTAR is a decently strong #1 but the charts are really weak, and if we compare it the The Box's late January numbers,another streaming giant can overtake it.

Don't see it last "that" long, ROCKSTAR is a decently strong #1 but the charts are really weak, and if we compare it the The Box's late January numbers,another streaming giant can overtake it. Drakeβs lead single from his next album will overtake it. |

Rockstar is certainly the song of the summer, but it's also the first time in years I had to actively search for it to hear it. Might be partly due to the pandemic but it's not as inescapable as some previous Songs of the Summer.
As for Drake, eh. I keep holding out hope something decent is coming but I haven't liked anything he's released since "In My Feelings".

We hadn't had a new Drake song in 3 days so we were due for one.
As for Rockstar it feels big for sure, but it's no Old Town Road, In my feelings or Despacito that we have had for the last few years. They were all monsters with record breaking streaming numbers. While Rockstar is (without taking anything away from it) just your average #1. Dominate yes. But not in the way songs of the summer have been in the past.

Funniest thing is DJ Khaled doesn't even have production credit on Greece. So he is the lead artist just by screaming his ad libs. LMAO  He used to make his own beats back in the 90's and early 2000's, but he hasn't done that in many many years. Now, he does more curation than production, but with these two new singles, they're literally throwaways Drake had sitting around. He went to his house earlier in the year and took them. It's important to state that what he does isn't exactly easy. Anyone will tell you that it's very difficult to get the biggest artists in the industry to give you complete records. Feature verses from rappers can take up to months sometimes, but Khaled gets it done because he's very determined and he's actually friends with a lot of the artists he works with. He's worked with everyone from Nas, Jay Z, BeyoncΓ¨, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Big Sean, Future, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and so many more people. He's working on his 12th studio album now. To have 15-18 songs featuring the biggest names in music on every album isn't an easy thing to do, so I'll at least give him that. The CEO of Sony Music can do that too but doesnβt put his name on it. |

The drill-influenced songs off DLDT charted the lowest on Apple Music and Spotify. Same thing happened with the Behind Barz Freestyle. This is strictly for the UK folks. I don't see it having any sort of impact in the US because most of Drake's US fanbase don't care for his UK-influenced rap songs. |
