Three people's 100's still remain? Wow. It would be wild if it were the same song... I keep waiting for Tonight She Comes to leave. I get it, Pulse loves the Cars. I love the Cars. That said, this song blows, their worst single of all time IMO. Thrilled to see Big Country make the Top 40. You forgot the most important aspect here. Me. Also bite your tongue.

70. Jacob's Ladder (87): I've never been a fan of this song to be honest. I find the verses underwhelming and the chorus melody weak, and the production uninteresting, so this was my clear bottom of their 3 songs this year. 69. Stages (53): The right song left last. It was the closest to their original fun highway rock sound, with nice guitar rock, and not over production. 67. Like No Other Night (48): This was a nice discovery. Classic 80s rock vibe with nice vocals, melody and instrumental, and my favorite of the two songs in this RD. 66. Amanda (92): This received some airplay in pop stations back home in '86, and barely made my top 20. I like several songs from them, but this has never been a favorite. The chorus is far too weak, and the verse is far too cheesy even for me. The best part to me is the instrumental bridge, but not enough to escape the bottom, especially in this rock rank down. 64. Hip to Be Square (47): Although I like Stuck With You more, this fit better this rock rank down. It was a minor hit back home, and made my personal top 5. I've always liked the high energy, strong rich instrumental, the melody in the chorus and in the last part of the song. 61. Dancin' in the Ruins (82): I made a slight mistake here, as I mistakenly changed order with a song in my 60s It had a nice classic rock vibe, a catchy chorus, although the instrumental sounded a bit cheap. 60. Split Decision (95): Finally, my lowest remaining song is gone! I like several SW songs, but this was an underwhelming discovery. I didn't find the melody strong or memorable, especially in the chorus, and the gospel-like choir didn't sound organic to me. 59. Stereotomy (90): I wanted to like it, as I love a handful of TAPP songs, but this was a huge disappointment. The melody was very underwhelming, borderline generic, and the synth-led instrumental sounded a bit too plastic at this point to me. 58. One Vision (84): This has always sounded like a big disappointment to me. I LOVE them, but the melody was super lazy and generic. The instrumental was its main saving grace, with some extra points for the vocal production in certain parts, but even then it all sounded disjointed. One of my least favorite songs from them this decade. 57. Rumbleseat (94): YES! Another bottom 10 leaving. He's done similar songs but significantly more interesting melodically, instrumentally and vocally speaking. The was just forgettable to me. 56. Dreamtime (37): This received some minor airplay in a couple of pop stations back home, and reached the top 5 of my personal chart. I still like the melody and tight production, with the stronger verses and catchier chorus, with a bit of a harder, punchier sound and much richer, complex instrumental than the typical H&O stuff. Wish it had stayed for a lil longer. This is a song I still listen to once in awhile. 54. The Other Side of Life (93): YES to clearing my bottom 10 before reaching the top half of the RD I thought this was far too AC -and LONG- with weak chorus melody, and a bit too boring. The total opposite to my opinion of their other song in this RD... 52. Dreams (33): I really like the explosive but melodic and shiny chorus, contrasted by the harder, slightly darker verses. The extra chorus was the ultimate cherry on top to make my top 1/3 in this RD. Should've made the top 50. 50. My Hometown (67): And this is the song I mistakenly switched spots with Dancin' In The Ruins. I like it, but it's a bit too AC for this RD. 49. Day By Day (28): This was a minor hit back home -alongside And We Danced- and brings back pretty good childhood memories to me. Plus, it has the classic 80s vibrant stadium rock sound that I really like. Simple, but catchy, with a nice melody and memorable keyboards :)

