Does anybody know how many songs would have charted in the top 40 after MJ‘s death? I know he had 19 songs in the top 40 on Digital Sales chart top 10 ~ 6 songs 11-20 ~ 5 songs 21-30 ~ 3 songs (1 by Jackson 5) 31-40 ~ 5 songs (2 by Jackson 5) not sure how many songs, but I'm kinda sure these 6 songs in the top 10 (Thriller, Man In The Mirror, Billie Jean, The Way You Make Me Feel, Beat It, Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough) would've. and probably 2-3 songs more in the top 15 (Smooth Criminal, Black Or White, P.Y.T.)

I believe someone else did a calculation recently, but that's what I calculated. And I wanted to estimate the following week's Hot 100, since his death was mid-week, most songs didn't really drop in sales the second tracking week of his death. However I couldn't find much airplay figures for his singles that week, but from what I saw, most of his airplay declined pretty heavily the second week so I just subtracted 2/3 of airplay for every song that week. Rough airplay estimates for him, but couldn't be more than a few millions (aka few points) off for each song tbh. 1. I Gotta Feeling: 285~ points 2. Boom Boom Pow: 222 points 3. Best I Ever Had: 198~ points 4. Knock You Down: 182~ points 5. LoveGame: 180~ points 6. Fire Burning: 180~ points 7. Birthday Sex: 175~ points 8. Man in the Mirror: 167~ points9. I Know You Want Me: 165~ points 10. You Belong with Me: 165~ points 11. Billie Jean: 158~ points12. Thriller: 148~ points13. New Divide: 145~ points (**the actual #10 song on Hot 100 that week) 14. The Way You Make Me Feel: 130~ points 15. Don't Trust Me: 125~ points 16. Fallin' for You: 125~ points 17. Beat It: 123~ points

What would it take for a song to replace “The Twist” at number-one on the ‘Hot 100 All-Time’ chart, in terms of weeks at #1/in the top 10/in the top 50? etc.
• 14+ weeks #1 / 40-45+ weeks top 10 / 60+ weeks on the chart?
• Would the song have to follow “The Twist” in that goes #1 in two different chart runs/calendar years?
I’m really curious, and I wonder if that will happen sometime in the streaming era or even this lifetime?

fingers crossed dua can maybe sneak in the week following taylor's album bomb, i know it will be hard but i just want a top ten peak so desperately and we would've already had it by now without these album bombs and formula changes

Ofcourse higher positions give way more points so #1 is equivalent to positions 18 to 25 combined.
But in any case without spending 15-20 weeks at #1, around 30 weeks in top 3 it is unrealistic. The chart run i posted was for the lols.

AIWFCIY/Holiday classics seem to be the obvious contenders that'll challenge The Twist in the next decade if Billboard doesn't change rules for them.

Man, Apple Music really sucks with getting new music out there at the moment it’s available. Spotify kills them in that regard.

So glad the new chart rules are being implemented after this chart week. We won't have to worry about trash minaj stans trying to highjack yet another song to the top on sales alone. WAIT it’s after this chart week?? I thought it wasn’t until like October

WAIT it’s after this chart week?? I thought it wasn’t until like October The rule regarding The Hot 100 goes into effect on 7th of August (next Friday). So next chart week (starting tomorrow [chart date 08/15]) can be bundled. The rule regarding BB200 goes into effect on 9th of October (10 more weeks of bundling -including the week that starts tomorrow). Chart date 08/22/2020 will be the first "bundle free" Hot 100 & chart week 10/24/2020 will be the first "bundle free" Billboard 200 chart.

That doesn't count Youtube I assume? Because I can't imagine the 1 outstreaming cardigan if you include the mv. That chart only includes on-demand streams (Spotify, Apple Music, etc).

It feels like Savage Love is going to have a similar run to Roses where it peaks at #5 or #4 with a peak in points of 22,000-24,000 points.

Love to see Taylor battling for #1 spot! Hope she gets it! She's gotten it already and with a sizeable gap in points between her song and ROCKSTAR, I imagine. Their points were always close and she's done better on streaming for the week. To add to that, the numerous bundles and the alternate version single she's released will more than secure it for her. I'm so glad that bundles stop being counted for the first week after July 31st.
