A CLASSIC ALREADY! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I‘m curious where we go from those kind of lyrics in the future, I mean will this sexual content increase or phase out over the course of the next 10-20 years?

Lil Kim did that 25 years ago, it's nothing new. On Hard Core she raps for instance: {Spoiler}Can't tell by the diamonds in my rings That's how many times I wanna cum, twenty-one And another one, and another one, and another one 24-karats, ***I'M RACIST*** That's when I'm fuckin' with the average ***I'M RACIST*** Work the shaft, brothers be battin' me, and oh Don'tcha like the way I roll And play with my bushy Tell me what's on your mind when your tongue's in the pussy

Super sexual lyrics, even in mainstream music, has dated back even as far the 70s with hard rock and the 80s with hair metal. Even coming from women, rappers in the 90s like Lil Kim, Salt N Pepa, Missy Elliott, and others were very explicit and upfront. Super safe, nonthreatening, uninteresting, white music will never phase out thanks to radio.

Where there’s been musical art, there’s been sex. Where there’s been sex, there’s been musical art. These were the lyrics to Lil’ Kim’s “How Many Licks” (2000) which is now deemed a classic. “Dan my N**** from Down South, Used to like me to spank him and c*m in his mouth. And Tony he was Italian, And he didn't give a f*ck That's what I liked about him. He ate my p*ssy from dark till the morning, Called his girl up and told her we was bonin'. Puerto Rican papi, used to be a Deacon, But now he be sucking me off on the weekend. And this black dude I called King Kong, He had a big as* dick and a hurricane tongue”. Lucille Bogan’s “Shake Em’ Dry” which was released in 1930; a Blues song goes as follows: “I got nipples on my titties; Big as the end of my thumb. I got somethin between my legs That'll make a dead-man come. Baby won't you shave 'em dry; Want you to grind me baby, Grind me until I cry. I f**ked all night And the night before, baby. And I feel like I wanna f**k some more; Oh, grind me honey. Shave me dry”. m.youtube.com/watch?v=gkPCmIxv-3kI’m not quite sure why people are acting brand new. 💀

It’s so refreshing seeing female rappers dominating a single year at number 1. Doja, Cardi, Nicki x2, & Meg x2 Exactly. I can already tell that Nicki's dominance on the charts is something that I'm going to be telling my kids about some day

I find it way more acceptable lyrically than Blurred Lines and that was on radio everywhere.

That’s not bad at all.

WAP is gonna be the most explicit #1 ever though right? Another 2020 achievement I guess When Silk’s “Freak Me” (A BONAFIDE CLASSIC) topped the Hot 100 in May 1993, it was controversial. A multitude of people had called in to various stations to complain of its ‘explicit’ hook and wanted it censored. “I wanna lick you up and down till’ you scream stop. I wanna play with your body Baby, make it real hot. I wanna do all the things you want me to do, Cause’ tonight Baby I wanna get freaky with you”. Casey Kasem had even spoken on it and said that it was the “raunchiest” song he had known to top the Pop charts at the time. It just goes to show how times have changed. 💀☠️💀

Coincidentally, it's like the ONLY song from 2002-2004 to reach #1 on Radio but miss #1 on Hot 100. Really bad luck/timing. Still kind of mind boggling a song like that also reached top 10 on Pop radio.

Do we count "Say So" as rap tho? If a white singer did the exact same track it wouldn't even be a discussion (see also: R&B smash "Blinding Lights").

No. It is as 'rap' as Kesha/Meghan Trainor's hits with rapping thrown in. For reference also, if a song usually can't even chart at Urban radio it's really not considered R&B or Hip-Hop the overwhelming majority of the time. Say So, Blinding Lights, Sunflower, etc are all songs they put on those genre charts but never even charted on Urban.

Say So is not a rap song, but it does have a rap verse and she is more typically a rapper than the likes of Post Malone. So that going number one, you can easily count as another female rapper going number one.

Where would we place Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl”?
A song that is far more Hip-Hop oriented than the likes of “Say So”, and peaked at #6 on Urban radio, and yet is still classified as a Pop/Dance song to this day?
Is it because Gwen Stefani was generally known as the White lead singer of a Ska band why it wasn’t classed as a ‘Rap/Hip-Hop’ song?
Stefani said in an interview with VIBE magazine in 2007 that she originally wanted to submit “Hollaback Girl” into the ‘Best Rap Solo Performance’ category for the 2006 GRAMMY’s, but her label refused and placed it in the ‘Best Female Pop Vocal Performance’ category instead so she’d have a better chance of winning and well... she still didn’t win. They placed “Rich Girl” in the ‘Best Rap/Sung’ category so she didn’t understand what the issue was and it really annoyed her.
Also...
Fergie’s “Glamorous”.
She is literally rapping on those verses.

Say So (solo) isn't rap (it's pop with some rap elements) but Doja Cat is a pop/rap artist (like Nicki during Pink Friday era). However the version that went #1 was more rap than pop.

Feel like Doja's label should be pushing Like That harder instead of re-releasing freak. I get it was blowing up on TikTok but since Say So faded faster than expected, might be time to push new hits than old ones. Say so faded because of the nicki remix. Idc if the song went to #1 or not but imo the song faded because of that reason

“Like That” is old news. That song had its moment a while ago. It reached #73 on Spotify with no promo, and now its dipping in and out of the 190s. It’s not even in the Top 200 right now.
“Freak” is just a promo single, anyway. I expect the *actual* single will drop with much more fanfare.

I think the label was trying to get one final push out of Say So and then were going to go promote Like That, which sucks because Say So could've pulled another 8 or 10 weeks in the top 10