55. Go - AsiaNot bad for Asia ,but they can do so much better. The guitars here sounded a bit too Dokken for what this band usually sounded like, and the chorus was way too simple. I'm kinda surprised I'm one of the songs lowest rankers, but I believe it falls where it should among this list of songs. 54. The Other Side of Life - The Moody Blues"Your Wildest Dreams" blows this one away. Truthfully I didn't even remember it, so unless it had been some fast rocking high octane discovery it was doomed from the intro. Vocals saved it enough to make it out of my bottom 20, but there really wasn't much going on for me to enjoy. 53. Freedom Overspill - Steve WinwoodYou would think that this song and The Moody Blues one we just heard should fall in the same range, but the do not. I'm surprised You guys jerked Steve Winwood this bad with one of his best songs. 52. Dreams - Van HalenFirst big hit I've taken in nights, and with one of my favorite Van Hagar songs. I believe this night of reveals is gonna be all ass backwards. I'll be the first to stand up for the HOT 100 in the 80's ,because they got it right when it came to the type of rock the youngsters wanted to hear on the radio. I used to see the older kids speed around town with this one blaring from their speakers and it looked like they having the time of their lives. 51. Feel It Again - Honeymoon SuiteA great song. I thought there would be a few top 10's for this one, but I'll take the crown for it's highest ranker. This was their sole top 40 on Hot 100, and it didn't sound like a Loverboy song. Still not my favorite from the band. That would be "New Girl Now". 50. My Hometown - Bruce SpringsteenMan I';m tired of tanking Bruce Springsteen, but This was the one single from 'Born In The U.S.A.' That didn't do much for me. It is still my favorite Springsteen era by a long shot, and I will put all the rest of the singles in my top 50. maybe a few in my top 30 too. 49. Day by Day - The HootersGreat to see the correct Hooters song make the top 50. This was a perfect song for my age. 80's was all about the fun times in music, and this one delivers. 48. When the Heart Rules the Mind - GTRThis one was good. I didn't recall it too much, but it seems that it was a big hit on Hot 100 as well. I kinda found it to be in the realm realm as Triumph "Somebody's Out There". Just not as stellar in the vocal department. I did love that it kinda reminded me of "Heat Of The Moment" too. 47. Throwing It All Away - GenesisI forgot about this one. Easily one of my favorite Genesis travesties ever. I didn't even like it for pop. An Easy Listening chart maybe. You guys pick the weirdest songs to upgrade. 46. Van Halen - Why Can't This Be Love ...and at the same time you all pick the wrongest songs to tank. WTF Red . tell me it's Sammy Hagar's vocals you simply can't stomach, because this sounds like a certified Van Halen jam. Would have worked extra creamier with David Lee Roth. Also who ranks a Van Hagar song they kinda love at #84? Anyway this is without a doubt my favorite Van Hagar song ever. 45. Addicted to Love - Robert PalmerJeez....you try to help out the Modern Rock oriented crowd on PULSE with by Upgrading a great modern Rock song, and this is how I'm replayed. Is it something about the lyrics, because this is another instance when the Hot 100 got it right. This one and "Some Like It Hot" are his best and most oriented for the 80's times. 44. Wild Wild Life - Talking HeadsThis was fun for the Modern Rock chart, and it also sounded better on a list of songs I wasn't too familiar with to begin with. It's still a bit of that 80's cheesiness fun, but there are funner songs on this list. 43. I Still Believe (Great Design) - The CallThis song did nothing for me on the Modern Rock RD. So naturally it was destined to drop another 10 slots on this list. 42. Burning Heart - SurvivorColor me surprised at our highest ranker for this song, because it just doesn't sound a like song anyone would rank higher than me. especially since it consists of that epic anthem bass line that doesn't fair too well with this crowd. I'm glad you did tho. You must be a Rocky fan. ;) 41. Absolute Beginners - David BowieEverything was off about this song. easily one of the worst songs I've heard from David Bowie. Sounded like some artsy movie soundtrack music that was never intended to be a single. I would have preferred to rank that Jon Parr sounding "Underground" extra instead. ***As crazy as it sounds I actually took my first big hit to my top 10 when both Van Halen songs exited. I'm a bit surprised you all digging on NRG dance Rock Stevie Nicks, but I'm not complaining either. So I have 8 songs left in my top 10, but with multiple members here wishing them ill performance, I believe it's my turn to rag out on a couple songs I want to see GTFO too. It goes without saying... Bruce Hornsby, because this guy does not belong anywhere near a rock music format. Pete Townshend, David x2 ,and yes Amateur R.E.M all have to leave like yesterday.

Extras update.Little Miss Dangerous - Ted NugentLet's start off with everyone's favorite rocker Ted Nugent. Frankly I'm not as a big Ted Nugent fan as you might think. yes I'm still all Rock is Guitar and Guitar is Rock, but aside from his iconic 70's album rock material, and work with Damn Yankees I wouldn't go out of my way to get his records. You can hate on Ted all you want ,but you can't hate "Strangehold". What I didn't expect was Ted Nugent singing. Actually he doesn't sound all that bad. I just don't think his tones fit this style of rock groove. I recall him sounding more like Rob Halford in "Cat Scratch Fever". Anyway the song is cool. Has that stripper rock metal sound I love, but again his vocals tones sound weird for this style rock. Ride Across the River - Dire StraitsI didn't like this song at all. The vibe is so different from the three big Dire Straits hits. I'm surprised this didn't cruise over to Modern Rock with it's extotic Peter Gabriel vibes. Kinda like a far east melody. Not my thing at all. Change It - Stevie Ray VaughanDefinitely a Rock great vibe for the format. I just don't care for Stevie Ray's Vaughan's vocals too much. Passable if I was too listen to playlist consisting of a blues rock tones. Locked In - Judas PriestPriest like Kiss got some late night MTV play, but i think were too heavy for the pop crowds on the HOT 100 or Mainstrem Rock crowd for that matter who for some reason thought Bruce Hornsby and The Range should be given more rock airplay than Judas Priest. . This song was really good, but not too memorable. Best used on a heavy metal playlist you listen to just because you love the genre. Calling America - Electric Light OrchestraLove ELO but I didn't like this one all that much. It needed a much bigger production to sound like true Electric Light orchestra. This sounded more like Traveling Wilburys. Better yet like Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" with more electric lights. Don't Stand So Close to Me '86 - The PoliceThis song like Real Life "Send Me Angel '89" is just something I really didn't need. It made it sound a whole lot proggier, but if my mind serves me wasn't the original a Rock hit as well, so what was the point? Also add to the fact that the original is my favorite Police song so you are not going to impress much more by darkening it. This re imagined version adds a mystic atmosphere to the song, but it also slows it down and makes Sting's vocals drop a few notches. The original had a theme. Kinda dark tones in the verses like a tabboo subject taking its form, but than he realizes its just a fantasy. No foul no harm so why not rejoice in the upbeat chorus. This new version keeps it dark and creepy all the way through ,and I don't like to view the song as creepy, so I'll gladly take the upbeat reggae like bouncy original any day. Back Where You Started - Tina TurnerI didn't recall this one, but Tina certainly does have those rock vocal tones. A little vocal raspiness has always been one of the aspects of a great rock vocal Goddess. No wonder Bryan chose to duet with her on "It's Only Love".Under the Boardwalk - John Mellencamp this is alright. I have this single and have never played that b-side. This reminds me a little of Jackson Browne "Tender Is The Night" style. i guess if I wanted to listen to a cover of this song it would be this version. That Voice Again - Peter GabrielFirst time listen. It's much better than a couple of his '86 singles, but still a bit too dark for me. Has that vibe from that "Don't Stand So Close To Me '86" song I just heard. I'll Pass on this one. Hyperactive - Robert PalmerNow here we go. This was a top 20 hit on my personal charts. Got some airplay in Europe too. If this had become bigger than "Addicted To Love" it would have been my all time favorite. I love all the song lyrics having to do with women so this one is right up my alley. Extras part II:Underground - David BowieNow this is more 80's David Bowie. maybe a bit too Froot Lopps, but that's ok beacuse it's catchy in all its aspects, and it should make you wanna dance. The brass here is very European melody wise, and close to the style in "Blue Jean", and that is just fine by me. No way I give this one bottom 10. More like top 50. Is it me or are the Modern Rock songs I would upgrade on this list the ones that always get the EXTRAS treatment. This Love - Bad CompanyI like this song. I gave it exactly two weeks on my personal charts. I know cuz I always go back to my personal charts as we rank these years in rock. The song had a distinct Foreigner vibe , but also a bit like a Eddie Money pop ballad. hell it could have been Rick Springfield. All acts I love, but at the same time the last thing that comes to mind is Bad Company, and I''m glad they beefed up their sound for the following records. Shela - AerosmithThese Aerosmith songs got so little airplay that even I didn't know they existed. I'm kinda digging on the lyrical play with "Shela" being used as saying "she like". Anyway Steven sounds kinda off throughout the song except when he croons Shela. This song is certainly something I like with this first time listen, because I love Aerosmith. I would have loved to place this one in my top 50. Innocent Eyes - Graham Nash Sounds like the guy from Yes but I know its not him. This song is actually pretty good. It's funny how Kenny Loggins is in the background vocals tho this song sounds more like it belongs in his discography. Anyway, very melodic, and something I would have charted in the 80's. Love Is the Hero - Billy Squier who provided the music Starship? Jon Parr? I guess I said it before. I don't like this sound for Billy Squier. It's too clunky, and distracting from his vocals. Gimmi "Lonely Is The Night" instead. Night Moves - Marilyn MartinAll I remember from this chick is some disposable pop ballad with Phil Collins, but Wow this sounded great. Completely slipped my radar back then and it's a shame cuz it has that Kim Carnes/Samantha Fox female arena rock i loved in late 80's. Delirious - ZZ TopThis song sucked. Its a perfect example of them just speeding up their songs in the studio ,and adding some percussion layers and reverb sound effix or whatever they do? Take me back to their 70's raw Tube Snake Boogie days. i'm glad we didn't rank this, cuz I would hate to tank ZZ Top any lower that I already had to. Live in Peace - The FirmThere is some piano work here that kinda reminds me of Scorpions ballads, but that doesn't mean it blows me away nor anything that spectacular, but i do commend it for it's Heavy Metal ballad edge. Which I'm guessing is mainly credited to Jimmy Page. No Way to Treat a Lady - Bonnie RaittI can hear that Bryan Adams vibe all through the song. Gives her Country edge a nice Rock fusion. Another first time listen which is now my favorite Bonnie Raitt first time listen. Fortunate Son - Bob SegerBob Seger covering CCR isn't the way I thought my music night would end and yet here it is. I guess it s a great one for Bob Seger to cover. His vocals really fir the original's Southern rock vibes. You know this is better than I expected. Thumbs up. Why not.

I think we've established by now that I do not like Sammy Hagar. 99% of the Van Hagar songs would have worked better with DLR. "Right Now" is the only one I can think of that DLR wouldn't have significantly improved.

The funny thing is that I wasn't fully on board with this song when we ranked it in Lost Hits but I loved it this time around 38

It should come as no surprise that both of Pete's songs have left the rankdown before any of Peter's 34

I was thrilled Time Stand Still won in 1987, but this Rush song is not that song. Surprised (but not really, I guess) that Manhattan Project is still in this thing. Don't think I've ever even heard OF it before this rankdown. It's killing my score. That and that crappy Cars tune.

{I COULD GET USED TO THESE TEN SONG WORD WALLS}#40: I expected this to be a little higher, given that it's 80's Pat. #39: Looking back, yeah, I probably underranked this in the other RD. It would still be bottom 30 or so there, but it's not bottom twenty-worthy. #38: Not that I'm complaining too much about this one going out, but I still kind of think the wrong one went out first. #37: Wrong one out first. The other one's fine, but this was so much better than I was expecting from a Pete solo effort. #36: Glad it did somewhat significantly better here. Given some of the songs still in, though, I can't say I'm too happy to be losing another top 20. #35: Right one out first this time, but in this case, that was to be expected. #34: I think there's a really, REALLY good song here somewhere, but I don't think it quite gets there. #33: Well, I was not expecting that #1. I feel like this one is ever so slightly overrated, if only because Kenny absolutely has better songs than this. "I'm Free" is this song's superior in every way, and I will mildly fight over this. #32: Oh, this really shouldn't have topped "Wanted". You're making me regret not participating in 1987 a bit. #31: Again, right one out first, but that was to be expected.
